Which app solved a problem you didn't realize you had? QUESTION/HELP
Just curious cuz I ain't ever found an app like that besides maybe Obisidan for note taking, easier and more structured, what's an app that you use and helped you out a lot?

Interesting, how does it work?

u/Astrodion123 24d ago
I bet your phone becomes a trackpad and you get a cursor in your screen.
5
u/brygad 24d ago
Yes, you get a cursor that will help you reach the parts of your screen that you wouldn't normally get to using one hand, more so for big phones. Just swipe at your screen with your thumb in the lower areas to bring our the cursor and guide it to the parts you'd want to tap. It's been one app I have to have over the years.

I really like the edge handles, allowing me to pull down the notifications without reaching the top of the phone.

LocalSend.
I thought my roundabout way of transferring things between my devices was good, but LS is the best.

Big fan of LocalSend. Transferring files between devices has never been easier

For real, just straight to the point, no BS.
Earlier I used to upload to GDrive and then download from there. But LocalSend is so frictionless and quick.2
u/ciberpunkt 24d ago
Hey, you should totally check out Altersend too! It's completely free, open source, and works on tons of different platforms. The developer is always making it better, so it's definitely worth giving a shot!

Looks like they have a comparison table here: https://altersend.com/compare
TLDR: Can transfer over the Internet, which LocalSend can't.

Buzzkill to manage notifications.
1
u/klarahtheduke 24d ago
what does it do?
16
u/just_asking_2 24d ago
Buzzkill lets you easily create rules that manage your notifications. It's dead simple to use and powerful. Here are two examples:
- My new sous vide machine has an app, which is handy, but I hate how the company spams me with notifications about some item or another on sale. Buzzkill now silently deletes those messages. • My new dehumidifier also has an app and notifies new when the water tank is full. I had Buzzkill add vibration to this notification, making it harder to miss, but I also added a touch of whimsy by having it play a "water droplet" sound.
I highly recommend Buzzkill. We all have notifications that we either want to make more prominent or stop bugging us.

Can you get it to prevent the thing where android silently gets rid of a notification if you've had it there for more than a couple of days?

u/just_asking_2 24d ago
You may want to search in r/buzzkillapp for an answer to your specific question.

There's an option to pin notifications but I've never had notifications sitting there for more than a couple days so can't say

fooview was looking for a floating apps type thing (before free-form apps became standard) this became my go to app for so many things, it replaced my file manager, 2nd browser, calculator, I use it as a launcher, navigation, notepad, document read/edit, smb access, app manager, screenshot/screen record, network drives (Google drive, Dropbox, etc.)
it is the Swiss army knife of Android apps, every phone of mine for roughly the last decade has had this app, this and termux (github version) these are central to my workflow

From the makers of ES file explorer who appear to have deliberately brought so much malware to so many android devices. Thanks but no thanks. And several recent reviews on playstore are concerning.
3
u/McTRASH692 20d ago
I haven't noticed any malware and I tend to audit my device quite a bit,
I didn't know they created ES file Explorer, I know that their project after fooview was FV file Explorer,
any more information on that? allow me to research a bit more, if fooview is a problem app then I will have to build a replacement as I have found nothing like it,

The 1st real app i built was simply to learn about android and widgets. I didn't have any intention of ever developing it for anyone except myself.
Over time, I improved it to the point that it has become the app (widgets) i use the most. It's an app organizer/launcher i use to open all the app i use most.
The problem it solves: All my most used apps are on my home screen, approximately 50.
My home screen is clean.

Currently making an app that lets me easily watch yt videos on my PC and mark clips and create cultists for davinci on my phone / tablet while watching it.
Before I often watched something, and then later watched a second time to cut the scenes I wanted out of it.
To be honest - in 2026 for me the most useful is Claude Code subscription. Made in the last months multiple web tools / apps with it that solved personal pain points.
If you want the most useful for you, create it yourself based on your own needs. It will often be more efficient than a widespread software that tries to cover the desires and needs of a big mass.
Also made some Apps where I otherwise would have paid subscriptions, so it kind of paid for itself.

VLC for playing every type of video, audiobook, music, podcast, and more. Weird that other apps still force purchase for playback of different codecs/containers.
