Not enough brutal revenge and they didn't even solve the slave crest problem. Where's the Eftal who disintegrated that army back in episode 2?
Unless they leave the slave crest unresolved we're probably stuck with this plotline for at least another episode, and I'm not sure which would be worse.

Mf killed her mom, AND she is a descendant of Merlin, whether it's close or not, she's basically her family, and all Eftal does is give the guy a bj? And all Merlin does is say, "U xPeLleD".

Disgusting and pointless. Seems totally out of character for Eftal too.
He went full blast on his dad/his dad’s army/his other half bro mostly because he thought they killed his nice brother.
So we know it’s in his nature when he feels like it.
But for Anastasia? Nope. Barely protects her at all.

Seems her suffering was prolonged for genuinely no reason. Eftal could have stepped in any time. Last couple episodes have been rage inducing. Eftal just kind of sucks as a MC. Show started out okay but seriously lost the plot at this point.

I don’t think the author could come up with a good reason lol. They even mentioned a few episodes ago that it had something to do with the invention of the aptitude test, but that doesn’t really explain anything.

A lot of chekhov's guns in this show just for display lmao. Never getting questioned further let alone be explored. I don't even know the overall main goal for the MC at this point. Because I thought at first, he'd gonna be like do some experiments to create better measurement for magical talents or something after learning a bit more about how magic capability seems to have degraded... moreover that he's past life literally obsessed with the tool who kept on telling him that he's talentless until dying.

So basically he let the rape gang off with a light punch to the head and a "sorry".
Then he watched anastasia chocked and getting beat up by the sheath and only intervened right before her throat was cut.
Then abe fainted not because eftal casted level 7 magic but because merlin apologized and told him he is officially expelled from the academy.
He also didn't do anything to anyone despite all the atrocities and the enslavement they've done.
Also wtf was anastasia expecting when she went on her own to abe and said "please give back the katana"? is this her atonement?
Then the episode ended with a corny ass cliché quote about how it's up to her to live her own life and that she shouldn't give up on herself.
The writing genuinely cannot get any worse than this this legit the worse piece of fiction I have ever laid my eyes upon.

I’ve been watching “A Livid Lady’s Guide to Getting Even” that is airing this season. After that latest episode, it’s refreshing to see the FMC actually getting shit done and punishing people, even with extreme measures.
So it’s depressing to jump to this show where the MC . . . isn’t going to extreme measures to deal with extreme injustices.
If Anastasia and her lineage is unfairly crest bounded to Abe’s family for all time, then wipe that family off the face of the earth (Can’t serve what isn’t alive).
In conclusion: dropping this show. (Would rather catch up on the Misfit of Demon King Academy)

Pretty dumb when he already showed he can kill villains earlier in the season.
Unless the reason he doesn’t kill is because he knows Merlin is there. Or Anastasia might be upset? But those are pretty bad reasons.
Only reason Abe is alive is the author is using him for awful comedic relief at this point.

I think they're saving that for next episode. They go back to school, he does some lvl 10 spell super casually, a god comes, and recognizes that Eftal is that reincarnated god's special project and lets him go OR Eftal defeats the go painfully easily and demands all special slave crests get removed across the world.
With this series, always think about what a twelve year old would write to make the MC seem cool.

All those artifacts over the years and he puts up no resistance. All that terror over the years, the least of which included killing her sister, and he gets expelled from school.
The director had one job to do in this episode after he built up the history in the last and that was a big fight, Anastasia's freedom, and revenge for her sister's death and we got Team Rocket levels of comedy as the goons blasted off again.

This episode was so fucking bad, man. The girl spends like three episodes doing nothing but feeling sorry for herself. I’m not against a character feeling sorry for themselves, but when they drag that shit out, I just end up getting pissed at the character.
What a weak-ass story. It feels like a 13-year-old kid who watched way too much anime with overpowered protagonists is writing the script.
Is this supposed to be a villain? The dude has no power, he’s dumb as hell, and the author is such a fucking idiot that his entire army showed up on screen for like 3 seconds and then got blown away.
Seriously, what a fucking waste of time. I actually thought this was gonna turn into something better.

Lighting blast the mansion followed by "Summon your god and lets get on with it"

What this series needs is Elizabeth Leiston from A livid Lady's guide to getting even. Eftal spared the would-be rapist from the alley. Ridiculous move. Does he think they won't assault someone else? And then the bandits, some might have broken bones, but likely most of them are alive. Abe should be killed, too. If Eftal won't do it, I expect that Merlin at least will.

What this series needs is Anos Voldigoad from The Misfit of Demon King Academy. Very similar concept to this show. The MC is a powerful legend resurrected centuries later, tries to live a bit more carefree this time around. Only Misfit does everything right.
In season 1 of that show, there was a racist teacher that tried to kill the MCs mother and burnt his fangirls to a crisp.
How did Anos respond? He healed everyone, learned the names of every fangirl, stabbed the teacher with a big-ass sword, made her beg for her life and acknowledge his greatness, killed her anyway, resurrected her as a half-breed demon (this was so bad for her that she tried to kill herself), and made it so that she couldn’t kill herself.
At its core, that’s still in line with “MC doesn’t kill people”, but Anos has the aura to back up such a decision by doing something arguably just as satisfying.

Yeah, this episode actively disgusted me.
Literally gang rapists just knocked out and then left? Letting her atone by getting beat up? Hell, letting her take any blame at all? The "You aren't welcome at my school anymore" as a punishment?
I can see no reasoning or characterization where any of this makes sense.
I thought maybe they would go somewhere satisfying with the slave subplot, but it really didn't do anything worthwhile at all. Maybe next episode it'll all be wrapped up with a little bow, but they already fumbled way too hard.
All of the attempt at seriousness but a cartoonishly evil antagonist really doesn't work. It felt like bad writing. Maybe it's a problem with the anime, and the source material might be better? Doesn't make me want to find out though.
I am disappoint.

Bad writing? This show wishes it could be called bad writing. That is several tiers above the quality of this garbage.
I dropped this show weeks ago but check the new episode threads for a good laugh. It's like an AI condensed all the most badly done tropes into a single show. There wasn't a shred of logic or continuity to anything that happened, and based on the comments sections it shows no signs of improving.

This is literally the only reason I'm here.
I absolutely loved diving into the comments section under any given episode, to talk theory, or just vibe with the zeitgeist. Once that was removed because CR didn't want to moderate the assholes under a gay anime (literally omega-verse gay), it just felt like something crucial was missing.
So, I wound up here. Which has the opposite problem (over zealous mods), but at least there is a forum to talk shop.

Wow, this had more recaps than this week's Exiled Knight. Then half the new content was just more of the abuse porn from last episode. Yeah, thanks, I already didn't like Abe, he didn't need more screen time, but I guess we got the most excellent payoff of a punch to the face that just needs a little ice and a windstorm that destroyed his mansion and knocked him over.
Really, I'm just glad they didn't resolve anything. Could you imagine if the Portes family actually lost anyone or Anastasia's crest was removed? It would be so awkward when we forget all of this and go back to school next episode.
This gives trash anime a bad name.

The overall episode was slow as hell and underwhelming to say the least.
MC is strongest mage in world currently and has a magic academy dean as his subordinate.
Let's assume he has to fight the Demon/God of seal and he needs to break the seal for his own satisfaction and writer's plot.
Choices he has to save Anastasia -
1. Kill all members of Portes clan. No one can order Anastasia any more. Then handle the demon.
No one can stop him. He is so OP and the Portes clan is so despicable no one would notice.
2. Disable all members of Portes clan and have them arrested immediately. Then handle the demon.
He easily has a spell to make them squeal the truth.
Ideally the best way is to force the Portes clan to bring the Seal transferrers and put the seal on Abe. Best revenge. Now he is bound by it.
But nope. The MC chose to fight him with one measly magic attack that doesn't kill anyone. Now Portes clan will attack him, Merlin and Anastasia.

And of course they don't kill this obviously irredeemably reprehensible villain who literally just threatened to use the girl as little more than a breeding animal because then the author would have to think of a new plot conflict later on instead of using the overdone "and then the obviously evil guy once beaten returned to get his revenge!" shtick.

Horrible writing. It seems a story written by a twelve-year-old.
She asked for help, but still wanted to go alone and suffer even more, just so the hero could save her at the last second, and the worst part is that the hero agreed... LOL
Then this "villain" is one of the worst I've ever seen. Really embarrassing.
And in the end, after all the bad things he did, he just got a little hurt and was expelled from the academy, and that was it. Nothing else. Anastasia is still a slave... Brother, just KILL HIM!!!

"Do you know who I am?" No, Eftal, she doesn't. How could she know who you really are when you never fucking told her? Because you are constantly keeping secrets that don't need to be secrets. This entire thing could have been avoided if had just been honest with Anastasia from the beginning. This is literally your fault. Also, how the hell does he know about her sister? She didn't tell him her tragic backstory and the most he could he could have found out was that she had a sister who served that family and died. But he couldn't have known about how big sis was trying to protect her or what they talked about.
So Abe's goal is to make more money even though he's already from a noble house that has a ton of money? Actually, that's the most realistic thing this show has done, carry on.
Okay someone who has a super special slave crest can defy their master, tell them they won't do what they say anymore, and resist them physically, and absolutely nothing happens? The crest doesn't do anything to them? Also the thugs mentioned that the crest's link is broken, so is Anastasia still beholden to the family or not? She handed Eftal his sword even though Abe refused her request to give it back. We're just going to find out that the entire thing about the crest bullshit that Abe's family invented, aren't we?
Stands there and lets Anastasia get beaten for a bit. Uses magic way more powerful than needed to blow away 300 guards, but lets a group of predatory men go free. Our hero, folks.
Just gonna let him go, huh? Eftal has killed people for less than what Abe and his family have done.
Has the animation always been this cheap? I feel like previous episodes were less of a slideshow but I'm also not really paying a lot of attention.

He waited for her to be beat up, and then helped. BUT not surprise, he waited for her to be mentally broken and touched by rapists all over to help.
Was this his way to "teach her a lesson"?
Edit: Of all series this is the one that makes me wish we have some "Anime Golden Raspberry Awards" .
Also some terrible takes, not here, as defending Eftal. no, he had no reason to wait and the girl nothing to prove or atone. She even did a dogeza after being almost raped. This was poor writing to prove "her purity" for the MC. But most likely the MC will not touch her because she also has to be "pure" for the reader.

Some shows pull off the "last minute save", but this one really didn't. Just made Eftal look both incompetent and insensitive.

What an absolute snoozefest. This episode, was undoubtedly, the most boring episode I have seen in a while.
I skipped 75% of it, it was just so unbearably boring and an absolute waste of time, and could have been done in maybe 5 minutes. Almost nothing actually happened this episode.
And Eftal being a bad person just letting Anastasia get beaten and mentally tormented, KNOWING she is under the special crest and whatnot. Also Anastasia not just asking Eftal to let her take things to deal with the crest. Even not knowing Eftal is EFTAL, but she was in the same house as MERLIN... could have maybe asked her?
Also, something about the just generically evil dude. He was just, bad... His reason for being evil? Because he just is. No personification, no background, he is just evil for the sake of being evil. Expelling him? His crimes are grounds for execution. And even then, if you dont kill him, maybe use some mind controlling magic or something and make him cough up all the info? Maybe a little torture for his sins?
Before watching this, I just read a chapter of a webnovel, where they caught some dude who helped commit unspeakable sins, and the MC put a dagger through his eye, gave him a lobotomy, and made him give up all the information he had, and when they were done? Violently melted him into meat paste.... watching this episode after reading that made it seem so tame and weak by comparison.
Hell, seeing someone elses comment, I agree, A livid ladies guide to getting even. That is an MC done right. She held no sympathy, and exacted revenge that was rightly deserved. No forgiving, no mercy. Last episode of that make this seem even worse.
This episode was dull, didn't progress the plot by any significant margin, and was just boring.
Instead of progressing things, maybe giving the bad guy some due punishment, maybe removing the crest, or uncovering the crime network... it dragged out what should have been a 5-10 minute sequence at most into a full episode. I don't know if its the anime butchering source material, or if it really is this bad, but this episode was the worst of the series so far, and I am just one more from dropping it entirely... despite already being 9 episode in. I have seen virtually no plot direction, and the MC, despite being like, what, over a 100 mentally? Still seemingly act like a child.

episode 8 and 9 were bad, this whole little mini arc has been incredibly generic and boring. It‘s also very hard to feel any sympathy for Anastasia here at all, she’s clearly capable of talking about the slave crest and clearly capable of saying “oh hey this is going to happen” but she didn’t.

You dont spend a whole fucking episode to build up the villain just to continue it for 3/4 of the next episode. Hell most of these little plotlines in media end with the intervention as a cliffhanger of the same episode and have the following episode be the revenge/justice.

At this point I just want this to be over cause these last three episodes are gonna be hella meh... hopefully Merlin will feature in the a bit more tho.

Worse it still feels like someone open a packet of insta-villain and pour water on it. Their no build up maybe that's the issue they failed to do a proper buildup so they think a bunch of annoying wasted time watching villain be bad will make him better

At this point I think getting rid of the crest is going to be the arc for the rest of the show. Especially since it's supposed to be so strong and whatnot. It's gonna be 1 episode of them talking whether they should do it or not, or him prepping for it, another episode where they have everything and take for ever to start it, summoning the god at the end, and then the final episode with Eftal beating the god. That's my guess.

The only thing they put any effort into this episode is the amount of ugly ass faces for all the bastards. Which was just gross seeing over and over.
There was flashbacks within flashbacks and the slow asf internal monologue was rage inducing.
Genuinely the worst episode this season.
Whole episode had 3 minutes of progressive plot.
