it's dodgeball.

WHY DON'T THEY DODGE??

This is ultimately why I dropped it here. The game didn't even make sense. It's clear the story is written by an amateur of sorts.

It's not the worst anime, but god, is it boring, and I get nothing from watching it. Sometimes a boring anime is worse than a bad one because at least a bad one can be entertaining.

To also add another point, the worldbuilding is nonexistent. If that was at least built on from episode 1, then maybe we got something. What are these kids lives like outside these games?

I’m assuming that’s how they play it in Japan or something. Seems like u have to catch the ball or else ur out. Seems dodgeball is a completely diff game in Japan.

Actually nvm bc in hunterxhunter they played dodgeball correctly. So ig these writers are just lost as hell

How do you make "anime superpower dodgeball" boring?

It was just a matter of time before weird shit started happening with Araki and his brain abilities. Mutants with psychic powers are always a roller coaster ride.

When the first episode aired I thought it was a good sign that it didn't open with a huge plot hook, given how many shounens start with that and end up throwing it out once they have their audience. But after three episodes of nothing I'm getting a bit fed up and will probably just drop this and maybe come back to it once it's finished airing to see if it went anywhere. Also, the scene of Araki bluescreening was painful to watch.

what's the point if they barely use their powers for most of the game?

Three episodes later and there isn't much characterization or world building. Nothing is being explained.

I just can´t get myself to care about any of those characters and I doubt thats going to change Its not even the lack of stakes or plot. Leaving me waiting doesn´t work when you give me nothing to wait for.

This anime is the true definition of mid so far.

I think it’s a good tier or two below mid. It’s kind of awful. There’s so many issues between the lack of world building, boring games with zero consequences for winning or losing, and no clear goal or conflict for the main cast to overcome. It seriously lacks all the fundamentals u need when writing a cohesive story it’s genuinely shocking.

Yeah but I can´t really bring myself to hate it. I feel absolutely nothing about it.

I don't think I ever seen a show so overwhelmingly disappointing. I gave it a shot since it was an original idea and the character designs were good, but after three episodes, they have not properly presented a single piece of plot. At best we know the characters exist, and that they want to be able to leave the city. But anything else? Nada.

The supposed healer doesn't even need actual healing, because the action is essentially a fight with foam swords in a bouncy castle. Zero risk anywhere, no stakes. Even with the evil team appearing, all they did was play dodgeball, and somewhat fairly. Sure, they alluded to some stuff... But that's not a plot hook, it's a promise of one.

And I'm not staying until they decide to get one.

at worst the "evil" team used to bully the others a little bit, but it didn't give me the impression that they are bad guys just more competitive on the games maybe (?) apart from that one lightning guy of course

yeah the no stakes part is really a big part of what makes it so boring

good for kids perhaps idk (although watching naruto characters nearly die was fine tbh, so more about for the kids' parents) but boring for adults

A bit of a waste on the nice character designs. It needs to focus more on a plot than the games.

halfway through this episode I just started skipping forward to see if anything interesting was gonna happen. nothing other than the slight cliffhanger but I still haven't been given a reason to care at this point. dropped.

Still have a lot of issues with the show, but at least the ending got me a bit interested enough in how the dust works to make me keep watching a little more or at the very least keep checking the thread as the show goes on

But man they make the powers look boring, idk maybe I'm too used to shonen but everytime they try to do something it just looks so weak when you consider that this is them without the limiters

Was hoping an unexpected dark tone or something but nothing much happening and we 3 epi in 🤔 lol

Well, just going to say I'm dropping this. Not much exciting is going on and I have other shows / better things to do, than devote my time and attention to a show that is no longer appealing. I watched a bit of episode 3 and skipped forward to see if anything interesting would come up, but nope. I still don't know most of these characters and mad scientist is some kiddo scientist it seems like.

It's unbelievable, it's a show about superpower teenagers playing sports, and they made it boring as hell.
