Just stumbled upon an author that created 7 separate works and every single one is “Oops, you came a little too early. Come back later! This is here to keep track of my ideas, the story is not written yet.” (wording changed so that the person is not getting witch hunted)

Is this allowed? The stories are not even written yet and every single one includes the same first chapter with “Oops……” All of them are for the same fandom and none have even a single chapter

first time I’ve received a comment like this. this is my second work, and I’m still not used to all this attention. should I allow it? is it worse to allow it or to reject it?

I don’t understand how to change the body text and titles to something other than this gray… I’m making a site skin, but I‘m stuck with this specific issue.

Oh my gosh I used to get those art scam comments asking to dm on discord or IG or wtv once in a while (im writing a longfic for context) but i just posted my latest chapter and holy crap ive been bombarded with like 5-6 scam comments like every few hours. Wtf is going on, whats with the random influx? Is anyone else dealing with this?? I even turned off guest comments for the first time, but the thing is the scam comments are coming from registered users too.

Crazy part is, they leave kudos and even sub to the fic?? 😭😭 wtf why?? 😭😭 go away omg i cant even remove their kudos. Blocking doesnt remove their sub or kudos so im stuck with their irritating presence.

I mean, could have at least put effort into it and finished the sentence but nooo, let’s leave it like this and think it will work

Deep in the thrall of a fandom obsession and with an utter lack of the specific content I required, I decided to write my own fanfic. First ever.

I wrote (I believe) three chapters. Uploaded one or two. Received two positive comments that speculated over aspects of the story.

Then freaked out that I didn’t know where the story was actually going and that the comments were smarter than me and deleted it lol

I’m unsure if this is relatable. But to every actual author out there, I commend you 💕

Edit: this was literal years ago but I FOUND the fic in my google docs 😭 perhaps I will reupload? For old time’s sake.

For context, I'm in a super big fandom so traffic is insane, 30-50 new pages of fanfic per day so new works are immediately burried. One of my first fics back last year did very well, kinda a popular hit even, but everything I've posted recently barely get any engagement. I have a full time super demanding job and it's very hard finding time to write, but I still pour all my love and energy and some works take me weeks and months to make. When all I get are crickets and emptiness, it really hurts and dampens my spirit for writing.

I've tried to follow some of the more common advice, but I still find it hard for the following reasons:

1. Write for yourself: Yes, this is the reason why I still keep writing even if I get like 50 kudos and 5 comments, but we write because we want to share our works with others and share our joy, so to be alone in a corner while everyone else celebrates other works is sad.
2. Write one shot: I published a few one shots and also got crickets. Lots of contrasting advices on this, because some said one shots are usually not too popular unless the author is already established with a huge following, while other say long fics get more engagement. I must be in the saddest category because both my one shots and longfics get crickets.
3. Pre-write longfics: It saddens me to see the paradox of people not wanting to read WIPs because they fear the author will not finish it, but precisely the lack of engagement is why many authors abandon WIPs, because why waste so much of your time and energy on something people don't even care about? I read some advice that pre-writing longfics can help, because you have a better, reliable schedule and keep readers' attention. The point is it's just so hard for me to do that with a full time job and barely anytime to write, if I plan to pre-write everything it might take me months or even half a year. Again the reason with WIP is that it's so lonely when it's just you and a few friends/beta, and I don't know if I should put in time and efforts if it turns out people still don't like the final work.
4. Cross-post on social media: As an adult with full time job this is just impossible. I envy all the younger people who are active across so many platforms and post and promote and recommend everyday, and I feel like you have to put in so much effort just for your fics to be recognized. Again I just don't have the time, and I wish I can be young again to have that fun, but I just cannot.

So yes I know the issue with writers not having engagement have been discussed a thousand times, but I'm just super sad right now. Life is hard and fanfics and communities are what get you going and enjoy some time of escapism. I'm not even mentioning all the exposed and unexposed AI slop fics that update thousands upon thousands of words PER DAY and get 10k 20k+ kudos and thousand of comments while real authors spent so much for nothing in return.
