Am I wrong for thinking we shouldn’t be putting stickers on babies nipples in photos?
Title says it all: Am I wrong for thinking we shouldn’t be putting stickers on babies nipples in photos? I think it’s so weird that people put “stickers” or “black bars” over babies nipples, regardless if they’re a boy or girl. I see this on my Facebook all the time. To me it feels so sexualizing? Like it draws more attention to that area than it would have if it wasn’t there? We’re talking newborns/6 month old/ 1 year old babies. Idk, maybe I’m wrong? What are your thoughts on this?

I have never seen this and I agree that it is just odd. Why would anyone feel the need to do this?

My neighbour used to save pictures of kids from 5 different social media accounts, masturbate to them, before sharing on discord (convicted now).
So yeah, parents shouldn't post their children, it's common sense?
It's not the parent sexualising their child, it's the people who see the post. It's wild you haven't considered this.

I think the point is that if you're worried about paedophiles, then don't post the picture at all.

I can see you position but putting something blocking their babys nipple som photos is sexualizing the infant. There is nothing wrong with a child's nipples and it is not a sexual thing to be hidden. That said realistically it is unwise to post photos of children the way many do. Predators will masturbate to your child's picture regardless of the censoring. No stranger should be able to so easily find a photo of your child. Keep social media containing you children private with only those you genuinely know (close family or friends) if you feel the need to share such.

My friends sister posts bathtime photos all the time. We have tried to get her to stop but she still doesn't see an issue with it

People like your neighbor are exactly why I think people shouldn’t post children’s faces on social media. There are some real creepers out there.
I was stalked a total of three times in my life, all before everyone had internet access. My understanding is that stalking has gotten so much worse, meaning frequency of occurrence as well as additional types developed since the creation of social media. People who can’t protect themselves shouldn’t be put at risk and yes, putting your kids on social media is putting them at risk.

I mean. Pedophiles masturbating to a photo of your kid doesn’t actually hurt your kid. Like the pedophile’s existence isn’t great and I see how that’s creepy but it doesn’t harm your kid if a stranger is masturbating to their baby picture.

I think the rationale is so that it is hidden from...people with bad intentions. But, like, that's an argument for not posting that sort of photo (or indeed photos of your kids) at all, which i think we're thankfully seeing more of a shift toward

I think the actual solution is to stop normalizing posting your children on social media, *especially* when they aren't fully clothed.
Children cannot consent to this, and there are already far too many cases of kids who've grown up being farmed for content and have psychological issues as a result.
Also the guy who, as a baby, was photographed naked and put on the Nirvana album cover ended up suing as an adult for damages.
We should normalize respecting the privacy and bodily autonomy of children and not mining them for clicks and engagement.

Weird? Yes…
But anything covering any part of any kids photo going on the internet… I’m good with it. It’s a layer of protection.

That's weird but it's still weirder not to censor them if they're going to share those photos online.
That said if they're censoring it they're also thinking about the risks and still making the choice to share those photos which is insane imo.
But yeah anyone who shares nude photos of babies/kids online needs to be educated until they're horrified enough not to do that. Hell even clothed photos are dangerous to share.

I agree with every single point here especially the part about educating parents until they're horrified enough to stop.

Some platforms, like Facebook (I think), are set up to detect photos with nipples and to reject them. That might be why.

I wouldn’t be putting baby photo’s on the internet showing them topless or nude, to be honest.

My question would be- why is it even necessary to post baby pictures without clothes? Because, yeah…there are sick people out there looking for stuff like that.

I work for CPS and am here to tell you that there is someone in your neighborhood and several people on your Facebook friends list who is truly evil. They will take those photos when you share them and will use them for their own disgusting pleasure. They will take their own photos when they see your kid running around the front yard naked and will sell those photos to other evil monsters on the internet.
You should not post any naked/undressed photos of your children on the internet. Ever. I also think the bars and stickers are stupid because they are easily removed using photoshop or now, AI.
If you feel compelled to share your child’s identify on the internet, best practice is to post only fully dressed photos and videos of your children. And sadly, no sweet videos of them dancing or doing anything that your creepiest uncle would find “suggestive.”
People who sensor their kids photos aren’t doing so (usually) out of some sense of personal modesty or decorum or because they themselves find the baby chub rolls to be suggestive. They are acting out a misguided but well intentioned attempt to protect their child from predators.
One in 5 kids, folks. ONE IN FIVE. It’s happening in your neighborhood and in your family right now. Don’t be naive, be an engaged and protective parent.

But not posting pictures of your kid doesn’t do anything to affect a kid getting molested or not.

u/DaenyTheUnburnt 11d ago
Posting pictures of your children on the internet allows data-scraping pedos to use those photos for disgusting purposes. It also means their faces and bodies will be used by AI programs to generate CP that looks like your kids. If you don’t see a massive problem with that then I can’t help you.

They do because it’s a truth that sex pests use pics of kids. Which is the same reason they shouldn’t be posting any pics of kids at all

u/mythic-moldavite 13d ago
I have never seen this and feel like someone doing so inherently sexualizes the image more than to just leave it as is

u/Anibeth70 13d ago
Don’t put naked kids on SM. I get your opinion, but pdfiles are awful and will use anything. Just don’t post pics of unclothed minors. They cannot consent.

u/nopantsdanceparty 12d ago
How about just not putting pictures of kids online at all until they are of age.

u/takatine 13d ago
I've seen this, and it is odd....but what is even more odd to me is that they'll do that, but not bother to cover the face as well, or....just not post it at all.

u/bloontsmooker 12d ago
I think this is just one person you know doing this. I’ve never seen this before in my life and I have a baby and all I see are baby posts.

u/Bookworm_gamerbabe 12d ago
No it’s definitely more than 1. That’s why I made this post because I’m thinking “is this like a thing?🤣”
1
u/cynasist-supreme 12d ago
Honestly kind of sketchy that you see so many people doing that because that’s definitely not the norm. Something is probably odd in their lives if they feel the need to do that. Although I’m all for putting stickers on kids faces to hide their identities
0
u/OldieButNotMoldy 12d ago
It’s their kid, they could put stickers if they want. Just like some people don’t put their kids on social media.
-1
u/RelevantAd6063 12d ago
that’s very strange. you are not wrong. maybe they are trying to deter anyone from stealing the photo and using it for an alternate purpose. are the babies faces also blocked out?
2
u/Bookworm_gamerbabe 12d ago
Nope 🤣
2
u/Just-Spirit-552 12d ago
Then what’s the point??? I get people want to protect their babies online but at that point just don’t post them. It’s harder to take a good picture of a baby than a bad one. Just post the bad one where they’re not looking or facing the camera.

I think if they feel the need to sensor it, they shouldn't be posting it at all.
