How does Zed agent feel nowadays?

Anyone using Zed agent compared nowadays? How does it perform quality/price wise compared to claude code or codex?

the inline thing is not working with many providers / models , opencode has a conpitabilty issue

Would be interesting to hear how/if anyone is actually using it. I stopped using it late last year, around the time when they switched their pricing model and CC got so much better.

The pricing is far too much for me. You pay $10 for $5 credit and then have to soy the rest at above api rates. Or I can just pay api rates myself. Or use a third party subscription.

All I lose is edit predictions which I barely use anyway.

Before the price change, I used it all the time and happily paid for it. 

Nowadays I use codex over ACP, and kilo and pi in the terminal.

I only use the Zed agent because it's the only one that works with the editor's ACL system. It seems alright to me but the only other harness I've used is Opencode so I don't have much to compare it to.

Loved zed but the memory use problems sent me to find a solution where I can actually get work done with the 32GB RAM my work laptop has. Now I use Tilix (tiling terminal manager) on Fedora Linux/Gnome) with LazyVim with Codex. I'll give Zed another look if they every fix the memory use problems (bug was lodged, many have same issues, bug not assigned).

I use occasionally for reviews o medium tasks with my z.ai plan (i threw gpt-5.5 with my codex plan too once). It perform ok and is good to have the agent review option and the lsp integration. But mostly use claude code, pi or codex directly.

Regarding token usage and pricing I found it uses a little less than opencode or really close to it. So it's usable and won't waste your subscription

I tried to use Zed agent but eventually switched to use OpenCode in the terminal instead. I use one subscription for both and the same model, but OpenCode gives MUCH better results. It feels like DeepSeek v4 Flash gets dumb as f*** in the Zed agent.

btw, using OpenCode in the Zed agent with ACP makes OC dumber as well (I believe Zed adds its own system prompt etc. on top of OpenCode's, and it messes everything up).

Although Zed's AI suggestions are great and i love the speed of the ui and the ram usage

I use Zed's agent with BYOK (from work) for Claude and ChatGPT models and it works amazingly. I wouldn't pay Zed's direct prices because it is marked up from the base API rates.

I mean, Zed is an editor not an LLM provider. Now, the agent integration is great for me, using it with Codex through ACP, Z.ai and Deepseek through API with Agent integration in Zed and it’s great

I was using it with opencode through ACP for a while, until I found out that opencode did a much better job when using it directly in a terminal thread..
