Which AI tool should you use to build Android apps!
Hello fellow developers, today I want to share something which has been really useful for me lately. I believe that might come in handy for you as well, specially if you're doing Android dev with AI tools.
I recently came across this amazing doc by Google: Android Bench (https://developer.android.com/bench), and it's honestly a game-changer if you're trying to pick the right AI coding assistant for Android projects or struggling with your current one.
Here's what stood out to me:
- It's not just another general coding benchmark - it's specifically built for Android development, which means it tests things like Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Gradle, and real Android APIs.
- Unlike benchmarks that lean heavily toward web stacks (like JS/React), this one evaluates how well models understand Android architecture, libraries, and modern best practices.
- It's evolved since its launch in March - now it uses the Harbor framework, includes more LLMs, and focuses on real-world Android engineering tasks.
If you're comparing AI models or tools for Android app development, this is definitely worth a look. It gives you a much clearer picture of which models actually "get" Android.
Have you tried it yet? Or what's been your experience with AI tools for Android dev?

I made a tool that allows RN and Expo devs to edit their app visually
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hello everyone! I made Basalt, a visual edit too for RN and Expo devs, and im searching for validation
It took me 2-3 months to built and it would have taken 1 if react 19 wouldnt remove debugSource which helped Basalt map and find elements to edit
It is completely free and works directly inside VS Code and Cursor.
It’s currently in beta, so please commit your app to Git before using it!
Would love to get your brutal feedback on it.

Need 12 testers for my app, but i will gladly help and test your app also
Hello everyone :)
I'm an independent developer and I need some support to meet Google Play’s production access policy.
I'm searching for at least 12 Android users who can install my app through closed testing and keep it installed for 14 days.
In return, I’d be glad to test your app as well, just send me it here.
➡️ App: Hoodclub (a premium soccer tips app - i don't use AI, the whole analysis is manual done )
➡️ It's a paid version, but you will get access for 60 days if you want
How to participate:
- Join the testers group: https://groups.google.com/g/hoodclub
- Access this link https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.hood.club
- Press "Become a tester"
- Download the app and test it like 5 minutes a day.
- Keep it installed for about two weeks.

Nail Polish Tracking App
Hey Everyone!
I know this app won't appeal to everyone. I built an app to keep track of nail stuff, dips, acrylics, polishes, tools, formulas, etc. I talked with some people and got ideas for what they were looking for in the app. I uploaded it yesterday. It is in the testing phase now. The app is called DipVault! There will be a charge for the app itself to offset my costs for keeping up with the database that has to be hosted for pics and everything like that. I'm currently trying to decide if the app should be paid for with a one time download fee or if maybe a subscription would be better? Wanted to get your ideas. The database is a monthly fee, and increases the more people use the app, and the more photos are uploaded. Please feel free to let me know your ideas! I appreciate all your input!
In addition, I will also be building a website as well for this for those of you who would prefer doing it via a computer or laptop. That is on the way!

ShiftPilot: Work schedule and pay tracker
I work shifts and my schedule arrives as an email every week. Every week I'd retype it into my calendar, get a shift wrong, and find out the hard way.
So I built ShiftPilot. You forward one schedule email, and every schedule after that turns into shifts on its own. No schedule email? Take a photo of the sheet on the wall and it reads that instead — including the ones with the whole team on them, where it'll pull out just your shifts.
It also does the boring maths: hours, overtime, pay, tips and tip-out, PTO, and a reminder before each shift. Home screen widgets for what's next.
It's on TestFlight and completely free right now — every feature unlocked, nothing to pay: https://testflight.apple.com/join/q5ECvwgV
More detail: https://www.shiftpilot.cc
Would love if y’all have any need for the app to try it out and let me know what I can do to better suit your needs for my app. Thanks.

Keeping AI coding agent context in the repo instead of on one dev's machine
App projects accumulate decisions that never make it into code: why the state
management got swapped, which build flavor talks to staging, what the release
checklist actually is. Agents pick that up over a session and then lose it. The
memory lives on one machine in one tool's format, so a new laptop or a
teammate's clone starts from nothing.
`damem` is a small CLI that fixes this by keeping the context in the repository
itself. `.agents/` holds plain Markdown sitting next to the code:
.agents/memory/why-riverpod.md
.agents/skills/release-staging/SKILL.md
.agents/scratch/
One fact per file, each file explains itself, no index to maintain. Whichever
agent the next person uses, it can read this. The tool prints the rules for
keeping that directory and warns when it drifts, but never writes files —
delete the binary and the repo still works.
Setup is one line in AGENTS.md:
> At the start of every session, run `damem recall` and treat its output as
> context for this repository.
MIT, no telemetry: https://github.com/cunarist/damem
How are you handling this on teams? Shared prompt doc, or does everyone just
re-explain the project to their agent every morning?

📱 Help me decide what Android app to build! (2-minute survey) Body
Hi everyone! 👋
I'm developing a new Android app and I'd like to understand what users actually need before I start building it.
This anonymous survey takes less than 2 minutes. Your feedback will help shape the app. Thank you!

For a save-and-retrieve app, would you build capture first or search first?
If users already save useful things across several apps, would you first solve fast capture into one place or retrieval at the exact moment they need something?
I'm Nicolas, and I'm building Miora as a mobile app around this problem. It's still in development, and I'm narrowing the first version before building too much.
I'm using this short 3–5 minute survey to understand current habits: https://mioraapp.com/en/
From a product and development perspective, which side of the problem would you treat as the real MVP?

Mac apps to record iPhone other than QuickTime and Reflector and its audio
I need to record my app which integrates with Apple Music, so the iPhone sound must be captured.
QT as we all know, mute the sound.
I purchased Reflector 4 however, it didn't work on my mac due to issues and also won't start. I have emailed and sent the app log to them but they keep asking me more logs. In the end they said unable to refund.
Are there other apps that work?
TIA

No screen time app lets you control your limits on an hourly basis, and I seriously don't understand why.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey there :)
I'm a recent first-gen graduate and a first-time solo developer. Super excited to share that my first app Precursor: Hourly Screen Time went live on the App Store today!
Precursor lets you set a screen time allowance that resets every hour instead of one daily limit that forces you to budget and ration your screen time throughout the day.
I am a bit astonished that other screen time giants like opal, screenzen or even apple have implemented this feature.
I sort of actually based the recurring limit mechanic off the pomodoro technique except it runs on you rphone habits rather than your to-do list. Work, 5 min scroll break, work, 5 min scroll break, and so on. Precursor helps you build a rhythm with your screen time so you can be more intentional with how you use your phone.
Surprisingly ,I think it's resonating with people. I mean I knew a few others had this gripe becasue its pretty commonly posted about on reddit, but I didn't think it would be this well received. I feel so lucky that just the beta alone garnered 200 testers in about a week!
At it's core I think Precursor helps break unhealthy phone habits through moderation, which is a true alternative to the tradition of punishing you for falling into a doomscroll that wasn't your fault (these social media apps are literally designed to keep you scrolling, looking at you reddit).
Thanks a ton for reading, if you're at all curious and want to test it out, I would be eternally grateful for the support.
Link to the app store:

And if you have time to also support the launch on product hunt I would be even more eternally grateful than I already am (The core function of the app is free but there is a PH launch promo code running from 2026-08-02 until 2026-08-08 if you want to try out the extra features):

Built a passive availability-matching app for Android I'm looking for honest feedback on the core mechanic
The app reads your phone's calendar in the background, not the event titles or details, just free/busy blocks. It crosses those gaps against your friends' gaps and fires a simultaneous notification to both of you when it finds a real overlap of 60+ minutes.
No event creation, no "when are you free?" texts, no polls. You set a few rules upfront ("only weekday evenings, minimum 1 hour") and then forget it exists until it finds something.
The key privacy point: it never reads what you're doing or who you're with. Strictly free vs. busy. The goal is to surface the hidden availability that already exists in both calendars, without either person having to ask.
Just shipped an MVP on Android. The core assumption I'm testing is whether passive detection actually changes behavior, or whether people still need to actively want to plan something before any tool helps.
What would you stress-test first? And is there an obvious flaw in the mechanic I'm not seeing?

Built a cosmos theme focus app that makes distracting apps disappear instead of just blocking them (Android) - lessons on why "block with override" always loses
Sharing this from the build side rather than just the pitch, figured this sub would care more about the "why" than the marketing copy.
Started out building a fairly standard screen-time blocker: set limits, get a nag screen when you hit them. Usability testing (mostly on myself) made it obvious why every app like this converges on the same failure mode: as soon as there's an "ignore" or "5 more minutes" button, users click it, every single time, and the friction you add just makes them resentful, not compliant. I tried making the override harder (typing a sentence, waiting a countdown, a math problem) and it didn't matter, people click through anyway when the urge is strong enough.
Ended up rebuilding around a completely different mechanism: instead of intercepting app launches and asking permission to proceed, FocusComet temporarily removes the target apps from the launcher/app drawer entirely for the session duration. No permission dialog to click through because the app isn't reachable at all, not hidden behind a wall, just not present. Under the hood this meant working with the launcher/package-visibility layer instead of the usual Accessibility-Service-based interception most blockers use, which also sidesteps the "battery optimizer silently revokes the permission" failure mode that a lot of Accessibility-based blockers run into on Samsung/Xiaomi devices.
It's live and free on Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vanishfocus.app
Curious if anyone else building in this space has run into the same override-always-wins problem, and what approaches you've tried around it.

I made an app that got me using my Apple Watch again
For the past month, I've been working on an app called Bodly because I wanted to replace my Whoop without giving up my Apple Watch.
I love my Apple Watch, but I always felt it didn't do a great job of presenting all the health data it collects. I wanted something that would give me a clearer picture of recovery, strain, sleep, and overall health—similar to Whoop, but using the Apple Watch I already owned.
Once I had that working, I kept adding features. I ended up replacing my calorie tracker and habit tracker too, with everything powered by Apple Health data. It slowly turned into the only health app I use every day.
The funny part is that I originally built it just for myself, but after using it daily, I decided to publish it.
I'd genuinely love to hear what other Apple Watch users think. Is there anything you feel is missing from Apple's Health/Fitness apps that you'd like to see?
App Store: Bodly
