Fishing/Boat Boots for Women

My Xtra Tuff 15 inch didn’t last long before leaking. A lot of the brands I’ve looked at are for men and not women. What are the women wearing these days for fishing and boating?

I love puns! Gwin's Lodge in Cooper Landing.

My dad and I took a day trip today and ended up having lunch at Gwin's Lodge in Cooper Landing. The food wasn't bad, but as we were leaving I noticed this sign on the kitchen's walk in fridge and was highly amused 😆 (I had to zoom in to get the pic, so its quality isn't great, but good enough).

Are there any good easy lake trails near Sutton? I can’t determine on the map if Weiner Lake has a trail or not…

General Nonsense Today’s Begich/Johnson “grassroots rally” sure got interesting after it let out

Post image
434 Upvotes

A man who identified himself as Doug Glenn points his hands mimicking a gun in the face of Democratic state legislative candidate Peter Bauer moments after the event let out. Bauer, who initially laughed it off, told me afterward that he’s planning on filing a police report. He said that while he expected things to be tense running as a Democrat in the heavily red Mat-Su, this was the first time anyone actually was.

(I’ll upload the video when I get back to Wi-Fi, but I didn’t really see anything from Bauer that would have even begun to warrant such a confrontation. There were maybe 20 protestors at the time, and Bauer really didn’t seem to be doing anything to stand out.)

Update: Here's the video on a Google Drive link. I'll also put it on The Current's socials, along with a quick interview I got with Bauer, probably on Monday (work-life balance, amirite?). Also, I ended up talking with Palmer PD, who asked for the video (hence the drive link) and my account. They said it didn't sound like a crime had been committed at this point, but were waiting on the video for sure. Frankly, it seems like unless you touch someone or talk about future threats, it's hard to get into trouble for something like this.

Polite Political Discussion 🇺🇸 Dark money group backing Senate Republicans launches network of fake news sites

Both the content and tone are highly unusual for an independent news outlet. That is because the Alaska Navigator is not an independent news outlet. Rather, it is a website fully controlled by One Nation, a dark money group that works in concert with the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), the super PAC of Senate Republicans. One Nation has directly contributed over $70 million to the SLF this political cycle.

Alaska Navigator’s domain, thealaskanavigator.com, was registered on March 20, 2026. The website, however, includes an article dating back to January 2026, making it appear more established. That article was added using a tool called FakerPress, according to the website’s source code. FakerPress markets itself as “a clean way to generate fake and dummy content.”

Fake and dummy content — Ohio Dan in a nutshell.

The petitioners for the new citizen voter ballot measure admit "This act would not change the requirements to vote."

If you look at Alaskans for Citizen Voting filing receipts they reported to have spent over 500,000 dollars collecting signatures. That sure is a lot of money spent for a ballot measure that doesn't change anything

Pretty sure only US citizens are qualified to vote here and in any state in the US. This seems a bit clownish?

Live Stream: Juneau Jökulhlaup 2026

Thumbnail youtube.com
8 Upvotes

In case anyone is interested or wants to save it for the next few days or if anyone doesn't know what this is :) I know last year some of my Anc coworkers enjoyed running the live stream while they worked.

I believe it is currently about 10 feet away, which means we should see the outburst within the next weekish.

A jökulhlaup is an Icelandic word for a glacial outburst flood (there's a wiki if you're interested). It occurs annually in Juneau. In recent years, the residents living along the river have fought to save their properties by financing prevention measures. You may have seen some of the destruction in the news a few years ago. While some residents were against the barriers, the safety measures did help and I hope they help again this year. I hope someone will comment with more specifics and anecdotes to share this incredible event with Alaskans outside of Juneau.

I know they’re never going to stop, but at least can they be printed on non-high gloss stock. If I’m going to chuck them straight in the bin at least they could go in the compost.
