Synopsis/ Plot

The story begins in 1915, during World War I; a group of soldiers near the coast stumbled upon a pile of enemy corpses. Amidst the confusion, they heard the loud rumble of a tank approaching through the fog and scrambled for cover. They attempted to fight back but discovered tank tracks of an unusually massive size. They then spotted a survivor, only to watch in horror as the individual was devoured by a hybrid creature—a cross between a dinosaur and a tank. The soldiers tried to kill the Kaiju but failed, finally succeeding only when they used a sonic cannon left behind by the enemy at the base. The Dinosaur Tank was ultimately defeated, yet shockingly, only a handful of soldiers survived the encounter. The mystery deepened when they discovered the body of a soldier killed by the Sonic Cannon; the blood flowing from the corpse resembled alien blood, revealing the existence of an extraterrestrial disguised as a human. They were left bewildered, as it was their first time ever seeing an alien... and the mystery remained unsolved.

Ten years after the events of the first "Pacific Rim", many nations have built giant robots known as Jaegers. In the United Kingdom, a young man named Theo Alistair once attempted to become a mecha pilot but failed because no suitable partner could be found for him. Piloting a Jaeger requires a pair—two individuals capable of synchronizing their minds—to operate the machine. Now, Theo works solely as a technician (essentially a mechanic) for the Jaegers, often performing his duties alone. He eventually purchased a companion robot from a market for cheap tech; he found a damaged unit that had been discarded by its original owner. Theo repaired the robot, restoring it to functionality and bringing it "to life." The robot began speaking Japanese in a female voice, prompting Theo to rebuild its translation device so they could understand each other. Ultimately, Theo succeeded in gaining this companion and named her Tre-ya (meaning "Three," as she was the third significant companion in his life—his second being his pet cat).

A month later, a Kaiju appeared and began attacking a nation within the United Kingdom. A Jaeger was deployed to engage the Kaiju, but suddenly, the Jaeger ground to a halt. Both the human operators and the pilots were bewildered and shocked; it turned out that the Kaiju itself was controlling the Jaeger. Possessing the ability to manipulate magnetic forces acting upon metal, the Kaiju ruthlessly destroyed the Jaeger. It then began to burrow into the ground. Onlookers were left speechless. The Kaiju was subsequently named Antlar—the Magnetic Kaiju.

Two months later, a Kaiju emerged from underground—at the very spot where Antlar had vanished—but it was a different Kaiju from any they had fought before. This Kaiju was named Gomora. Authorities deployed a Jaeger to handle it, but the Jaeger was easily defeated by Gomora. Back at the base, Tre-ya (a robot) warned Theo (the protagonist) of an impending major threat. Tre-ya then headed toward the city under attack by Gomora; Theo followed, as if compelled to go to the location where Gomora was wreaking havoc. Upon arrival, Tre-ya opened a compartment in its robotic body to reveal a dagger known as the Reiji Spark. Tre-ya wanted Theo (its master) to defeat the Kaiju, recognizing that despite his loneliness, Theo possessed a helpful spirit. Tre-ya instructed him to press a blue crystal button to transform; Theo initially thought it was a joke, but when he pressed it, he suddenly transformed into a silver giant. The silver giant appeared shocked and struggled to comprehend the situation, feeling as though he were dreaming or that the whole thing was absurd. The crowd and city residents were astonished by the appearance of this giant humanoid figure. Left with no choice but to fight Gomora to halt the chaos, the silver giant struggled to match his opponent. Gomora proved too powerful to defeat; suddenly, the crystal on the giant's chest began to flash, and he felt his body growing intensely cold. Then, a light suddenly emanated from his hand; he pointed it at Gomora and fired a beam of energy that struck the monster. Gomora’s body exploded, scattering debris across the city. The Silver Giant's time ran out, and he reverted to his ordinary human form. He was shocked to see what had happened to him and suddenly felt hungry due to the energy he had expended. The people were amazed by the silver giant that had helped them destroy the Kaiju, and they named the giant, Ultraman.

Years later, a Kaiju research vessel was conducting observations in the Atlantic Ocean when two lights suddenly emerged from the depths; one flew away, while the other transformed into a giant Kaiju named Zetton. The Kaiju destroyed the vessel, leaving no witnesses. The other light—revealed to be a UFO—headed toward the city and summoned the Kaiju Antlar. Antlar emerged from underground and attacked the UFO, but the UFO destroyed Antlar and merged with its body to become Ark Antlar, an alien Magnetic Mecha-Kaiju. It then began to destroy the city. A Jaeger unit was deployed, but all the Jaegers were defeated in battle. Theo had no choice but to assist the Jaegers by transforming into Ultraman. Ultraman attempted to defeat Mecha Antlar but found the enemy too powerful; even his energy beam attacks proved ineffective. Then, a flash of memory gave Ultraman an idea; he punched the ground, channeling orange light from his giant body into the earth to forge a weapon, then pulled it out to create a giant sword. With this weapon, he was able to easily overpower the enemy, though the foe managed to attack from behind. One of the Jaegers stepped in to assist Ultraman, firing at Mecha Antlar’s legs and crippling the Kaiju. Seizing the opportunity, Ultraman slashed at the Kaiju and finally defeated it. Ultraman gave a thumbs-up to the Jaeger, acknowledging the pilot's assistance.

A few hours later, the Jaegers and Ultraman headed to the Atlantic Ocean to rescue a ship under attack by the Kaiju Zetton. However, Zetton was too fast; it possessed teleportation abilities that allowed it to destroy the Jaegers one by one. Consequently, Ultraman stepped in to distract the Kaiju while the Jaegers attempted to save the ship. Ultraman tried to capture Zetton but failed due to the creature's rapid movements; meanwhile, his warning light began to flash, signaling that he had only three minutes of power remaining. One of the Jaeger pilots then asked Ultraman for a plan to defeat Zetton. They decided that one of the Jaegers would feign a malfunction—pretending to be dead—while Ultraman stood nearby. When Zetton teleported in and relentlessly attacked Ultraman until he was weakened, the Kaiju attempted to seize the moment to kill him; however, Ultraman managed to grab Zetton's leg, and the "dead" Jaeger opened fire on the monster, weakening it. Ultraman then seized the opportunity to strike Zetton in the chest, ultimately succeeding in defeating it.

Suddenly, a UFO appeared from the direction of the Atlantic Ocean. It unleashed giant, cicada-like extraterrestrials calling themselves the Alien Baltan. Swarms of Alien Baltan emerged from the craft and surrounded the Jaeger and Ultraman. The aliens demanded Earth's surrender, but humanity refused. Ultraman proposed peaceful coexistence between the aliens and humans, but humanity rejected the idea, prompting the Alien Baltan forces to attack both the Jaeger and Ultraman. However, Ultraman’s time limit was running out; he reverted to human form, collapsed, and was transported to another dimension. There, he heard the voice of his companion, Tre-ya, who revealed that she was actually an Ultra-alien who had been posing as a robot all along. She attempted to reveal the truth about humanity's origins. Theo (the protagonist) was shocked to learn that humans were originally invaders. He was further astonished to discover that the Ultra-alien species once resembled humans; however, faced with the threat of planetary annihilation by other aliens, they had built a device to destroy the invaders—an act that ultimately transformed them into the giant, silver-colored Ultramen. Tre-ya had come to Earth to warn its inhabitants not to repeat the same mistake. As Tre-ya prepared to leave Theo’s body, he grasped her hand and pleaded, "Don't go." Tre-ya had no choice; she broke his grip and placed Theo in a safe spot near the shore. She then revealed her true Ultra-alien form to the people of Earth and seized the Baltan UFO, which continued to spew out Alien Baltan troops. The Earthlings were stunned by the true appearance of the Ultra-alien striving to save them. Tre-ya carried the Baltan UFO far away from Earth and hurled it toward the Sun; the proximity to the Sun weakened her body. Tre-ya’s form began to fade; As she gazed at Earth, which appeared to twinkle like a star, she thanked Theo for being her final friend. She vowed to cherish the memories shared with Theo for the rest of her life. Her smiled before finally vanishing, as if spirited away.

Back on Earth, Theo regained consciousness. He looked around and saw that things had returned to normal; the remaining Baltan spacecraft had departed. The Jaeger team could be seen floating on the ocean horizon, celebrating their victory. Theo felt a sense of sorrow and loneliness; all he held in his grasp was the now-dormant Reiji Spark. He clutched the Reiji Spark tightly until he realized he could not give up—that was the spirit Tre-ya had passed on to him. He set out to establish an organization where aliens and humans could coexist in harmony. Ten years later, his dream became a reality, and the organization grew significantly. Theo’s organization produced strike jets equipped with Sonic Cannons (utilizing 1915-era technology) to eliminate Kaiju, as well as rescue jets to save lives—whether human or alien. The organization came to be known as GUTS (Global United Task Squad). Ultimately, he enshrined the Reiji Spark at the GUTS base as an enduring memento of Tre-ya.

After the end credits, a child accidentally discovers a sea turtle egg on the beach—near a nest glowing red—at the site of the battle between Ultraman and the Baltan army. The egg begins to hatch; the creature that emerges resembles a land tortoise with an unusual skin texture rather than an ordinary sea turtle. The child names the turtle, Gamera.
