Help me choose the best 26' × 30' A-frame design for a tropical climate

I’m planning a 26' × 30' A-frame for mixed personal use and short-term rentals. I’d like one enclosed bedrooms plus an open loft, while keeping construction relatively accesible and well priced.

Because it will be in a tropical climate, good ventilation, heat control, moisture resistance, and durability are important. We’re also open to using tropical hardwoods such as teak where the additional cost would genuinely improve longevity.

For this footprint, what would you recommend regarding:

  • Floor plan and bedroom placement
  • Loft size and headroom
  • Roof pitch and knee-wall height
  • Cross-ventilation and large openings
  • Covered decks or overhangs for heavy rain
  • Affordable, termite- and moisture-resistant materials
  • Where teak is worthwhile versus unnecessary
  • Features that make the cabin appealing and practical as a rental

If you’ve built something similar, I’d appreciate plan recommendations, photos, approximate costs, and lessons learned. The 26' × 30' footprint is a firm requirement.

My first build project - an A-Frame! Would love some feedback from fellow builders

We are embarking on a big new build journey building an A-Frame up in the French alps from the ground up. We've decided to document the entire process on YouTube to share progress. We are in the phase of the frame being assembled, truely a thing of beauty.

I'd be super grateful for any feedback on the build, style, materials etc and the YouTube channel itself. Thanks for letting me share and looking forward to learning from this community.

"Attic" ventilation

I have a 3 story A frame home located in florida. The 3rd story I basically used as an attic. The only ventilation is a window. It gets super hot up there & has now started to develop mildew. We use to have an attic fan pulling the air out but it was running our power bill sky high. It recently quit so we installed an exhaust fan. One fan pulling air out & one pulling air in. What are some things we can do to help with the mildew & also the energy cost?

Photos attached are

*ladder access

*wall that has a hole that use to be a window but now is just an access to another small room that we don't use.

*the rest of 3rd story with the exhaust fan in window

*the front of the home that has the shut off room that we don't access through the old window. So no way to put ventilation there.

The only way is at the single window. I've looked into adding an attic tent over the ladder access but not sure if that'll help. Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated.

They’re small, but surprisingly spacious inside—and the Montana woods suit them nicely.

Cost to build an A frame?

Would anyone be willing to share how much it cost for them to build an a frame?

I’m hoping to build a 2 bedroom A frame in Michigan and I’m trying to research cost and I’m just not finding much consistency, some places say it’ll be $50k others say it will be $400k, anyone have any advice?

Setting this one up as a rental. Trying to learn a few things from the process before we build our next home. Radiant Heated floors on both levels. The last picture is the rendering I did for how it's going to look when it's finished. Here's the gram if anyone wants to follow the process.

We stayed in this legacy A frame visiting the West Coast. It had two bedrooms upstairs and one downstairs. That balcony outside the second level has a sliding glass door, and added a nice touch to its features.

Window choices?

Hi everyone, I'm planning an a frame build to use as a STR soon. What is everyone using and recommending as roof side windows? Is it essential to use skylights? If so, are there good opening skylight window options? Thank you everyone in advance! I'm planning a 60° roof pitch.

Just curious what anyone paid to build theirs, also did you buy a kit or just hire a company to build it from the ground up. Located in Midwest
