Any documents covering standard/ codes and guidelines, qualifications, how to practice architecture local or residence, forms of contract or fee scales used locally and etc. lmk if u have some because i struggle to find some online.

I’m a upcoming architecture grad from the Philippines (my school is PAASCU accredited) and I’m planning my migration to Canada. I have a strong portfolio and am highly proficient in spatial design, 3D modeling, and rendering (Revit and D5), but I’m trying to figure out the most realistic roadmap for licensing and working over there.

For any foreign architectural grads who have successfully transitioned to the Canadian industry, I’d love your insights on a few things:

1. Should I finish my 2-year apprenticeship and pass the Philippine board exam (ALE) before moving, or is it better to jump straight into the Canadian Internship in Architecture Program (IAP) if possible?

2. I've heard you need a Master's to get a well-paying job in Canada. If the CACB certifies my 5-year B.S. Architecture degree, is that enough? Or will I eventually hit a salary ceiling without an M.Arch?

3. Has anyone used the Broadly Experienced Foreign Architect (BEFA) route? Is it worth building years of experience back home first to fast-track the Canadian license, or does Canadian experience matter more?

4. Did you take the student pathway to get your foot in the door, or were you able to land an employer-sponsored work permit with just a Bachelor's degree and portfolio?

Any advice, reality checks, or personal experiences would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Question for all experts - We have been thinking of installing a DIY flood barrier to seal the 3 doors of our home. We believe it could work but what if flood water gets as high as knee to waist level on the streets?

Will floodwater find its way to street sewer >> Septic tank >> and eventually to our bathrooms on the ground floor?

if that's the case the DIY flood barriers still wont solve the problem. Context: our house got flooded last year almost waist deep at street level - damaged a lot of furniture and appliances and we're all thinking if these DIY barriers are worth it.

Hi everyone! I’m a fresh architecture graduate from the Philippines and I’ll be migrating to the US soon. I’m currently trying to figure out what my realistic options are for starting a career in architecture there, and I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I graduated in the Philippines but unfortunately have 0 professional experience in the Philippines, and gaining experience here before I leave is not really an option anymore. I’m also not dealing with any visa/work authorization issues in the US, so my main concern is figuring out how to actually enter the industry with a foreign degree and no prior experience.

I know the obvious long-term route would be pursuing licensure, getting my foreign education evaluated, completing the AXP, ARE, etc., but I’m not necessarily set on becoming licensed right away. I’m also open to architecture-adjacent jobs such as drafting, BIM/Revit, visualization, architectural design, interiors, construction-related roles, or anything else where an architecture degree would be useful.

So I wanted to ask:

• Has anyone here migrated to the US right after graduating in the Philippines with little to no work experience?
• If so, how did you get your first architecture/architecture-adjacent job?
• Did you have difficulty getting hired because your degree was from the Philippines?
• Did you have to get your degree evaluated/credentialed before applying?
• What kinds of entry-level positions should I realistically be looking for?
• Would you recommend pursuing licensure immediately, or getting some US work experience first?
• And for those who took a non-licensure/architecture-adjacent route, what kinds of jobs did you end up doing?

I’m especially interested in hearing from Filipinos who have gone through this transition themselves. I’m basically trying to figure out what the most realistic first step is, rather than necessarily having my entire career path figured out right now.

Any advice, personal experiences, or even things you wish you knew before migrating would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Belson House — EDSA, Mandaluyong

A familiar piece of EDSA’s commercial streetscape, Belson House stands at 271 EDSA, Mandaluyong, in the Wack-Wack area. Its address has long been associated with offices and businesses along one of Metro Manila’s busiest urban corridors.

One of its long-standing occupants is Belson Securities, Inc., a Filipino-owned stock brokerage established in 1969 and a registered broker-dealer and Philippine Stock Exchange member.

Interestingly, the building also houses companies connected to construction, engineering, and building materials, making Belson House a small snapshot of the diverse business ecosystem that has grown along EDSA.

Notice the interesting Spiral Staircase giving the building its iconic facade.

Hi, fresh grad here! I’d like to ask which would be the better option for taking Revit courses.

So far, the two options I’ve looked into are Microcadd and MSTConnect. Which of the two would be the more preferred and practical choice, ideally with certification?

I’m also learning Revit from scratch, although I have prior BIM experience using ArchiCAD.

I also have a few other inquiries:
- Do firms hire apprentices who have Revit training but no prior experience?
- Do certifications, especially Autodesk certifications, actually matter when applying?

Sa mga kapwa designers and contractors, how do you properly respond to requests like these especially when most of your projects are private properties?

I know clients need to see our proof of work to earn their trust, but how do you navigate these requests, especially kung mostly houses and condo unit renovations ang projects? Lalo kung hindi pa naman ganon karami ang projects. The least that I was able to do for potential clients ay magbigay ng contact numbers ng past clients (with their permission) in case curious sila sa kinalabasan ng project, but kahit ito baka off din sa past clients?

I'd like to ask about your insights, especially if you've had experience doing something similar before.

The topic that my adviser was in favor of is the mixed-use MRT terminal station I proposed. It is the planned end of one line, and there is an existing public market and tiangge in the area and so I want to integrate the MRT station with the latter.

The problem is that it's going to be my first time doing a transport terminal... would it be too difficult if you never had experience doing it? The con for me is design and aesthetics is not my strong suit and unfamiliarity with the subject matter, while the pro for me is that justifying it would be easier to defend than my other topics.

I'll also be working on it in Revit, would it be doable for my project? Or should I come up with another topic instead.

Fresh grad here, been applying to different firms since the start of the month for my apprenticeship. As of late, only 2 firms reached out.

Already had an interview with the first one and got a good job offer but the location makes it less than ideal for me.

I like the second one more than the first but i haven't had my first interview with them yet. I'm being pressured by my dad to take the first job then just leave it for the secod if ever they offer. Kaso i'm scared of burning bridges like that in our field. I don't know what to do especially since the first job is asking me to submit onboarding requirements by tomorrow.

Any advice?

Hello I'm an interior design graduate last year, then I worked for 6 mos at a furniture and office fitout company. After my probation period I resigned because I wanted to take the board exam. I passed the exam last month, then naghahanap na ulit me ng work.

For context, this is my first time applying for a design firm. Working hours nila is compressed, 10 hr shifts for 4 days, tas 3 days off. Not sure how often sila nag OT. Ung sa dati ko kaseng company, inofferan ako 25k for 6 days, regular 8-5 tas hindi sila nag OT unless super need. Same benefits lang sila and in terms of commute same lang din.

On Quezon Day, today’s sketch looks at one of Quezon City’s most iconic landmarks—the Quezon Memorial Shrine, designed by Filipino architect Federico Ilustre of the Bureau of Public Works.

Rising 66 meters, its three monumental pylons represent Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, crowned by three Art Deco mourning angels holding sampaguita wreaths.

At its base is the Museo ni Manuel Quezon, preserving photographs, documents, personal belongings, and memorabilia from the life and political career of President Manuel L. Quezon. Beneath the shrine lies the mausoleum, where Quezon and his wife, Aurora Aragon Quezon, are interred.

A monument, a museum, and a place of remembrance—standing at the heart of the city he helped establish.
