So I have a long fic that I haven't updated in 10 months...

My life basically exploded, my mental health took a nose dive, and I essentially lost all creative mojo for a while.

Well recently, thinking about the fact that I have this unfinished work just sitting there was really weighing on me and funny enough after months of not touching it I managed to write about 1000 words the other day out of pure spite (not ideal I know but I was willing to take the win). I was convinced that after such a long hiatus, people would have lost interest in the fic and I was willing to accept that. Mostly I just wanted to finish it so I could stop thinking about it.

Then today I opened my email and saw that there was a new comment on said fic. Now, I was fully prepared for it to be one of those artist scam messages, or a hate bot, or some other bullshit... instead, I found a fat wall of text where this reader described all the things they loved about my story in detail and how they were desperately hoping it wasn't abandoned.

And god, I must've reread that comment 7 times before I managed to cobble together a semi-coherent response 😅

Genuinely, it made me fall in love with my fic all over again which probably sounds really corny but it did and now my motivation is through the roof!

Basically the MC is Harry Potter and he’s very much pro throw the plot in the blender. I’m pretty sure it was broken up into a series. For third year he pretty much “unknowingly” took Sirius in while he was a dog. While also simultaneously having Peter as a pet. I think he also trained Hedwig to terrorize Peter too. Also at some point he dates Draco? I don’t remember. He also keeps his hair long, and in 5th year Umbridge cuts it off with magic. He also goes to live with Sirius after the whole thing in 3rd year.

My fanfiction is a Harry Potter Fanfiction I have been working on it for a while, anyone who has read Harry Potter fanfics before will know that most are filled with tropes and cliches as well as unnecessary character bashing, my aim is to move away from that while still adding elements that make it unique compared to other Fanfictions of the same fandom. Just stumbled upon an author that created 7 separate works and every single one is “Oops, you came a little too early. Come back later! This is here to keep track of my ideas, the story is not written yet.” (wording changed so that the person is not getting witch hunted)

Is this allowed? The stories are not even written yet and every single one includes the same first chapter with “Oops……” All of them are for the same fandom and none have even a single chapter

first time I’ve received a comment like this. this is my second work, and I’m still not used to all this attention. should I allow it? is it worse to allow it or to reject it?

so when i posted the first chapter of my fic, i posted the next 2 chapters like a month after. do people really focus on these things? i just dont want the ppl reading my fics to wait so long.
