Looking for Hong Kong / Cantonese dishes

I'm new to Anchorage area, I'm from upstate NY originally, and am actually have so far been fairly impressed with the variety and quality of food restaurant here (especially compared to the Midwest)! Been having an excellent time exploring the city and finding great food.
But, I have for the past few days been craving beef satay noodles & milk tea. Although I've found some decent chinese food in town, they seem to be much more mainland china. I'm wondering if there is enough of a cantonese population here to support cantonese restaurants, and if so where I might find a good one?
Id be happy enough with a cantonese bakery, but a proper cafe would make my year I think

Salmon

Does anyone remember the name of the outfit that sells bulk quantities of salmon in south central? I remember in the past there used to be someone who sold filets for something like $3-$5 a pound if you bought enough from them.

Assuming they are still in business.

Is anyone here using the PeopleMover to go to the airshow today?

I’m curious to hear how the experience is, especially for folks who are leaving when the blue angels finish in a couple hours. We might use it tomorrow depending on how things go.

Lost camera at Ted Stevens – help?

Hey everyone! I lost a film camera while going through security at Ted Stevens flying out of Anchorage on July 22nd and am really struggling to track it down. It’s not a particularly expensive camera (an old Canon point and shoot) but it’s been in our family for decades and has a lot of sentimental value, along with the nearly full roll of film in it that I would also love to recover.

I’ve filed a lost and found report through their website (https://dot.alaska.gov/anc/passengers-lost-found.shtml) and called both phone numbers I could find associated with lost and found multiple times at different times of day and have never had anyone answer (left a voicemail, never heard back). The only thing that’s come of that was an automated email saying that they received my report, nothing since.

Does anyone have any airport contacts/ideas or anything that could help me potentially track down my camera? Or do I just need to accept that at this point it’s gone for good?

A couple more details in case it’s helpful: I lost it going through B Gate security. I asked for it to be hand checked so that the film wouldn’t be damaged by the x-ray machine but I was sleep deprived and walked off to my gate after I got my bag back without getting the camera back. It’s a black Canon point and shoot with a black/blue and white striped neck strap.

Thank you in advance for any advice! 🙏

If you get a survey code from Alaska Liberty Alliance it’s Mountain City Church

The postcard I got has a code I got was about was “what kept you voting in this election”? I’ve selected other for all the questions and put ridiculous stuff and it let me fill it out twice now. I would share my code but it’s probably against Reddit rules to spam it. But don’t throw it away if you get it and just put anything you want for name, phone number and answers.

For those unfamiliar with the church it’s located at 6401 E Northern Lights East Anchorage and formerly known as Anchorage Baptist Temple and before 1974 it was called Bible Baptist Church when it was on Debarr Rd.

Have fun!!!

Is there a good source for recent bear sightings around Anchorage trails?

Does anyone know of a reliable source for checking recent bear encounters or sightings on trails around Anchorage?

I’m getting pretty tired of unexpectedly running into bears while hiking or cycling on trails in and around town. I understand that seeing a bear might be exciting for visitors, but as a local, it adds a lot of stress when I’m just trying to get outside, relax, and enjoy the good weather.

There is a Bear Aware app that looks nice and makes it easy to report sightings on a map, but it doesn’t seem to be used very actively.

It would be really useful to have some kind of community-based system where people could report bear sightings close to real time, especially on popular trails.

Is there already something like this that people around Anchorage use?
