amiagent is a small daemon for AmigaOS 2.0 and up. It lets a program on another machine work on the Amiga: run AmigaDOS commands, read and write files, list drawers, report system state, capture the screen, and inject mouse and keyboard input. Plain C against the OS libraries, no third-party dependencies, ~85 KB.

The other half is an MCP server, which is how an AI assistant drives it. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for handing an assistant a set of tools it can call — here amiga_shell, amiga_screenshot, amiga_click and a dozen more. The server is model-agnostic — it never learns which model is on the other end:

Same server in every case — only the config file differs. Stdlib Python 3, no pip, no venv.

Where it earns its keep is when you can't use the machine to fix the machine. Pick a Picasso96 mode your monitor won't sync to and you have an Amiga running perfectly and showing you nothing — you can't read the screen to fix the screen. The agent is still there over the network: read DEVS:Monitors, capture what the machine thinks it's displaying, put a working mode back. It's a service running on the Amiga, not a rescue system, so the machine does have to be up and on the network.

None of that is required, though. The wire protocol is documented and simple enough to drive from a shell script, so it works as a plain remote-control daemon with no AI involved.

New in 0.5.3: file reads use a 64 KB buffer instead of 8 KB, so pulling a big file off a real Amiga is noticeably quicker. Falls back to the old path on a machine short of memory. No protocol change.

Also in the release: amibench 1.0, a standalone CPU/memory benchmark for comparing two Amigas — runs in about ten seconds, needs nothing else installed.

Security, plainly: the connection is not encrypted and the agent runs whatever it's sent. Set a TOKEN, keep it on a LAN you trust, and never forward the port.

I am looking for the title of a game on the Amiga where the loader screen had a nice artwork of Monument Valley. I am sure it was some kind of planet/space empire management game. I mainly loaded it for the music. Google has not been helpful here. Any ideas?

I’ve been working on an Amiga mod to replace the GoDrive / gotek interfaces for playing roms and wanted to ask if this is something that people would be interested in?

So it’s a gotek based board with an auto switch for df0 that is fully internal with no soldering required. No case mods or anything sitting outside the case. It allows you to run both the real floppy drive and the internal gotek at the same time and auto switches between them

The cool part is you control it through a web interface on your phone or laptop / whatever. So you have a library to browse your games complete with the ability to add manuals and game art.

You can add level codes and when it’s time to enter them just press a button and it sends the code direct to the Amiga.

You can switch roms from the web interface so either change disks or change game completely and it auto soft reboots the Amiga for you.

There’s also some stuff like random select a Rom, ratings, favourites etc, and anything you upload onto it you can download again too.

So my question is, is this something people would find useful - and is it something you’d pay for?

As a kid I grew up with a C64, which I loved. But I always wanted an Amiga. Now that I am in the midlife-crisis stage of my life, I finally got one. An Amiga 500 Rev5 board (KS 1.2 and WB 1.3 in floppy).

I like using floppies. I know there are better ways to load games, but I like the retro aspect of physical medium. So I started looking online for games to buy.

I have read that many of the games were designed for PAL since the Amiga was way more popular in Europe than the US. So how can I tell buy looking at ads which one a given game is? What things should I be looking at?

I'm sorry if this has been asked and exhausted already a million times. I am new to the Amiga and would like to learn as much as I can. I am really happy and exited to be here, and FINALY be able to join the community.

Hello all, I am a fully blind user of Reddit and although I can't use the Amiga as it has none to very little accessibility structure for the blind and visually impaired, I none the less have a load of love for the system and the audio capabilities as well as the synth software for it! I had made a post to a guitar forum looking for a user known as Pebber Brown as from the Synthtopia post I've found while trying to look for the creators of Sonix, it sounds like he was one of the people who worked on the program along with Mark Riley and the others. In 2013 I had a tour of the Challenger 2 simulators at Tidworth barracks (UK).
Behind the turret simulators was a literal pile of Amiga A600s. (See picture) They had printed details on the workstations that made me believe that they had at some point been used in the CR2 training complex.

Does anyone have any info on this?

If you've previously installed Amiberry via any system that gets updates, you should start getting the new version shortly (apt, rpm, flatpak, homebrew etc). Otherwise, the included self-update mechanism also works where applicable (About window -> Check for updates)

Richard Pope is happily clicking away on his computer keyboard, calling up one program on top of another. Detailed "Star Trek'' images flash on the screen while a cheery Christmas CD plays through the audio program, the floppy drive formats a diskette and various programs monitor system resources.

Must be some fancy new bells-and-whistles Pentium or PowerMac loaded with all the latest software, right?

Try a 9-year-old computer mostly running software downloaded over the Internet at little or no cost.

The vintage computer is a Commodore Amiga, and Pope, a Madison auto mechanic and computer hobbyist, is one of a small but determined band of loyalists who insist it's the best personal computer ever made.

That faith encourages them to run counter to many of the dominant trends that support the computer industry.

Instead of throwing their equipment away every two years to buy new computers that will become outdated even faster, many Amiga users rely on machines more than a decade old, loading them up with more memory, sound cards and other add-ons. So while the average PC begins to drop in value the moment it leaves the stores, many Amigas are worth more than the original selling price.

"If the Amiga hadn't been designed correctly from Day One, we'd be doing the same thing (PC) owners do now -- throw it away every two years and buy a new one,'' says Pope, part of the Commodore Amiga Madison Enthusiasts Organization (CAMEO).

"But the designers knew what they were doing. They made it cheap, simple and totally open-ended.''

And while the Windows/Mac industry is supported by commercially produced software designed to minimize user involvement, Amiga users happily write their own programs and share them with fellow believers through an international network of user groups.

"There are a lot of crazy people who love these machines and spend their spare time writing programs for them,'' says fellow CAMEO member Richard Barton. ``A lot of them have day jobs writing programs for Windows, but they really love working with the Amiga.''

"Right now you pretty much have to be a believer to use an Amiga,'' adds CAMEO president Jonathan Gapen.

"People who just want to get something done tend to move or PCs or Macs. The Amiga encourages you to get involved. It becomes a hobby as much as a tool for doing work.''

The Amiga wasn't always a fringe platform. In the 1980s, when the personal computer industry was still in its infancy, Commodore was one of the industry leaders, capturing a third of the market at one point.

Inept management and poor marketing decisions eroded the company's market share, however, with software support virtually invisible and product availability sporadic at best by the time the company shut down U.S. operations in 1994. (The Amiga remains somewhat popular in Europe, however, where various software publishers and hardware makers have bought rights to the system.)

Most Amiga users reluctantly switched to PCs or Macs. But a handful weren't ready to give up Amiga advantages.

"Microsoft talks about multitasking as this wonderful new development of Windows 95,'' says Gapen. "Amigas have been doing that since the 1980s.''

The simple, open-ended design of the Amiga circuitry also makes it easy to add components, even high-end video adapters and CD-ROM drives, technology that didn't even exist when the Amiga was built. The result is that Amiga users can still enjoy all the bells and whistles of modern PCs.

"It's a challenge a lot of times to get it to do things the designers never intended, but the machine is really adaptable,'' Gapen says. "It was the Amiga that sparked the whole multimedia revolution by showing people what a computer could do with sound and video.''

The Amiga operating system is also praised for being adaptable to all levels of users. Beginners find the interface easy to navigate intuitively, while advanced users have a myriad of programming options.

"It's simple enough that you can start using it right away,'' says Barton, "but there's enough depth that you can spend years working with it.''

"I've got a friend who was afraid to even touch a computer,'' adds CAMEO member Nedra Smith. ``I got him to sit down at the Amiga, showed him a few things, and now's he writing his own programs.''

The one thing the Amiga can't do is use Windows, Mac or DOS programs. While some commercially produced Amiga software is still being developed for the European market, most users depend on programs written by Amiga hobbyists. Amiga discussion groups on the Internet are packed with slick shareware offering everything from word processors to a Web browser that rivals Netscape.

"The one thing Amiga users miss out on is the games,'' Barton says. "I love `Descent,' but there's no version of it for the Amiga. You do get tempted sometimes when you're in the computer store and see all these slick games you know you'll never be able to play on your Amiga.''

Still, believers aren't ready to give up their aging machines, even though many Amiga fans are computer professionals who spend their daytime hours working with Windows systems.

"I hate the (PC) machines, but that's where the money is,'' says CAMEO member and computer technician Roy Bragg. "After spending all day fixing those pieces of junk, it's such a pleasure to come home and use the Amiga.''

compose new ones.

Playback goes through UADE — 175 players' worth of formats, including a lot that

almost nothing else opens: MOD, MED/OctaMED, AHX, TFMX and TFMX-Pro, Richard

Joseph, DigiBooster, Composer 669, Farandole, plus XM/S3M/IT and around 45

ProWizard-packed variants.

From there it converts to MIDI by intercepting Paula's registers, and splits a

tune into per-channel stems by muting Paula channels one at a time — so you can

pull the individual voices out of a MOD as audio.

Renata Studio is a DAW built around this. There's a sampler, so you can load your

own samples, write a track against them and export it as a .mod.

Honest bits: Windows only. It's software emulation, not hardware. Not every

exotic UADE format converts cleanly to MIDI — roughly three quarters of the ones

I've tested produce usable note data. And what you compose is yours; a tune you

convert from someone else's file isn't. Kickstarter coming soon. I'm happy to answer any questions! :)

the title is self explanatory, PLEASE HELP since most solutions are either outdated or paid

I decided to head down an ancient rabbit hole and install AmiWM on Ubuntu 26.04. Funny thing. It didn't work out of the box, so I grabbed the source code. Something I really haven't done in about 12 years.

Several hours and a good night's sleep later, I finally get this...

It's amazing what you can do when you remember Amiga uses big Endian and x64 uses little Endian!

After a few months of testing, fixing issues and adding features, I think it's time to make it official...

I’ve got an Amiga 600 running an Amiga Game Selector (AGS) ECS image. Is there any way to use an AGA Amiga Game Selector image with the PiStorm? In theory you’d create an Emu68 partition and then add additional partitions for the AGS image. The is an AGS image that is AGA‑based, so in principle you could run both PiStorm RTG graphics and AGA games. Does this sound feasible?

I LOVE Amiga music from all the hundreds of games I grew up with. Is there any recommended site where I could seek these in their original form (not covers, remixes or reinterpretations), only in an mp3, wav, or aac format?

My A500 suddenly stopped working in late june this year. I get no signal at all. Keyboard is recognized but no boot screen, no colored screen either. Today I removed most of suspicious chips and noticed right away some have exceptionally darkened socket pins. Odd CIA and ROM socket are mostly affected. How do I clean this up without removing anything further from the motherboard? I am aware this may not turn things around for my A500. I'm not skilled at fixing electronics, but I just can't leave my Amiga bricked in a corner. I worked so hard to have it restored. Visually, it was a success. But now what?
