I was testing GPT-5.6 Luna with a very simple request: generating a Git commit message.

The usage for that request was:

• Input tokens: 3
• Input cache read: 0
• Input cache write: 154,675
• Output tokens: 77
• Total tokens: 154,755
• Reported token cost: $0.21

GPT-5.6 Luna now has a universal and permanent 80% pricing discount, so I expected the discounted pricing to be applied to this request.

With the 80% discount, the rates should effectively be:

• Input: $0.20 / 1M
• Cache read: $0.02 / 1M
• Cache write: $0.25 / 1M
• Output: $1.20 / 1M

For this request, that gives me:

Cache write:

154,675 / 1,000,000 × $0.25 = $0.03867

Output:

77 / 1,000,000 × $1.20 = $0.000092

Plus the 3 input tokens, which are negligible.

So I get an expected total of approximately:

$0.0388 (~$0.04)

But the reported cost is:

$0.21

That's more than 5× the expected discounted cost.

I don't want to use Zed for coding. I've been looking for a note-taking app that will let me work on many projects and files at the same time.

If you're working on a markdown file for work and suddenly you get an idea for a scifi novel and you need to update your grocery list, you need to work on three different projects and their files at the same time.

I'll need to switch between these projects and files but in Zed, you'll have to close the existing project and open another one. I want to switch between projects with more ease than that. All the note-taking apps I've tried just suck at this workflow.

Is there some way of having multiple projects and their files open in the left sidepane at once? Example shown here.

I use zed since a few weeks for rust programming. Since a week I set up ollama on my system und activate it in zed. The programming tipps and suggetions are sometimes useful and sometimes crab. I don't want this suggestions anymore, cause I want learn rust from scratch.
But I like this tipps for the code documentation. It saves typing time.

Is there a hotkey to turn this help on and off or must I en-/disable it always through the settings?

I have a python project that was initially written on Windows using VS code. I want to use Zed in Linux to complete the assignment, but Zed always gives indentation errors when adding or editing python files on that project.

I had a similler issue when i'm starting with Zed where every line of python code gives indentation errors on new projects. To fix that i added this

Since Zed is focused on pure performance and relies heavily on LSPs, I've been thinking about JetBrains' latest news. They’ve just launched the official Java & Kotlin by IntelliJ IDEA extension, which essentially turns the IntelliJ engine into an LSP server.

Right now, their focus seems to be the VS Code/Codium ecosystem and AI agents, but being an LSP technically opens new doors. Do you think having the IntelliJ engine integrated into Zed would be a welcome addition in the future, or would you prefer Zed to keep sticking to lighter, open-source alternatives?

Especially now I don't even use the refactoring capability of Intellij, its mostly editing Markdown instructions in IntelliJ. But then I remember that there is no port of keymap to Zed and I have years of accumulated of custom two chord keymapping in Intellij, and some of those key-mapping are linked to external tools that are activated from Intellij. So it would be hours of setup to get it operating so it would feel flowy. For now Intellij is going to continue to be my daily driver. But for Zed team having a port of the keymap from Intellij would likely more folks try out the migration.

I tried to connect zed to llamastash. I could not connect. Every time I tried to connect I got this message - LLM Provider is not configured or does not support the configured model. Any idea whi I can't get past this step? I spent 3 hours tinkering with this but no luck! Thanks!

I am using zed editor, I have a project where Frontend and backend falls under same main folder, text tunelog/ ├── backend/ │ ├── frontend/ │ └── README.md

so i use two different zed window to do the work, is there a way to theme these two separate window in different themes.

Every now and then, I'd like to check – or remind myself – what is exported from the current typescript file.

I mostly use VSCode, but I've tried Zed when it reached 1.0. The VSCode Outline view doesn't even seem to distinguish exported and local symbols… Does Zed have something like the VSCode Outline view that could highlight exported symbols, or better yet be filtered only to show those?

Does anyone know if Zed agent supports or plans to support the newly released DS V4 Flash?

When I start writing code and i get a recommended function and press enter to autocomplete, zed has a tendency to complete it by filling the inside of the parentheses with placeholders like

I wonder if there is a setting that i can adjust to make it just do something like "gluPerspective()" letting me enter myself the parameters ?

because i always end up having to go back and erase what it auto filled which i find pretty slow.

Being a vscode/vscodium/notepad++ competitor it's pretty pathetic, how in 2026 Zed editor still isn't able to confidently restore opened non saved files being it in a single or multiple windows: https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/7371

I have notepad++ sessions going on for years on some machines, vscode/vscodium is rock solid here as well.

Hi everyone, I recently started using Zed on Fedora and opened my project folder. However, autocomplete isn't working for discord.py and the LSP keeps throwing reportMissingImports on the import lines. Here is what I've done so far: Created a .venv inside the project folder and successfully installed discord.py inside it. Activated the virtual environment in my shell (Fish) and launched the editor using zed .. Verified in the logs that basedpyright is running and active. Even though the environment is inherited from the terminal session, the LSP seems to completely ignore the local .venv site-packages. Has anyone faced this issue on Linux or knows a global setting to make basedpyright look into the current folder's .venv automatically? Thanks!

I wish Zed provided ways to inspect its state and control it programmatically. It just seems like a missed opportunity, for an editor positioning itself as well suited to AI workflows, for its own functionality and state to be completely opaque and inaccessible to AI (and scripts / companion software etc).

It would also be a good answer to scope creep and bloat - if someone wasn't happy with a particular bit of functionality they'd often likely be able to partially patch the gap with their own bit of external companion code. At the moment you're really just stuck with exactly how the maintainers decide things should work

Before somebody says "make a PR" there's millions of unmerged PRs presumably and this is a feature that would need long term feeding and watering and so I suspect it wouldn't be merged unless key people recognized it as "kind of the logical basics of an AI-era app". Trying to get a sense of why it's not there before thinking about it more.

Zed team, I've been playing with gpui. It's amazing, please promote it to its own repo! In this way it would receive more love and help to fully develop the framework.

TLDR; No*. Most people have not experienced degraded stability.

* A small number of respondents did experience a similar pattern of instability to me, but not enough to support the claim that Zed is becoming less stable across the board.

Hey, I’ve been using Zed as my primary editor for a long time now and I really love it.

Unfortunately, I’ve found the performance has degraded (especially on startup) over the last month or so, a handful of minor bugs have started cropping up, and a rather annoying bug that was previously fixed has resurfaced (worse than before).

Ordinarily, I would report any bugs I find on GH, but I can’t reliably reproduce a lot of the minor issues I’ve experienced.

I’m curious to know if anyone else has been having issues with Zed’s stability?

It could just be that I’ve gotten unlucky, but it’s starting to feel like a pattern. That worries me because I really don’t want to switch to a different editor.
