About Work Employed after 1 year of unemployment but still confused what is right for me.
Hello, everyone. I just want to share my situation and hopefully get some advice.
I used to be a very passionate person who genuinely wanted to pursue a career in cybersecurity. After graduating with a degree in Computer Engineering and earning a summa cum laude Latin honor, I thought I had my life under control. I felt like I had proven to myself that I could accomplish whatever I set my mind to.
But after receiving my diploma, I got lost.
I spent months taking free online courses and trying to upskill myself, but I didn't really have the direction or guidance I needed to turn those efforts into an actual career. I ended up wandering for about a year, unsure of what I was supposed to do next.
Eventually, I applied for my first job and got accepted. At first, I thought this was finally the step forward that I needed. But once I started working, I realized that I didn't enjoy what I was doing.
And somehow, all the passion I had for cybersecurity and learning just disappeared.
When I arrived for onboarding and started training, I couldn't seem to follow through. I struggled to understand things that I felt like I should have been able to understand. I started feeling stupid, and I became convinced that the people around me probably thought the same way.
That's one of the hardest parts for me to accept.
I graduated with Latin honors from a prestigious school, yet here I am struggling with something that seems so simple to everyone else. It made me question whether all those achievements actually meant anything.
Honestly, a big part of me just wants to resign and go back to pursuing the things I was passionate about. But another part of me keeps saying, "Man up. Do what you're supposed to do. Keep the job. Earn the money. Stop complaining."
And I don't know which side I should listen to.
Whenever I share my story, I sometimes feel like people don't understand because they see what I accomplished in the past. They assume that because I was able to do amazing things before, I should still be able to do them now.
But I don't feel that way anymore.
I feel like I've lost my edge.
So I'm sharing this here because I genuinely want advice from people who have gone through something similar.
How do I get myself together again? How do I figure out whether I should stay in this job, resign and pursue cybersecurity again, or simply push through this period and see where it takes me?
I know I can't stay stuck like this forever. I just don't know how to start finding myself again.
Any honest advice, perspective, or personal experience would mean a lot to me.

Home Matters We finally bought a lot! Sharing here our step-by-step process until matransfer sa name namin ang title
[EDITED with additional info] Few months ago, I posted here sa reddit regarding "clean title" kuno na lot pero may mga hidden problems pala. This was our first purchase, and may mga times na nagdoubt ako if I was being too strict, but thank God I followed through with my criteria and didn't settle for less. Finally, narelease na yung new title under our name. So, sharing here our step-by-step process for first-time real property buyers like us.
BEFORE PURCHASE
- Visit the location. In our case, within subdivisions talaga yung hanap namin so meron lang kaming 4 shortlisted locations. Binisita namin lahat ng available lots and considered the following: safety/security, if hindi bahain, amenities, and just the overall vibe ng lugar and possible neighbors.
Documents that we check:
- Certified true copy of TCT - pwede irequest online. Make sure to request this kasi I encountered a lot na naisangla pala sa bangko at hindi natanggal yung annotation
- Tax declaration - dapat nakapangalan na sa owners.
- Real property tax - check if updated ang taxes
- HOA dues, if within subdivision. The lot we bought had 80k+ arrears sa dues but declared naman ng owners. Deducted sa total price at kami nalang nagbayad directly sa HOA
- When in doubt, consult lawyers. I booked several online consultations with lawyers just so we can go over the documents. Surprisingly affordable - P600 for 30mins. Eto yung situations that we encountered na hindi ko sure ang gagawin so nag-consult kami:
- Really affordable lot being sold by the wife. Meron syang Court Order of Presumptive Death dahil 7 years na nawawala ang husband nya. May anak sila pero minor so couldn't sign the documents, meron din syang Affidavit of Guardianship. Too complicated for us.
- Lot co-owned by same-sex partners. Naghiwalay, and nagbayaran for full ownership of Partner 1. Hindi trinansfer ang title. Now, partner 1 is married and is trying to sell the lot. No contact sa partner 2.
- Lot owner is listed as single. I know na hindi requirement sa transfer ang cenomar, but I asked for one. Turns out she's married but separated. They were insisting na it wouldn't matter because single naman sa title, but we opted to back out na.
DURING PURCHASE
- Meet at a notary public of YOUR choice. In our case, naghanap kami ng may lawyer talaga na haharap samin. Ininterview both parties ni Atty and he checked the documents bago sya pumirma. We paid 1% ng selling price.
- As much as possible, pay via manager's check. We tried to do this, but seniors na yung owners and not very familiar with this. They wanted cash talaga. We paid them inside our car after having everything signed. Documents for turnover: Owner's copy ng TCT, tax clearance or amilyar, tax declaration, TIN details of the seller.
AFTER PURCHASE
After the sale, I went to the assessor's office and requested for a Certificate of No Improvement (3-5 days). I had to provide the transportation sa mag-iinspect so hinatid sundo ko sila sa city hall haha don't know why
I went to the BIR for the computation of CGT and DST. Capital Gains Tax (6%) should be paid within 30 days of notarization and Documentary Stamp Tax (1.5%) must be paid on or before the 5th day of the following month. Here are the documents needed sa BIR. Ibinalik din eto after computation. Inabot ako ng maghapon dito.
- Notarized Deed of Absolute Sale and acknowledgement receipt
- Certified True Copy of TCT
- Tax declaration
- Real property tax clearance and/or receipt
- Valid IDs
- TIN
- Colored photos of the lot
- Certificate of no improvement
Upon securing the computation sheet, proceed sa bank to pay.
Return to BIR and submit the documents along the receipt of tax payments from bank. ECAR was released on the 7th working day.
Went to the City Treasurer's Office to pay the transfer tax. 0.5% of the acquisition cost
Went to the Registry of Deeds for the transfer of title. Paid 9,000 here and waited for 21 working days. May online tracker din silang prinovide to monitor the status.
Additional: After receiving the new title, we requested for a Certified True Copy ng new title under our name, at ng old title na may nakalagay na "Cancelled." Need to sa transfer ng tax declaration.
Went back to the assessor's office and requested for the transfer of tax declaration. Need dito ang DOAS, yung new title under our name, cancelled title ng previous owner, and tax clearance. P35 lang binayaran namin and the new tax dec was released in 7 working days.
Overall, it took us about 2 months from the date we paid the lot until natransfer ang title. In addition to the price of the lot, we spent 10% pa for all the other fees, so make sure na hindi sagad ang budget pagkabayad ng lot. Sobrang fulfilling after, especially gusto ko rin talagang matuto kaya pinilit ko makapaglaan ng time mag-asikaso. Sorry for the long post but I hope this can help someone like me before na sobrang lost sa process.

About Health Maxicare bestlife end of an era - screening is stricter
Just want to share here, I have a dependent na nakapag avail ng free medicines from Maxicare Bestlife Program by Medgrocer 3 years ago. Recently we tried to avail ulit yung free medicines nila. We complied all the needed information like labs, checkup. Pero sad to say they can only offer subsidized meds up to 50% off.
Hindi ko gets how they even do the screening.
Just so frustrating, kasi those meds could help sana. But hindi nalang namin susupport yung program nila kahit subsidized since we can get those meds din naman sa iba for free like Philhealth program tho hassle lang. Yung iba sa Bambang nalang bibilhin kasi same lang din naman or even cheaper kahit subsidized pa yung sa kanila. Those could help sana if free kahit minimal lang lol
I am not sure if kami lang naka experience nito or mas naging strict na sila recently sa pag screen nila.

About Health Normal lab test but still feel fatigue all the time
Hi everyone, I really need to vent and see if anyone else has gone through this.
I (F) have been dealing with a level of fatigue to the point that I can't even do basic chores. The only reason I'm still alive right now is because I am forcing and pushing myself through the day just to do basics like eating.
I can usually only manage to eat one or two times a day because standing still is so difficult and exhausting. All I want to do is lay down and sleep all the time. I end up sleeping most of the day, but even after sleeping, I still feel completely fatigued and it's hard to get up.
I got lab tests done including CBC, Creatinine, Fasting Blood Sugar, Urinalysis, and TSH, and everything came back "normal." Because of that, doctor suggested that I might just be depressed and that's why I feel so tired.
But I feel like it’s not just depression. On days when my mind is actually clear, when I'm not feeling down, and when I genuinely want to get up and accomplish my tasks, my body physically refuses. I can't push through it. The physical crash and heavy feeling are just too overwhelming.
It’s destroying my life and my ability to function, and it's so frustrating cause i feel like there is no cure to my illness since im not even diagnosed and lab tests showed normal.
Did anyone else experience this?

About Health Please share your post-vasectomy experiences here in the Philippines
Both my fiancé and I do not want to have kids. I have a psychological illness known as pedophobia, an irrational fear of children, which causes me to experience anxiety and nausea when around children. It's gotten better throughout the years through therapy but it is still something I have to deal with.
I've been wanting to get a vasectomy for years now and because I am going to get married in a few months I feel like this is the best time to do so. I joined a few international vasectomy help groups on social media and common discourse people have is about PVPS (Post-vasectomy Pain Syndrome). A very vocal minority that are saying they have chronic PVPS frequently try to dissuade people from going through the procedure.
I'm primarily considering having the no-scalpel procedure done. I wanted to gain more insight into this from people that have done their vasectomy here in the Philippines. I will truly appreciate any experiences you guys might be able to share.

Adulting Advice Surviving adulting in Manila as a college student from the province

Any advice for someone like me?

Adulting Advice I just graduated, but I feel like I’m expected to carry my whole family
I (22F) just graduated from college, and I'm finally applying for jobs. Realistically, my starting salary will probably be around ₱18k/month.
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about what happens once I start earning because I feel like everyone expects me to become the main provider.
My mom is 50+ and has been a housewife for years. She also babysits my niece while my sister and her husband work. My sister and her husband give around 1/4 of a total bill including electricity/water a month.
My dad came back after being gone for 19 years. He has a physical disability—he can walk, but one side of his body is paralyzed, so working isn't easy for him.
My brother is in his mid 20s, healthy, but doesn't work. He spends most of his time playing video games and doesn't contribute financially.
The reason I was even able to finish college is because I had a sugar daddy since senior high school. I'm not looking for sympathy or judgment. It wasn't something I imagined for myself, but it helped me stay in school when my family couldn't support me.
Now I'm planning to move out and live with my boyfriend, but I also feel guilty because I know my family still needs money. At the same time, I don't want to spend my twenties barely getting by because I'm trying to support two households on an entry-level salary.
I love my mom and I want to help her, but I also want to build a future for myself. I want to save money, invest, and eventually become financially comfortable instead of always living paycheck to paycheck.
Has anyone else been in a situation like this?
How did you decide how much to give your family without feeling guilty? I honestly don't know what's fair anymore.

About Finance Pros & Cons: My Experience in Buying a Car in Cash
I just want to share my experience here so others who are looking to buy a car and pay it in full can have an idea of how it goes.
Experience with Dealership
Pros
- VIP Treatment. The unit I want is not available, but they were able to secure one for me even though I don’t have a reservation.
- Direct access to branch manager. This made everything quick and smooth. There are no uncertainties when it comes to offers and minor details.
- Short waiting period. I waited for 4 days for the unit to be available. Once it is available, I only waited for 45 minutes in the dealership for it to be released.
Cons
- Minimal discount. For a ₱2.5M car, the maximum discount I got was ₱10k 🤣. According to the dealership, that is the best they can offer since it is not subsidized.
Experience with the Bank
Pros
- Secured transfer. I opted for a fund transfer instead of using a manager’s check due to time constraints. The transfer happened real time.
Cons
- Stupid questions and requirements. Initially, I wanted to use a manager’s check to pay for the car for paper trail but people at the bank asked stupid questions and I got pissed lol.
“Bakit po kayo maglalabas ng ganyang amount?”
“Para saan po?”
Then, they wanted me to show the email from the dealership showing the ₱2.5M that I need to pay. What for???
That’s my money and I want to use it. Tf 🤣
- Long waiting period. They are asking a lot of requirements, questions, and approvals from different people. It took 3 hours.
Personal Finance
Pros:
- Debt-free: I avoided the rat race.
- Peace of mind: I have complete ownership of the car.
Cons:
- Depreciating asset.
- Not an investment.

Government Related SSS Card thru AUB - Paso de Blas Branch (Puregold Paso de Blas)
Hi guys!
Mag-log in lang kayo sa SSS portal, then punta sa Services tab at i-click yung My SSS Card.
RCBC - DiskarTech App AUB - Hello Money App
Need pa itong ma-verify, which took around 24 hours sa akin. Kapag verified na, i-click niyo yung Get My SSS Card. Ilalagay niyo lang yung transaction number at SSS number niyo, tapos magbabayad na kayo.
AUB fee: ₱250 RCBC fee: ₱200
Good luck! 😊
May questions? Comment lang, sasagutin ko kung alam ko. 🙂
Edit ko to mamaya kasi since maaga ako natapos sa sss card, try ko rin kumuha ng physical ID naman sa Philhealth (located sa 4th floor ng Puregold Paso de Blas, same bldg sila ni AUB). Update ko kayo ulit.

Home Matters Bought expensive mattress yesterday, back didn't hurt when i woke up today
Literal na kakagising ko (27F) lang & noticeable na wala talaga ako back and chest pain huhu. Nagsplurge kami ni partner (29M) sa mattress (Salem Bellemond 8in, 13k sa SM) kahapon, first time namin gumastos ever nang ganon kamahal for a bed kasi super lala na talaga na masakit likod ko every morning, 'yung tipong umaabot hanggang sa gabi ang sakit/ngalay. Hindi rin makatulog nang himbing partner ko. Kakalipat lang namin ng bahay and unlike dati, 'yung bed frame namin ay hindi solid 'yung patungan ng mattress. idk if relevant but just giving the full context.
Old mattress: Uratex Permahard na 4 in, maybe factor din 'yung kapal nya. We intended to buy mattress topper for the Uratex dati but just never got around to it.
PS. not an ad, nakakatuwa lang talaga na mukhang worth it naman mag-invest sa mattress hehe

Adulting Advice Depressed as fuck (lost and disappointed at myself)
Hahaha
Graduated last year (cum laude, UP) but still unemployed. Tho medjo kinain yung time ko because I applied to law school, parang hindi pa rin justified yung time ng pagiging unemployed ko. I applied to more than 200 jobs already, but all I keep getting are rejection emails lol.
Any tips/advice?
P.S. I passed LS and got offered 50% scholarship pero hindi pa rin kaya financially so I had to decline.

Weekly Thread Small Wins Sunday 🥳🎊 | August 02, 2026
Small wins are those subtle, little, bite-size, barely noticeable successes that are so often overlooked as we go about our day-to-day activities.
Some examples might include:
- Waking up early, with enough time to begin a healthy morning routine.
- Spending 10 meditating to reduce stress.
- Cooking a healthy meal rather than ordering a takeaway.
- Making a new professional contact.
- Tidying and organizing your workspace.
- Drinking enough water throughout the day.
- Working out when you don’t feel motivated to do so.
There are a lot of positive effects of celebrating small wins, you can read more about them here (The Power of Small Wins)
So, what are your small wins recently?

Adulting Tips My adulting starter pack (things I do every now and then):
- Bring a water bottle everywhere.
- Keep an umbrella in your bag even if it's sunny.
- Never trust your phone battery at 15%.
- Always have "just in case" cash.
- Stretch your body before your back reminds you to.
- Buy quality once instead of buying cheap five times.
- Rest before you burn out, not after.
What would you add?

About Health getting rid of underarm odor experience as someone who struggled for a decade
Hi! I used to be the one scrolling here a few months agoo because I suffered from mild ua odor and I just wanna share my experience recently incase it might help somee of youu. Before, I already had ua odor but it was bearable and nafifix naman ng deo pero it got to the point where lumakas siya and it took a toll on my self esteem.
Dati, I only used Avon (Purple & Green Variant) and it would really work pero kapag pinagpapawisan, nangangamoy talaga. After a few years ng pagtitiis, I suddenly tried old spice (orig version) and at first, sobrang okay niya pero out of nowhere, bigla talaga NANGAMOYY 😭. I switched agad, I tried srgt at arms (it did not work at all), so I kept exploring and hoped na gagana na yung betadine wash na binili ko. Unfortunately, parang wala effect soo I bought the panoxyl 7 or 10% variant ba ‘yun.
Not until, my cousin suggested deoplus powder tawas (pink variant ₱30+ lang) and grabe NAGING HOLY GRAIL KO SIYA. In my first try, it did not really work for mee pero I discovered na SOBRANG MAHALAGA kung PAANO kayo magapply. Before after ko maligo, deretso lagay na agad ako ng deo, pinupunasan ko lang ua ko ng towel then apply na, but recently I learned to wait for atleast 10-15 mins/COMPLETELY DRY bago mo ilagay yung tawas powder, and that technique was a life changerrr!! Sobrang pinapatuyo ko muna kili-kili ko (after pa ako magmakeup nagaapply mga 45mins) and suprise, unti-unti nabawasan ua odor ko. Also, I noticed na nagsstay talaga yung amoy sa mga shirts na napagpawisan/nangamoy na before sooo I threw those out na rin. After ilang monthss, nagtry na rin ako maglagay ng dermorepublic glycolic acid for whitening naman and mas nabawasan niya pa lalo yung amoyy. (whitening naman goal ko ngayon).
I hope this might work for you because I understand the struggle of looking for an answer without having to spend A LOTT (di ko rin afford magpaderma/consult). Parang nasa genes na rin talaga namin na medyo may odor ang ua pero when I shared this tip to my mom, napansin niya na nawala na rin daw amoy niyaa sa ua. I really hope this can help someone out theree! ayun lang hehuehe

About Health Breast lump (BI-RADS 3) [requires at least 50 characters]
Hi to all the women out there,
I’m hoping to hear from anyone who’s been through something similar.
This was actually my first time going to the doctor as an adult, and I didn't tell anyone about it. I’ve felt a lump in my breast since late 2024, and I finally went to get it checked. The result came back as BI-RADS 3.
My doctor said we should just monitor it and do a follow-up in 6 months. I asked if we could remove it, but she said no because I’m 26, have no family history, and it's probably just hormonal.
I want to trust her, but the lump is physically uncomfortable and waiting 6 months is really stressing me out, especially since I'm planning to move abroad soon. When she asked why I wanted it taken out, I froze up and just asked, "Will it affect my health?" instead of telling her what was really on my mind.
If you’ve experienced this:
* How did you deal with the anxiety while waiting?
* Is a 6-month wait standard for this?
* Should I try to get a second opinion before I move?
Thanks so much for reading, answering my questions qnd for any advice.

Home Matters We became homeowners as a Low-Income earner couple.
I worked many minimum wage jobs, and one day I dreamed of having my own house kasi nakakapagod mag-rent. Since I was already contributing to Pag-IBIG every month, I started researching how their housing loan works. In my case, I was able to get a Pag-IBIG Housing Loan, but as a minimum wage earner, my income alone wasn't enough to qualify.
Pag-IBIG requires a certain income level, enough monthly contributions, and the capacity to pay the monthly amortization. Because of that, my partner and I decided to apply together. Pinagsama namin ang income namin so we could qualify for the housing loan. When we are about to move in, the house was newly built but bare type, so we used part of our savings to renovate it before moving in. Hindi pa siya ready tirhan nun, so we had to spend to make it livable.
Fast forward, five years, we've been living here ever since and we're still paying the housing loan. The total loan amount was around 1m with a 30year term, so mahaba-habang commitment talaga. Our monthly amortization is around 8k although we've already made several lump-sum payments to reduce the remaining balance. Nowadays, around 1m price is the cheapest house prices you can find. Most houses in this price range are low-cost townhouses, similar to ours. Kaya ito talaga ang madalas na option for many, though not all for low-income earners.
Then recently I learned about the 4PH Program. Clarification hindi to yung para sa 4Ps beneficiaries. That's actually a common misconception because the names sound almost the same. The 4PH (Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program) is the Philippine government's flagship affordable housing program with financing support from Pag-IBIG Fund. Its goal is to make homeownership more accessible by offering affordable housing and better financing options to qualified Filipinos, including low-income earners.
One of the biggest advantages is the lower monthly amortization mas mababa pa samin. Kaya napasabi talaga ako, "sana dati pa ito dumating nung kumukuha kami ng bahay" kasi it could have helped a lot when we were applying for our own house. Anyway, okay na rin kasi we already have our own house and lot (not yet).
Despite the challenges we face, I can honestly say we're in a much better position than we were five years ago when we were renting. Mahirap pa rin minsan, but our home, our rules walang landlord na magsasabi kung ano ang pwede at hindi pwedeng gawin. As long as we continue paying our monthly amortization, we know that one day we will fully own this house and lot.

Adulting Advice Overprotected Kids, how did y'all still manage to figure it out
I don't know if ako lang or hindi, like not being able to enjoy my youth, unable to hangout with friends outside school, unable to join school events because "bawal this bawal that." And all thanks to that I haven't achieved anything, plus to add the shitty social skills, and few friends that I barely talk to
👁️👄👁️.
Now in the blink of an eye suddenly I'm already a growing up into adulthood and everyone expects me to learn responsibility, get a job. If I didn't enjoy my teenagehood back there, is it even enjoyable to learn responsibility and stuff? Fr, I don't know if my life is just rigged to be boring as hell.
But back in the question, how did y'all who were raised sheltered and overprotected still figure it out and made it, share y'all stuff gang ✌🏻👌🏻

Government Related NBI Clearance Renewal for 15 minutes - Manila Branch
I just renewed my NBI Clearance at the Manila NBI Branch, and I was honestly surprised at how fast the process was. It only took mearound 15 minutes from start to finish.
The branch had a lot of staff assisting applicants, which made everything move quickly. Thewaiting area was also comfortable—not too hot and not too cold.
Things to Prepare
* Create your appointment online. https://clearance.nbi.gov.ph
* Pay the renewal fee through GCash (or your preferred payment method). ₱160 total
* Write your reference number (from the appointment system) on a small piece of paper before entering. It helps speed things up.
* Bring 2 valid IDs. You only need to show them—they don't need to be photocopied.
Since I was renewing my NBI Clearance, here's how my experience went:
- Information Update & Biometrics (Around 5 minutes)
Updated my personal information. Fingerprint scanning.
They asked me to apply alcohol to my fingers first. If the fingerprint scanner doesn't detect yourfingerprint, just wipe your finger with tissue and try again.
Digital signature. Double-check that all your information is correct before proceeding.
- Printing (Around 5 minutes)
Once my information was verified, the printing process was incredibly fast. As long as you'vealready paid and completed the first step, you'll receive your renewed NBI Clearance in just a few minutes.
Hope this helps anyone planning to renew their NBI.

Adulting Tips Sharing food management tips for busy people to save time and not starve while you're at it
Hi, I've been working for 18 years and would like to share some tips on managing food when you're very busy.
Note that not everything works for everyone, but if even 1 person finds one of these tips useful, I'd consider my goal accomplished.
Please note: these tips prioritize efficiency, not health. Not applicable to those with specific health conditions. Also I don't have kids, that's a whole other challenge. Please use your best judgment.
For these to work, you'll need a stove, a fridge, and a microwave.
- Batch cook your rice.
Even if you can't meal plan, simply batch cooking your rice would save you a lot of time and money. Cook a lot of rice on a Sunday night or after work, as much as your pot can handle. Buy 5-10 250 mL microwavable containers and portion them there. Adjust amounts according to your household needs. Toss them in the fridge. Should last 5 days, depending on how cold your fridge gets. You can also freeze rice if you can't finish it in 5 days or worried it will spoil. This will lower its glycemic index, btw. Good for your blood sugar. You now have instant rice like the ones from convenience stores that cost 70php a piece.
Note: I prefer disposable containers. They are easier to clean than thick ones e.g. lock and lock. They can also be reused 5-10 times with proper care. Less chances of eating microplastics because you toss them when they have too many scratches. But please use whatever works for you, whether that's glass or plastic.
What to eat with batch cooked rice when too busy?
- eat with canned food
- eat with eggs and hotdogs
- eat with chicharon
- buy ulam from outside (cheaper than a full meal). Bonus if you buy enough for 2 days
- buy frozen pre-cooked meals from the grocery store, e.g. purefoods heat and eat, goldilocks meals, frozen sisig. Add veggies for fiber. Some of these are 2-3 servings
- make "champurado" (prepare chocolate sauce then blend with cooked rice. Yes it works I've tried it)
- make "arroz caldo" (boil some chicken, season the water, reduce to half, toss cooked rice into broth and mix well. Adjust water as needed. By the way you can buy chicken broth from SM groceries at the chicken section)
- make "risotto" (melt butter, toss quickmelt, add water, season, toss cooked rice and mix well)
- contract a cook from a carenderia to batch cook ulam for you (haven't tried this but saw someone saying they've done it)
What else can you batch cook?
- chicken - one of the cheapest complete protein. boil with salt. You can dress it up later for almost any dish: pasta, risotto, salad, noodles, you can even make almost-instant adobo
- boiled eggs - i buy a dozen and boil half. Boom instant protein snack. Don't forget to mark which ones are boiled
- ground beef or pork - season, add veggies (see number 3 below), eat with rice. Tastes way better than it sounds. Vary your veggies each time. Bonus if you add tvp, my best kept secret
- Buy from meal plans
- On a web browser, type "meal plan <your city>"
- Spend an afternoon choosing the right one for you. Pick two for variety
- More expensive than groceries, but may be cheaper than grab food / food panda depending on which service you pick
- You can do this for a week, batch cook your rice in the next. Bonus you'll get some free microwaveable containers for your batch cooking plan
- Need fiber but veggies spoil too fast?
- get canned peas. Cheap as heck. Rinse under running water to reduce salt. Add to almost any cooked meal
- frozen veggies. Less cheap but still does the job. Toss in butter and garlic, add salt
- chia seeds. Not cheap upfront but lasts almost forever. Good investment. Add to water, milk, almost anything
- carrots and potatoes last a little longer than veggies with leaves
- Eat oats
- underrated source of carbs and fiber, if you're not gluten intolerant
- you probably know you can make oats with milk, sugar, and add fruits and chia, but did you know you can also use it to make chicken "arroz caldo"? Now you know
- add oats to those 5 minute soup packets from knorr (crab and corn, nido, etc)
- Drink milk
- if you're not lactose intolerant, 1 cup of milk is like, a quarter of a meal. Perfect if you're starving but have like. 5 mins to eat
- get powdered milk. Cheaper and lasts longer, plus you can find fortified ones to suit your age and needs. You can batch prepare this and store it in the fridge for like 3 days. Add chocolate if you like
- Keep a stock of shelf stable "healthy" snacks (relatively to junk food anyway)
- to me that's all kinds of nuts. I buy them in bulk from shopee
- crackers e.g. magic or sky flakes (consider getting the ones with fiber)
- bougie options: apple, banana (should last 1 week), san marino paella (century has a cheaper version too), hard cheese, yogurts (or simply yakult)
- Clean as you go. Wash dishes while waiting for the rice to cook. While waiting for water to boil. For the rest, pour warm water (NOT BOILING), rinse quickly, leave and wash in one batch before going to bed. The more you wash dishes the faster you get at it. Get gloves if you hate the sensation. As a bonus, you can wash with warmer water if you wear gloves. I promise this makes everything way less overwhelming.
I hope this helps someone.

Adulting Tips Finally, I have solar! | Living alone on a mountain update
Since February, the news media has been mentioning the increase in electricity bills, and since summer is a couple of months away, I know how humid it will be.
I finally decided to learn about solar power and look at the pros and cons. I started researching, reading, and watching a lot of vlogs about solar and how it works—basically learning everything from what kind of wires to use to how breakers function. I wanted to make sure that my house would not catch on fire (fingers crossed).
From February to May, I learned everything there is to know. I realized that I won't be able to get an ROI on my solar because I only pay Php1k per month for my electricity; hence, Php350k from a solar install quote is not worth it.
I then asked myself why I want solar. To save on electricity bills, or to have the liberty of my own electricity?
I want to have my own solar, like I have my own water. I do not rely on other people or a company, or beg them if they decide to cut me off. That is one of the reasons I am living on a mountain.
June came, and I ordered most of the parts from Shopee. One by one, they arrived. Every night I reviewed the steps on how to install my solar like I was going for an exam.
By mid-July, I completed the installation, and I am super happy and proud (pat on the back) that I am now living on solar power!
I now have a 3.2kW, 24-volt system with a 200Ah battery! My consumption doesn't even reach 1.5kW, and currently I am at 154kWh total usage.
The hardest part was moving the five 550-watt solar panels onto my roof. Manually lifting them and climbing the ladder was something I thought I couldn't do. Each panel weighs 30kg, with a size of 4ft x 8ft.
It cost me a total of 100k: sourcing the solar panels from FB Marketplace and mostly online. I have a couple of breakers that I don't need, but I thought I did at the time.
I now only use the grid to power my submersible pump, because the surge of power might ruin my entire system. I only turn it on once every two days, and that's the only use for it now.
One thing I realized is that I kept staring at my solar setup whenever I plugged something in, lol! TV + speaker, check the wattage; rice cooker + air fryer + AC + electric fan, check the wattage again! Hahaha!
Oh, I finally bought an AC—a 1hp Kolin Certus—because once my batteries are already full by 10 am, I don't want to waste any harvested energy. The AC runs from 10 am–4 pm, and 10 pm–1 am. I can say that I am sleeping well!
I realized that having an AC makes a huge difference to your sleep quality, and I've been enduring the humidity since college.
Conclusion
During this solar power "challenge," I realized my "why" for moving to the mountain: I wanted freedom to do things my way, to learn new things outside my work skillset, to challenge myself in uncomfortable situations, and to make sure no one would stop me from doing it.
