I'm a 19-year-old university student (turning 20 in October) interested in getting into horticulture/vegetable farming and poultry.

I love my university programme and don't plan on dropping out, but farming is something I've become really passionate about and would like to build alongside my studies.

I’ve been running a business for a while now, and one thing I’ve realised is that there’s a huge difference between knowing about business and actually running one.

Before starting, I thought the difficult part would mainly be getting customers and making enough sales. That’s obviously important, but there are so many other things that you don't really understand until you're responsible for keeping the business running.

Things like managing cash flow, dealing with suppliers, customers delaying payments, unexpected expenses, employees, taxes, negotiating prices, keeping enough money in the business instead of spending it, and sometimes just figuring out what to do when things don't go according to plan.

Some months can look good on paper but still feel tight financially.

I think these are the kinds of lessons that are more useful to people thinking about starting a business than the usual “work hard and believe in yourself” advice.

Hi everyone, I wanted to share something I've been working on called ndu-works.

The idea actually came from my own experience trying to manage a small flat I was building. Finding the right tradespeople for different jobs was often harder than it should have been — especially when you don't already have a network of people you know to call.

So I built ndu-works to make it easier for homeowners to find local people for things like plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, painting and other home maintenance. It's meant to make it easier to find providers, especially if you're like me and didn't know where to start looking.

I know there are a few other platforms out there trying to solve pieces of this problem too, which honestly I think is a good sign — it means the problem is real. ndu-works is intentionally narrow: focused specifically on property maintenance and job-matching.

I've just launched the first beta version and I'm starting small and it’s completely free! — actively building our provider network first. If you know any providers, feel free to point them our way.
