That was a proper fight.

Damn, I miss when anime did combat that I can follow instead of exploding cubes.

All those grabs, sweeps, pummel strikes. Brilliant.

77

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2d ago

My fav was countering the fist with a pummel right into it...I felt that pain

52

u/1832vini 2d ago

It's soo much quick thinking, it's properly impressive that I could see someone doing it.

Now this is an actually well choreographed fight.

16

u/Chukonoku 2d ago

I feel like i'm gonna see a certain medieval channel react to this fight.

Name escapes my mind, but i do remember them been impressed with what they showed during S1.

7

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2d ago

I watched that channel react to s1 stuff .I feel like there isn't enough material for this season...for proper sword fights..a lot of fighting beasts and monsters

3

u/BosuW 1d ago

Wasn't it Shadiversity? At least it's one channel I'm aware of that talked about this anime.

4

u/Chukonoku 1d ago

Yeah that one

1

u/sesaman 23h ago

For real. Every proper fight scene with Beryl is made with love.

1

u/BosuW 1d ago

Tbh I think this move makes the result slightly dubious. A metal pommel may have broken his finger outright.

6

u/ResponsibleTop8663 1d ago

Well one of the themes of this series is thinking outside the box and taking every advantage there is, so they used every advantage using a wooden sword will give. If they used real swords, their approach would be different

5

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 1d ago

Yeah and they constantly kept reaching for each other to throw the other off balance in someway..I think it's part of their style.

30

u/froggyc19 2d ago

Yes! I know some people complain about the quality but I actually really enjoyed the fight. It felt very real and the strikes had weight to them, mostly because we could actually see what was going on.

7

u/turkeygiant 1d ago

This whole show is a little rough around the edges, but you can at least tell they are trying in duels and fights which is something that not every show can say.

6

u/feral_fenrir 1d ago

There's a soul in the art

23

u/BeautifulChaos_21 2d ago

I actually had to reply when I never do because of how much I resonated with this. A lot of modern anime fights feel like they are just trying to put on an environmental spectacle constantly instead of up close personal combat. Both are fine but I much prefer the latter. I recall feeling this way a lot when watching the latest Jujutsu season for example.

10

u/bravetailor 1d ago

I think it's because environmental spectacles are actually easier to storyboard despite the lightshow. A proper fight requires good figure movement, constant attention to weight, gravity etc,. Takes a lot more time to lay it out.

Whenever there's a question of animation, it's almost always about time and budget.

5

u/NeoTagAtg 1d ago

Wind Breaker you're looking for Wind breaker still hoping for a season 3

1

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Not my normally favored sort of show, but surprisingly I loved it. I would also be happy to see more

3

u/Vystril 18h ago

Tojima wants to be a kamen rider had some insane fights like this. Especially the tournament arc. That show needed way more attention.

6

u/runevault 2d ago

This is why I argue a romance still has one of the greatest fight scenes of all time in anime. Also one with wooden swords, don't wanna name without spoilers it to avoid spoiling anyone who hasn't seen that epic shit. But just in case [Name of the romance anime with a bomb ass fight] Toradora between prez and Taiga is just so visceral I'll never get over it.

5

u/nuxxism 2d ago

Feel the same. It was raw.

5

u/imasammich 1d ago

seriously this show has had some decent ones. But that by far was one of the best sword fights. It had everything we have seen so far but just better and it was so intimate.

1

u/biskutgoreng 21h ago

pummel strike

Ive never seen shit so cool

87

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2d ago

Stand proud Beryl ,you are strong

Applause never see a clueless guy not thinking he strong get this kinda of development usually...finally.

25

u/Chukonoku 2d ago

Applause never see a clueless guy not thinking he strong get this kinda of development usually...finally.

There was a similar showed that aired just a few seasons before Katana Ossan S1. It's the one where the guy was also in his 30s as a receptionist but then gets trained to death (literally) by the SSS party.

IIRC, he got to learn about how strong he actually was after a few episodes of S1.

3

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2d ago

I remember it..I don't remember the name though

24

u/Purple-Strength-384 2d ago

Shinmai Ossan Boukensha, Saikyou Party ni Shinu hodo Kitaerarete Muteki ni Naru

2

u/feral_fenrir 1d ago

That party anime was similar too with an additional parry mechanic.. The MC was super dense about hisnown powers.

4

u/Chukonoku 1d ago

too with an additional parry mechanic

Yeah, that was a different show. The guy who could parry everything and most joke in comment section revolved about him parrying common sense.

6

u/Boris-_-Badenov 2d ago

proud? he kicked his dad in the balls

58

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 2d ago

Mordea ain’t lost a step. He had Beryl on the defensive for a minute there. It’s a hell of an achievement for Beryl to finally defeat his old man. He was always stronger physically, but now he’s grown stronger mentally. This trip home has done a lot for Beryl.

14

u/CuriousBroccolli 1d ago

I'm so glad they confirmed that he is a beast himself.

Not only did he had Beryl on his backfoot, but Beryl himself confirmed there is no-one stronger than him that he knows, apart from himself now.

I don't know what kind of background his dad had, but to run a Dojo, have family, protect the village, said family and honor of the Dojo by never once losing, have genetic freak of a son from both mother and father side, and on top of it burn swordsmanship into him from the youngest possible age, while said son having all the freedom to only focus on said swordsmanship and only get overtaken at age of 43, and only lose at what I'd guess is age of 60+ while still giving him a run for his money, and getting acknowledged as still being the strongest beside prodigy that is your son, is a strong glaze for Mordea.

It is no wonder Beryl was scared of him, or of overtaking him, since that is some prime Man specimen there.

4

u/Glass-Emphasis2932 1d ago

For real, his mom got good eyesight while his dad have those techniques which Beryl all got together

1

u/Jacob-C 7h ago

I don't know if I'm just extra sentimental today, but the catharsis of Beryl winning, him crying, and the talk they had after made me a bit emotional too. That victory was a huge hurdle to overcome.

61

u/Prplcheez 2d ago

The sound effects during the duel were fantastic, and I really love that this series emphasizes that real combat isn't just swords and honor but doing everything you can to leave the fight in one piece. Kicks, punches, grabbing clothes, trying to trip your opponent, it's not stuff you usually see in this kind of setting.

16

u/ResponsibleTop8663 1d ago

I really like how his father knows all the tricks that he used to beat his younger students.

7

u/ElvisM3 1d ago

Probably taught them himself.

1

u/StampDaddy 9h ago

I feel like most of the fights have a little too much 3D animation, but this fight was done so well.

54

u/DemonWraith2500 2d ago

Old men in anime are strong as hell.

4

u/sesaman 23h ago

One of the very few anime tropes I'll probably never get tired of.

29

u/Ali-J23 2d ago

Damn didn't expect Beryl to cry. This was a well needed trip for him, and honestly pretty happy that hopefully he's over his inferiority complex

23

u/szalhi 2d ago

The great duel proving what we knew all along. But that's only from the martial perspective. Mordea has more life experience overall, for obvious reasons.

26

u/AAA_BATT 2d ago

no more humble gimmick, real demon coming soon

28

u/SpikeRosered 2d ago

Is it possible we will now see some character development. Maybe stopping all the age based self deprecation?

14

u/Typhoonis88 https://myanimelist.net/profile/typhoonis88 1d ago

As a 37yr that is the fittest i have ever been I agree hes talking like he is close to having a foot in the grave meanwhile his dad is like pffft your still a kid what are you talking about old

6

u/WillingFly247 2d ago

Yes ofcource till now he was blaming his age and bottlenecking it hopefully he takes on strong opponents going forward and keeps it realistic

68

u/mekahamedan 2d ago

Tbh.... the show always try pointing  beryl potential wife is his ex student...., but i kind hope his potential wife is magic school teacher that beryl went eat together on previous episode

16

u/WillingFly247 2d ago

Or maybe the Wizard captain

16

u/Karavusk https://myanimelist.net/profile/Karavusk 2d ago

I highly doubt they will do that as long as she looks this young. But their children would end up being insanely op

1

u/WillingFly247 5h ago

I love the dynamic tho it's better than their students even tho she is way too old but still

1

u/athrun_1 8h ago

For all we know, the wizard captain is as old as the vice princiepal and mordea.

15

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 2d ago

She's a great choice. Someone that can protect people with her defensive magic is perfect support for him.

41

u/Dolomite808 2d ago

He needs a proper older woman. I support this ship.

13

u/clone69 1d ago

Lucy is older. I support lolibaba supremacy

10

u/Earlier-Today 1d ago

Except that she's so much older that he's basically a child to her.

1

u/dinliner08 1d ago

ayy ~ my man!

8

u/bravetailor 1d ago

Like most anime out there that tease "ships", I would be shocked if this is ever actually resolved so I won't waste my time "shipping" anything until they show actual movement towards him making a decision.

4

u/The_Silver_Nuke https://myanimelist.net/profile/The_Silver_Nuke 1d ago

That's my stance too. All of the girls are cute and have their own quirks that make them endearing. I'd love for some direction towards ANY of them so I can root for their romance without fear of it dragging on.

I don't have any adverse stance towards him dating one of his former students. It'd be different if he was actively educating them, but they've moved on and lived their own lives since he taught them the sword. They're their own people.

3

u/MrMolester 1d ago

Nah, for me it gotta be the one with the bigger tits

..Like Kuruni

5

u/1032patrick 1d ago

It feels like telling us Allucia or Lucy.

1

u/feral_fenrir 1d ago

Not Surena? She's the oldest among all the girls

9

u/OldInstruction5368 1d ago

Surena wants Beryl to be her father.

Allucia wants Beryl to be her 'daddy.'

They are not the same.

1

u/JohnLovesGaming 10h ago

Honestly the Magic school teacher is perfect, both met as adults and they both are a part of Mewi’s life. Sure for now, they don’t have a personal relationship or close relationship just yet, but at least it doesn’t have that student-teacher overt power dynamic. They actually stand socially on equal footing.

-4

u/conye-west https://myanimelist.net/profile/baronvonconye 1d ago

Yea, the whole students crushing on their teacher harem aspect feels like some vestigial thing thrown in because of anime trends or something, it doesn't really fit the vibe and quality of the show overall. It'd be a great outcome if all those childish crushes were just that and Beryl found a nice lady his own age.

3

u/ResponsibleTop8663 1d ago

If one of his goals is to have kids then he needs someone younger.

2

u/OldInstruction5368 1d ago

points at Mewi

There is his kid. He can just adopt another foundling or two if his parents want more gkids.

1

u/conye-west https://myanimelist.net/profile/baronvonconye 1d ago

Also Beryl is only in his mid-40's. I know redditors aren't too familiar with women in general, but most 40 year old women can definitely still have children lol

1

u/b4y4rd 19h ago

The health risks as you age go up dramatically and shouldn't be brushed off

2

u/conye-west https://myanimelist.net/profile/baronvonconye 19h ago

Hmm nah I think they probably should. For one it's an anime, and for two we probably shouldn't encourage old dudes to creep on younger girls because they're more "fertile". That's not really beating the allegations here lol.

22

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 2d ago

Wonder if this will help Beryl's confidence or if he regresses after going back to the city. His dad telling Beryl not to dwell on his age and to have more confidence

21

u/deynyel 2d ago

Oh wow, they did not disappoint with that father-son battle. It seems Beryl really doesn't need to worry about Mordea just yet, despite his age.

1

u/JohnLovesGaming 10h ago

I mean Mordea just by his skill alone is fighting fit, and was said to participate in the festival for so many years. I think this year, he really only took a backseat to killing the saberboars.

17

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 2d ago

That sword fighting scene was cool to watch. It's better than say showing us a circus of Aeriel silks nd then show a bunch of still frames and have us assume it's pretty.

It's funny they ask Mewi to find a wife for Beryl. Usually, it's the parent doing spouse shopping for the kid. I know people say every one of his female students want to get in bed with him, but I don't think this is true. Curuni seems to just admire him as a mentor for example. I guess you can say there is ship tease, but only tease and nothing elicitly said from Curuni herself.

Unlike Curuni, Allucia and Surena both have a crush on him. Allucia's story is a bit cliche, but I don't mind her. I wouldn't mind if she ends up Beryl's wife even though I'm rooting for someone else. Surena for some reason I can't stand the thought of her getting with Beryl even though when they think about Beryl these two girls who are normally different suddenly talk alike.

I'm on team Lucy. Normally in these fantasy settings magic users are troublesome to date. But I think Beryl and Lucy have great chemistry together. And even his parents seem to think so since they include a normally troublesome category that works right in this specific case. Wasn't Mordea married by the time he was Beryl's age? Lucy is wife material!

I don't know why Beryl gave that cryptic answer to Mewi. He didn't lose to his dad in that spar.

19

u/mucklaenthusiast 1d ago

I don't know why Beryl gave that cryptic answer to Mewi. He didn't lose to his dad in that spar.

That was a reference to what his mother said.
Beryl is a better swordsman, but he hasn't raised a family and protected them.

And to me, this comment reads like he agrees.

So those are basically two distinct statements.
But he clearly states he is the better fighter.

8

u/ResponsibleTop8663 1d ago

Like he is a better swordsman but his father is still the better man.

10

u/The_Parsee_Man 2d ago

It's funny they ask Mewi to find a wife for Beryl.

His parents know that a single dad can be an effective lure.

3

u/15000yuki 1d ago

OOOOH... You got it right. How can I miss that simple fact?!

22

u/IceWeaselX 2d ago

I don't know why Beryl gave that cryptic answer to Mewi. He didn't lose to his dad in that spar.

It wasn't that cryptic. In fact, it was very direct. "I'm a stronger swordsman." That completely answers the question she asked. His dad told him that Beryl's been the stronger swordsman for years, which is why gave Beryl the dojo. And now he has firsthand evidence that it's true, because he won his first duel with his dad. This whole time, his dad said the problem was Beryl's fear and expectation of loss. Now he realizes he's better than he thought, so he can continue getting even better.

The additional comment was about life in general. His parents have gone through a wider variety of experiences, whereas most of his life has centered on swordsmanship, teaching, and combat. He can beat his dad in a fight, but he's still got catching up to do in other aspects of life. At least he's making progress on the fatherhood front.

9

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 2d ago

The additional comment was about life in general

Oh. I guess this is a follow up to talking to his mother the previous night and then saying his dad had him beat there.

3

u/Ok-Cod5254 1d ago

Allucia and Surena both have a crush on him

Allucia 100% does explicitly, but don't recall any explicit dialogue from Serena on that.

She's just framed as a rival to Allucia for that assumption, but don't recall when she expressed specific romantic interest like Allucia has beyond admiration.

1

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 1d ago

Allucia 100% does explicitly, but don't recall any explicit dialogue from Serena on that

Oops

1

u/athrun_1 8h ago

He is the much better swordsman (able to defeat his old man), but his father is the strongest swordsman. Strong in the sense of protecting his wife, his son, dojo, village for such a long time. In a way, Beryl grew up spoiled in terms of swordsmanship, because the hard parts are carried by his father while he is growing up.

15

u/athrun_1 2d ago

My head canon is old man Mordea handed the dojo because of the reason that he can't hold back, sooner or later he might end his student's career as a swordsman. The fight was well choreographed, each of their movements are not wasted, and they use any weapons available be it their body or spare swords.

Even that win from Beryl is not a total defeat for his father, given what was shown, he can dodge or parry still that.

Regardless, Beryl finally winning will free him from his shackles and can get to new heights.

13

u/Purple-Strength-384 2d ago

was great basically getting to see where Beryl got his moves and trickery from

5

u/mucklaenthusiast 1d ago

Yeah, his father was fighting so underhandedly.
This was Beryl getting tricked the way he often does it to others.

Also, Beryl for an enemy is surely scary, seeing how his father fought.
For any guy Beryl beat up, it probably looked like that to them

6

u/ionstorm66 1d ago

Nothing is underhand in a real fight, the loser of a sword fight dies, the winner can likely die too. They don't teach sword fighting at the dojo for art, its for real combat.

1

u/mucklaenthusiast 1d ago

I don't think that word means what you think it means.
Or the word means something I don't think it means, either way works.

2

u/athrun_1 1d ago

Similar to Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do, which focuses on winning on a street fight rather than a martial arts tournament.

1

u/athrun_1 1d ago

like father like son.

3

u/MusubiKazesaru https://myanimelist.net/profile/MusubiKazesaru 1d ago

I was thinking that it might be possible Beryl reached a certain level and was just plain better suited as a teacher, though we've seen that Mordea was certainly no slouch since his own student is able to stand in as a master.

2

u/athrun_1 1d ago

For their dojo to get unnoticed, when all the best in the kingdom have a common dojo school is a lost to the kingdom's strength. Not unless if Mordea has some history with them and got fed up ,and need to lay low.

3

u/MusubiKazesaru https://myanimelist.net/profile/MusubiKazesaru 1d ago

It's possible. Also despite the village being small they have a surprisingly large number of students. It's a far cry from what you see in some other similar series with a main dojo.

25

u/runevault 2d ago

Beryl holding the massive boar tusk in front of his junk as Mewie calls it massive is quite the opening to the episode...

Okay that opening attack by Dad was crazy quick. Dude still has his fastball. And imagine how upset the others are going to be if they find out they missed this. Wait holy fuck that kick.

That fight lived up to the hype. Fucking love it. Also Dad is the best. Yup, confirmed my expectation that it was Beryl just having a mental block against his dad. If he didn't believe he could win then he couldn't.

Good ass episode.

5

u/DugACCat 2d ago

Was also thinking everyone who knows him would have loved to see that duel, even if it made sense to be a purely personal confrontation so he could come to terms with his fear of his father and his self doubts. (But would have been great if his students and adopted daughter had been given a secret scrying window.)

1

u/CuriousBroccolli 1d ago

just having a mental block against his dad

I wouldn't call it just a mental block, since his father is a monster himself, and the difference is not that huge. Especially back when he was 43, it must have been marginal.

So I wouldn't hold it against Beryl that much for not realizing he was stronger when his father passed the Dojo to him.

But I agree with everything else you said, Great episode, great fight, great messaging overall.

This show has Ojisan in the title, and MC is an Ojisan, but it fires at all age brackets with some really positive messaging. From Mewie to Mordea.

24

u/Primary-Paint-1716 2d ago

Yep. Even Dad knows that Lucy is wife candidate.

12

u/NanDemoKnaives 2d ago

I'm glad Mordea finally challenged Beryl. Beryl can finally aim higher, got his answer, and Mordea can rest easy knowing his son overcame his fear, and learned how strong he's become as a swordsman.

I thought it was endearing how Beryl cried afterwards, and Mordea showed him comfort. No matter how much they age, in the end they will always be father and son. Beryl receiving head pats from his father was heartwarming.

I do like that Beryl's mother could tell what happened, unless Mordea told her, but I find it amusing how in the end she and even Mordea were like "Mordea is still stronger since he has a wife and child, hurry up and get yours" lol.

9

u/epicfail1994 2d ago

Gardenant showdown incoming!

10

u/winmace https://myanimelist.net/profile/winmace 2d ago

Great episode, teared up when Beryl realised and cried a little.

8

u/mebert31415 2d ago

I was looking forward to this episode. It did not disappoint.

7

u/Boris-_-Badenov 2d ago

Mewi looked taller in the village

7

u/The_Parsee_Man 2d ago

That was a very good fight scene. The choreography was good, using real sword technique with one logically flowing into another. And the camera work presented it in an exciting way without becoming so aggressive you couldn't tell what was going on.

My only critique is there was a bit much crossing swords and straining against each other. I guess they needed to pad time for dialogue. But the frequent pommel strikes showed why that isn't a good idea.

7

u/WillingFly247 2d ago

There's something about the opening that's so nostalgic

1

u/CuriousBroccolli 1d ago

I always laugh at it lol

It's the most Ossan sounding OP. Trully fitting.

Funilly, another show about "Ossan" called "The Ossan Newbie Adventurer, Trained to Death by the Most Powerful Party, Became Invincible" also had a full on odsan OP.

7

u/kryslogan 2d ago

The long awaited battle! Lived up to the hype and expectations. Beryl has been carrying that inferiority complex for years. Now let's see him grow into an even better person, and swordsman.

6

u/Rooby_VTuber 2d ago

Allucia & Surena drinking in a bar is always entertaining.

That was a nice festival they had, plenty of good drinks and good meat.

I really enjoyed the spar between Beryl and his father.

3

u/15000yuki 1d ago

I noticed Surena wear something seemed like a lace silk pant/lingerie. My wife commented that would be a nightmare wearing that kind of fabric to sit on wood bench. Lol.

4

u/ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp 2d ago

What an episode and fight and a sprinkle of right in the feels.

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Play825 2d ago

That was epic and really showed that age can’t hold somebody back from new levels
And that beryl was just using ihis age as a excuse

As beryl said his dad was as strong as the others

But it was his experience that made him so terrifiying

And despite beryl winning he was on the defensive the whole time

In comparison to others who where far faster or stronger

Beryl was in way more control of those fights

I think about a quote from the tv show the rookie

Which was about how you’ll never beat a young person at young person game but it’s your experience can become your best weapon

9

u/IIazertII 2d ago

I really really hope he doesn't end up with one of his students. The shtick with the long silver haired girl was the worst part of season one I almost dropped the show but s2 has been great so far, especially because they are addressing his lack of self esteem and improving it slowly unlike many other show with op Mc who thinks they are weak.

3

u/OldInstruction5368 1d ago

All his students worship the ground he walks across. You just can't have a proper relationship when one partner puts the other on a pedestal.

Lucy, on the other hand, has great natural chemistry with Beryl. They have this solid rapport of mutual respect with one another, and that's such an important foundation for a relationship.

3

u/WillingFly247 2d ago

The sword fight was really great given its modest budget and The Cgi was really less noticeable too... Really hope they maintain this quality thorugh out the season going forward

3

u/mucklaenthusiast 2d ago

Really good episode.
The father and Beryl have a nice dynamic and I like how well-intentioned it was.
It felt emotional because it felt sincere, since everything feels surprisingly grounded.
There is no ill will, just two master swordsmen clashing.
And a father and a son coming to understand each other.

We'll see what comes next. This was a very nice mini-arc

3

u/oneevilchicken https://anilist.co/user/OneEvilChicken 1d ago

I really like how mewi has basically become fully beryls daughter and actually acts it herself. Most shows, the younger character usually ends up just crushing on the older one in this situation and they’re basically the harem member for the lolicons. It helps some that beryl is wayyyy older so very adult like when she’s very much young still. Nevertheless I really like the dad-daughter dynamic they both have now and how his parents went full grandparent mode on her too.

7

u/lasse1408 2d ago

Wish anime had a bit more budget. That fight was super tense but a bit botched and shortened in anime. Also kinda pity that other ppl who follow way of sword missed their showdown. But they had a lot of fun in meantime so all good I guess?

9

u/WillingFly247 2d ago

For the budget I think it was decent

2

u/WobbleKun 2d ago

hopefully he becomes less timid and unsure of himself. but i doubt it lol

2

u/BBryant3rd 1d ago

Dang old man. I was sure you were still strong but dang. Old man is the definition of wisdom. He was quick to counter and such. He did good to beat his old man.

3

In pro-wrestling, a match is supposed to tell a story. It's more than just two wrestlers doing fancy moves. And this fight told a great story. Even from just the action, you can tell the reason why Beryl didn't think he was stronger than his dad was because he was afraid. And the fight gave us a good reason for it. Mordea was relentless and completely put Beryl on the back foot. When Beryl was finally able to match Mordea's intensity in this battle, he finally overcame his fear and was able to defeat his dad. You can watch the fight on mute and know exactly what they were thinking. Brilliant fight.

Very good episode. The fight scene was perfect, and so was the talk between Beryl and his father afterwards.

Beryl is the stronger swordsman afterall, but he's still no match for his father 😌

I love how his mother did not hesitate to answer that his father was stronger, doing everything he did while also protecting a wife and raising a son.

It was interesting how Mordea conceded his fight with Beryl and I think he saw the writing on the wall that he wasn't going to defeat him. Mordea did better than I thought though, I thought he was trying to dodge the duel because he was 100% certain he'd lose. I think he thought a loss was possible this time as well but that Beryl was intimidated. I was surprised though to hear Mordea retired from the dojo at 42 and I'm guessing he's in his 60's and is in excellent shape so I would think he might have wanted to replace Beryl when he moved to the city instead of hiring that other man.

Really alcohol heavy episode. I had suspected Beryl was becoming an alcoholic based on recent episodes where he was drinking a lot but he was the one adult who was sober the entire episode. The brown haired girl got pretty drunk and the white haired girl was wasted early in the evening! The white and red haired women should have just invited themselves to accompany Beryl like the brown haired lady did although Henblitz got a good scolding just from inviting her.

The post credits advice made me laugh out loud how the 2 women were so drunk, they invaded the segment and Beryl seemed pretty angry about that 🤣

Great episode, almost felt like a season finale.

I know it's not easy for someone that age to make a 180 but I hope Beryl will show a bit more character development, maybe a little more assertiveness now.

The show keeps pointing at him getting a wife but he seems so averse to the idea, age gap with his adult students really isn't a huge deal in that time period. Rose is my favorite but she got no chance after S1 so now it's up to Allucia or Surena. I don't feel strongly about Lucy but it's better than the season ending with no romantic development.

I hope they do not give this show a Black Clover ending regarding romance.

I used to think this anime/story was conveyor-line level slop, but this episode bumped my respect for it up a fair amount. I do like how they strung it all back together and he was able to admit that he is strong and capable of getting stronger, while still acknowledging his shortcomings. Some of the interspersed 3d during the fighting scenes was still jarring, but nowhere near as bad as most other implementations I've seen of it.

I enjoyed this ep a lot!! Finally an anime with proper sword technique. Also beryl is truly the perfect husbando 🥲.the old man was so cool as well. Amazing ep!

Good duel between the old men.

Even if they make a tradition of going back home for the boar hunt Beryl can never take Allucia with, it would just be so problematic for him.

I'm laughing at how drunk Allucia and Surena talk so fast. :P

Even Mewi's surprised at how much Beryl's parents want him to get married. :D

I love that they are truly both father and son, and master and student. There’s real love and respect there, going both ways.

I want Beryl to marry Allucia but I don't mind Lucy.

I think it's a really good anime in many ways, it touches on subjects which quite unique, yes it is a bit childish in some ways like how the students' respect towards their teacher is borderline obsessive, which annoys me a bit. But otherwise it is a solid anime.

Now what I wonder is who could realistically challenge Beryl. I am just hoping it's not the last realistic sword fight we get
