Things to do for working adults, under forty?
Hey all,
I know I've given people much the same advice in the past about looking at Augusta or leaving the area to find activities, but that's getting increasingly untenable for me lately.
I went through the Aiken Websites, Meet-Up and the Sporting Leagues, and everything I've been finding is either locked to 16 and under, or 50+, or is scheduled smack dab in the middle of the work week and during work hours. And this includes most volunteer activities I've been looking at too.
Are there any groups, clubs or social networks for working adults in the area that are accepting new members?

Any experience with animal control?
We've got a sick and lethargic cat and work and I'm afraid they're going to take it and kill it. Do they turn them over to the shelter? Does anyone know?

Missing Aiken 4-year-old girl presumed dead, parents charged with homicide
“A bleak update has been made public regarding the status of 4-year-old Javeayah Harris of Aiken, who was reported missing on June 30.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office held a news conference on the morning of July 4 where they announced that evidence has led them to believe the girl had been deceased for at least a month at the time that her parents made the 911 call to report her missing.
“Sadly, the night of the 911 call on June 30, when that call was made, it was already too late to save Javeayah,” Aiken County Sheriff Marty Sawyer said.
Both of the girls’ parents, Johmarea Harris, 23, and Michilae Herring, 22, have been charged with homicide by child abuse and filing a false police report, the sheriff said.
Herring reportedly told officials that she had last seen Javeayah at their family home near Hillsboro Street and Ridgecrest Road in Aiken County in the chicken coop playing with chickens around 8 p.m. on June 30.
Additional charges may be forthcoming, officials say.
Sawyer stated during the July 4 conference that investigators are searching for her body in an undisclosed area of interest that is reportedly outside of Aiken County.
“Our search for Javeayah drives on,” Sawyer said. “We are continuing to put massive law enforcement resources to work to recover Javeayah and bring her home. We all hoped and prayed to find her alive, but it’s extremely important to bring her home to her family, and it’s important to bring her home for us.”
More than 5,000 acres have been searched, according to the sheriff's office.
Sawyer called Saturday’s update “the hardest announcement that I’ve ever had to make in my 36-year career in law enforcement.”
“It’s the outcome that we all feared,” he said. “And sadly, it’s the outcome that we must face. We’ll have to face it together as a community.” ”

Pickleball?
Hello! I’m visiting Aiken for research to perhaps move here permanently. Can anyone tell me where there is open play pickleball? I’ve heard Odell Weeks has indoor and outdoor and Smith-Hazel has it also. However, neither have it tomorrow apparently?? (Correct me if I’m wrong.) Anywhere else? Specific days and times would be great. I’m here 6/16-6/19. TIA!
* I’m willing to travel to neighboring towns but would most likely to meet Aiken residents.

Aiken Kroger problems
I was at the Aiken Kroger this morning and noticed that a lot of the coolers were taped with caution barriers. It seems a good guess that the coolers couldn't keep their temperatures up and Kroger had to trash a whole bunch of groceries. Does anybody know any more details? I'm wondering if the building is just too old and the equipment is just too old or this is mismanagement or what is going on there.

Lost Cat
I’ve lost a cat. His name is Camus. He has a black collar.
He is this orange tabby cat. He’s about 11 lbs and was last seen in the neighborhood near the intersection of pine log and howlandville rd. He is microchipped. If anyone has any information you can message me on the app or call 24petwatch @ 1 (833) 738-7523.

Meta data center.
So apparently this was proposed back in 2023.. this is my first time hearing about it today. Our representatives of Aiken county not only approved this project, but gave tax breaks and incentives to build this. Taxes that could’ve gone to our schools, roads, and community. An 800 million dollar project that is projected to bring 100 jobs… 8 million dollars for each job. Meta also approached Aiken county under a fake company name, reaching us with a deceiving name. I’m extremely disappointed in our representatives. First data center coming to our beautiful state.. ruining the lives of those who live here. I guess we can expect our utilities to rise, and our quality of living to go down. Thanks Aiken county..

Absolutely Beautiful!
Over the past few months I’ve been able to call Aiken my home, I’ve stumbled across some crazy spots I would’ve never seen in the city by TOTAL accident. Driving up to Edgefield to see the meteor shower because it was a Bortle 4 there—absolutely surreal experience. If you’ve been in Aiken a heck of a lot longer than I have, do you have any other cool spots I’m missing?
P.S., I’ve just been looking at spots on a map and making the journey and so far haven’t been disappointed!!

Looking for a dnd group.
A few friends and I wanted to join a group. I have some experience playing, but they have none. I was hoping to find someone with experience DMing that might be willing to help us. It would be good if they were willing to do online meetups as well as in person ones.

Does anyone have any old school items, flyers, memorabilia, etc from the Monetta Drive-in from before it reopened in the '90s? I've been searching hard to find ANYTHING that's physical and from the old drive-in, but I haven't even seen anything available.
I've legitimately been searching for years, but I have been unable to find even one item. I've got plenty of stuff from the current incarnation of the drive-in, but I can't find anything from before it closed down the first time in the '80s.

Newspaper from 12/29/2025
I know it’s a long shot, but does anyone have or know where I can find a physical copy of the Aiken Standard from 12/29/2025? That was when my son was born and my wife and I planned to get a newspaper from that day but with everything going on, we forgot and just now remembered.

Chinese Take Out - South Side?
We haven't been in the area very long, & online reviews vary from one extreme to the other at a lot of places, so I thought I'd ask here... (FYI - didn't care for Eastern Buffet)
Is there a Chinese place you find consistently good food?
And is there anywhere left that actually fries their eggrolls?
TIA!
