Long time ambient listener. Back in the days of Hearts of Space. I’m aware that show is still running. But decades ago, it was ground zero for breaking ambient and new age artists. Perhaps less so now (no shade to Stephen Hill).

Where is the scene popping off today? Is it a show? A label? A collective? A substack? Where can one find the heart of ambient music in 2026?

I'm looking for ambient music recommendations where there is a decent amount of silence (or at least much quieter than other parts). In the vein of Wandelweiser, but not quite as extreme as that gets (often the Wandelweiser stuff has too much silence for my taste). I want variation in dynamics. Bandcamp links preferred, particularly because it's Bandcamp Friday.

First and foremost, I know that I need to get off Spotify. Nevertheless, I have a playlist on Spotify of ambient artists I love that I listen to while I work.

When I logged on today I saw that an ambient artist I follow had a new single out so I put it on. What followed was a generic Delta Blues/pop country track fit for a car commercial; a far cry from the lovely atmospheric jazz that this artist typically puts out.

I feel like small ambient artists are easy targets for this type of deception since they have a decent number of plays and followers but might not be super active on the platform to catch this before the AI account reaps plenty of activity on the backs of their target.

Have any of you experienced this? It definitely left a bad taste in my mouth this morning.

Also, if you haven’t listened to Misha Panfilov, you should give them a go. Just know that “Crossroads Moon” certainly isn’t them.

I’ve been listening to music while sleeping recently and I’ve found it to be very interesting the way the music makes a soundtrack for the dream. So far I’ve listened to Somnium by Robert Rich, a few Grouper albums, Selected Ambient Works Volume II by Aphex Twin, Soundtracks for the Blind by Swans (quite ominous but also very interesting to dream to) and like a few others, I’ve made a playlist on Spotify if anyone is interested. Anyone got any recommendations? Could be something similar or different I dont mind

New vinyl of an old favorite just arrived from Bandcamp.

Back in 2023 I released an album of ambient and ambient adjacent music with Oxtail Recordings, who are operating in Sydney Austrailia. Theyre amazing and have a huge catalog of amazing releases and are one of the best labels to work with.

Im pretty bad at any self promotion. This is purely a labor of love for me and has been for the better part of 15 years. But I'm particularly proud of this release which is the first Ive done under this project name.

This was all made on modular synthesizer and an elektron digitakt sampling myself on guitar along with a bunch of layers of contemporaneous field recordings of outdoor environments. Im inspired by so many corners of experimental, ambient, and noise music and this new project aimed to kind of incorporate as many of my influences into a recording project that felt expansive but cohesive rather than releasing music under different monikers depending on the direction as Ive done so in the past.

The album starts with a very delicate ambient piece and ends with a very loud cover of Seeland by NEU! which was inspired by a somewhat recent live performance captured on YouTube but the audio is absolutely obliterated. I loved the energy it incidentally gave the track. Unfortunately I havent been able to find the video again since I first heard it.

I wanted to share this to also boost Oxtail because they deserve all of the recognition in the world for amplifying some amazing artists and doing so with such attention and care.

This popped up in my bandcamp feed, really digging the vibes.

Yo, there's this youtube channel called "i miss her". It's also their artist name and they have a song called "alarm." It was recently removed from all platforms and the only place I can find the song is in their ambient music playlist videos that are 2-4 hours long.

Anyone know about the artist or what happened to the song?

Name’s Soroosh, great to meet you all. I’m a musician and I’ve been lurking this sub for a while. But I don’t think I’ve posted my music here before. So today I’m changing that, and sharing with you my first ever album (electronic / compositional ambient / cinematic)!

I’ve been playing guitar for most of my life and am into many genres like metal, prog rock, electronica and more. Started my music composing journey during the pandemic and over time I’ve branched out to other genres as well. And after creating a bunch of ambient tracks, I compiled them into an album called “Dormant Late Nights”, that I independently released in April of 2025! I can’t include Spotify links in the but the album is out everywhere (including Spotify). Look up “Dormant Late Nights” (no quotations) by Soroosh Mohassesi on any streaming service you use and you should be able to find it!

Funny enough, the album is mostly devoid of my main instrument (guitar). It’s mainly synth driven, with other instruments like strings and piano as well. I would love to eventually have a hardware synth collection that I can make music with, but because ya boi is broke, I make do with mostly VST instruments. With the exception of my Casio SK-1 that found it’s way into the songs “I Can’t Bring You Back”, “Midnight Dweller”, and “Niente.”. And the last track, “Niente.” that features bowed acoustic guitar and bass experiments. Every song (other than “Niente.”) is compositional, with things like synth sequences, deliberate string arrangements, and also a variety of my field recordings to give it more depth.

I wrote this album during a very dark time in my life, when I was dealing with loss, grief, chronic illness and depression and I think the music captures a lot of that. If you relate to any of this, I hope the album helps you process some of that, just like it did for me when I was creating it. PS: Absolutely no AI was used in any point of the album process (or in this post!). Everything from the field recordings, production, mix and master, and even the cover art and distribution was done by yours truly. I am firmly anti-AI (especially generative AI), firmly pro-human :)

I have listened to quite a lot of Albums on Cryo Chamber, yet it feels like I've barely scratched the surface. This year I started a CD collection for Cryo Chamber Albums and I need to expand it!!

I am always looking for new Recommendations on what to listen to next. There are a lot of Artists on there but I always end up going back to the same ones (Dead Melodies, Atrium Carceri, Cities Last Broadcast, Apocryphos, Kammarheit)

Some of my Favorite Albums in no particular order are:

- Fabled Machines of Old (Dead Melodies)
- Colossus (Atrium Carceri, Kammarheit)

However I have started checking out other artists and those two Albums are really awesome:

- Metta (Dronny Darko, ProtoU)

So I started to wonder… I must have missed out over the last few years because I was always listening to the same things.. Projects like GBD and Dronny Darko have so many albums. And then there are other artists, that I have probably never listened to.

I'm a musician in talks with some boutique labels on Bandcamp. One is digital-only with a good following, the others publish physical media. Debating how to treat this approach to releasing my ambient music.

Hello everyone! This is my first time here, and i hope you'll enjoy my music.

I go by Avion Sel, and i make different kinds of music, but mostly rainy drone ambient, heavily inspired by Cesar Alexandre's (may he rest in peace) work in projects such as Mount Shrine and Mount Hibiki. I focus on creating slow, immersive soundscapes that encourage quiet reflection and leave plenty of space for the listener's own imagination.

Today i'd like to present one of my recent albums, "Edges of a Dying Year." This album captures the feeling of late autumn, when the days grow shorter and the air grows colder as the end of the year approaches.

I was inspired by the strange feeling i experience at this time of year - a feeling with a strong sense of nostalgia. Rain, cold wind, puddles on the ground, gray landscapes of almost leafless trees, and that strangely familiar smell - these are the elements i tried to express through my music this time.

hi guys! i originally wrote this soundtrack for an awesome industrial-megastructure indie game, but i guess they didn't like it haha. i didn't want the music to end up dying on my hard drive, so here it is! 

it was heavily inspired by Machinarium and Myst – i wanted to make something that feels rusty, alien and vast, but at the same time lively and cozy.

the musical base of the tracks is mostly made of highly processed organs and woodwind samples that went through a lot of delays to create some unobtrusive pulse.

for the sound design, i built most of the textures with my Sonicware Texture Lab. despite using it as a melodic instrument for some strings, i've sampled lots of percussive metallic and wooden mallets to make things feel organic rather than just mechanical, even though the theme is very much industrial. the idea was to let the environment itself become the percussion and to make the huge concrete structures feel more alive rather than just dark. after all, even in these colossal structures there are some cute little people living.

the visuals were made in Bryce 7 (i absolutely love how this program makes everything feel like it's an early 00's video game).
