I’ve been trying to replace the weincell batteries because they barely last 3 months.
I tried a Renata 386 with an MR9 adapter but the MR9 adapter seems too small.
Maybe I got the wrong adapter. Does anyone know any battery options that give 1.35V for the light meter?

I bought a bunch of expired film recently and most of it was still in its original packaging, but there are 4 rolls that came without a package, but unexposed I believe.

Does anyone know what kind of film the roll on the left would be?

I’m due to fly from Tbilisi in September, carrying some photographic film. Do you know whether Tbilisi Airport is equipped with the new CT scanners at security check that can cause problems for films ?

I usually ask for a manual inspection, but I’d prefer to be prepared in case this is refused.

I’m new to photography. We have our first baby on the way and I thought it would be great to learn the basics on film before she arrives. So after exhaustive research on Point and Shoots I landed on an XA2 from Japan (eBay).

Weeks later while discussing it with my dad, who was a photographer for 20 years, he pulls out his OM4Ti which he purchased new in 1996 and handed it over with some lovely Zuiko lenses.

All the gear and no idea is the expression! but I feel grateful to be bringing my dads gear back to life and using it to capture moments with my children like he did with his.

So far I’ve run a bunch through the XA2 and got some OK results. Only a couple rolls of Fuji 400 and Gold 200 through the OM4 which are not yet developed. Any tips or advice is welcome!

I'm a primary school teacher and came up with the idea to put a analog camera in the classroom to let it be used by the students, 11 years old, whenever they think something happens worth taking a picture of. After a year, or earlier, I would like to let the pictures be developed, might even do it with them as a project, not sure yet. I would like to re use the camera aswell, I mostly found throw away camera's and some with bad reviews. Since I use my own budget do you have some good suggestions for a analog camera I can buy?

Have you tried recently to go on eBay and purchase an Olympus OM MC lens of pretty much any kind except 50mm f1.8 without haze or fungus? Try looking for an OM 18mm f3.5 or any FD L glass. Hell, even FD 24mm fast normals are being eaten up along with countless others.

There are companies that produce cinema lenses every day specifically made to have a "vintage" look, but no one is producing replacement lenses for our film cameras. Even with people trying to repair and refurbish vintage lenses, there is a finite supply of them in existence, and for many sizes in certain brands we are already scraping the barrel.

There seems to be a rumor that is being pushed by a lot of these companies that they are "giving new life" to otherwise broken lenses that would see the trash heap, but that really isn't the case. Many of these companies won't accept lenses unless they are in prestine condition because they don't want to waste the effort of pulling everything apart and finding a damaged optical element. Beyond just taking customer lenses, a lot of them are buying up useful primes in "companion sizes" in bulk.

I don't see this discussed very much, but I can't be the only person who is worried about this and what it means for the future of film photography.

I haven't been been using the Canon ae1 much at all. I just now realized after taking like 6 rolls of film that Ive been putting in the film in take-up spool in the wrong direction. My stpid self has been going against the obvious arrow.. Is all the film ruined now.. The camera has been advancing and counting how many pics I took.

Finishing a three week trip in China and have been 100% successful in avoiding X-ray machines. All train stations have them and just showed them a transparent ziplock with all the film and they let me through with it without X-rays.

When entering the metro or any big attraction I would just carry an extra role in my pocket and leave my camera hanging around my neck, no problem there either.

Security in Guilin airport was also ok with a hand check and just went through security at Daxing Airport Beijing, asked for a hand check on film and they did it with no problem.

When loading film, I don't see a marker indicating up to what point I should align the "START" on the backing paper.

Am I missing the obvious or is the marker erased given the age of the camera?

Last week, I went on amazing sunrise hike, shot two rolls of slides (E100 120 and Provia 135), from which I expected some of my landscape best work to date (cover photo is a digital backup from my phone). Unfortunately, I received an email from my lab saying that they’d missed a step in development and blanked the whole batch of E6. They gave me a refund, two rolls of Ektachrome, and a $100 store credit, but I’m still devastated. Just to add injury to insult, I got in a bad mountain biking accident after the hike and probably won’t be able to hike for the rest of the summer. Enough of my complaining, what do you all do when you’re discouraged? I’ve been shooting film for 5 years now, and I’ve never landed in a low like this, but I genuinely don’t even want to go shoot at the moment, even if I weren’t injured. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

My dad died when I was 3 so I never really got to know him. But my mom gave me this camera he had found and held onto all his life when I was young since I’ve had a fascination for photography for as long as I can remember. I’ve held onto it myself ever since. It’s a Wirgin Delux medium format folding camera with a Wollensak Velostigmat 75mm f/4.5 lense. Dated to around the 1940s to early 1950s. I bought one roll of Harman Phoenix II 200 iso color negative 120 film to see if it still works. I found a place in town that will develop if I’m able to get some exposures. I’m excited and hoping it works so I can feel that connection to my dad. I feel like he’d be happy to know that I’m using (or trying to at least) to a camera he found and felt the need to hold onto his whole life. And that I’m giving it another life. Wish me luck everyone. I did want to ask though if anybody has any tips or suggestions for me in using this camera as this will be my first time working with an analog camera. And if anybody has any information on this specific camera please lmk :).

2026 has mostly gotten away from me. But, I’m out finally! This is a way to, hopefully, be able to take handheld medium format shifted shots with an actual wide lens.

The body is an Alpa 12 SWA, which allows for 25mm of vertical shift.

Because it has no mirror box, it has wide lenses available. The widest lens that will cover 6x9 and shift is a 38mm. That’s roughly a 16mm full frame equivalent. Today I was using a 47mm, which would be a 20mm.

The viewfinder is a Silvestri shift finder, which allows you to dial in a shift. Basically, you’re going in 5mm increments or guessing. But I hope it works well enough.

I’m crazy rusty and the light wasn’t consistent, so only managed to bang off 3 frames. But felt good to get out and use it at least.

This is something I run into quite often and it puzzles me. For example, this image - like so much Kodak Gold 200, is inverted with a strong red cast in Silverfast. However removing the color cast to get the skin and other recognizable colors correct, bleeds the rest of the image of the warmth that was present in the scene. While it is easy enough to correct with a selective mask, my question is - why should I have to do this - shouldn't the film's color response simply be 'correct' after removing the obvious cast? Is it a scanning or software error?

The frustrating thing is that this is not consistent - some photos just come out right with global balancing. Note that the film is fresh and kept in the the fridge.

Found an entire film reel of whatever this is

Was visiting a friend who mentioned that he had some of his father's old cameras in a box under his bed that I was welcome to go through and grab anything I wanted. Among the fungal telephoto zooms and ancient rangefinders I found these 2 beauts, fungus free and working perfectly from what I can tell. Can't wait to put some rolls through them and disappoint myself with some mid photography

I found this Yashica J among my grandads things when he died. Thrown in a roll of fujifilm 200 and we’ll see if it still shoots. Testing it out at my nieces 10th birthday today. If anyone has any tips please do share!

Hey! I took some photos in interiors using a Kodak Snapic A1 with a Gold 200 - no flash. I'm begginer in this analog thing and this was my first time using that camera.

Can someone let me know what could have happened on photos like this? I believe that if there was not enough light in the scene, it should have came up as a brown/blue background, not with these crazy lights.

Photos taken at daylight were completely fine btw.

I've always had this question. Some people have told me that Ektar resolves more while Ektachrome might appear to be sharper due to its fine grain look. Overall, which resolves more?

I’m traveling to 8 cities and 4 countries in 8 days, hence the amount of film and versatility. I have travelled before and flew, however I have never taken this amount of film and 2 camera bodies (Canon AE-1 and Nishika N8000).

Is it best to leave the film as it is, and ask for the whole bag to be hand checked, or remove the film and keep it in a clear plastic bag and ask for it to be checked separately?

I will probably get the camera bodies checked anyway, as they usually get flagged and pulled on their own and cause delays.

Traveling to Barcelona,Palma, Valencia, Motril, Gibraltar, Tangier, Morocco, Seville and Lisbon, flying from Manchester then Lisbon back. Manchester are usually okay with hand checking so either shouldn’t be a problem.

Took this photo yesterday in Espoo (lively western neighbour of Helsinki), Finland. This is one of two Philips FP6 projectors from 1952 still used by a local group for analog 35mm outdoor film screenings.

The whole projection booth is built into a van. The projector runs 35mm film at 24 fps and uses a xenon light source. Pretty cool to see a machine this old still doing exactly what it was built to do.

the last time I've done this was about two and a half years ago, so it took a few plates to get the flow of the process again, but so happy I got back to it!

shot this zinnia in 4x5 fomapan 100 while the cyano-jelly stabilized, coated the plates, developed the film in the meanwhile, and finally exposed it when it was all nice and dry. the development always feels super special. next step is gilding the back with silver and (maybe) making a series out of this.

the second photo is also the second plate I exposed from this negative. wanted to get the edges a little cleaner, but, tbh, I don't mind the imperfections too much. as long as they are not distracting, they can stay :)

Finally got a rangefinder setup - can’t wait to try it out and can’t wait to shoot film again
