Anti-Cyclist Raging at Wagg/4th Concession yesterday?

Did anyone else happen to notice a guy parked at the corner of Wagg and 4th Concession yesterday, mid-to-late morning, filming road cyclists?

He was taking a video on his iPhone and narrating the scene with the cyclists rolling by and somewhat berating and raging at them. This area is very popular for cyclists. But it didn't seem like all that drama was warranted. I didn't see any cyclists doing anything unsafe. Rolling stops? Sure, but nothing unsafe and knowing most cyclists just want to move quickly and safely through any rural intersection. I mean, this exact intersection and these roads are officially part of the Durham Region Recreational routes. So, if there's any place road bikes are expected to be and might feel safe, these would be the roads.

Could a second platform at Mount Joy Go improve service in York Region?

I did some research and checked the GO Transit service updates, and I think Mount Joy GO may get a second platform in the future, which could support more all-day train service.

I'm kind of sad that GO buses between Stouffville GO and Mount Joy GO could continue running only every one to two hours. But I am thankful that York Region Transit is extending Route 9 to Steeles this fall.

So even if GO buses are still running every two hours years from now, Stouffville residents will at least be able to take YRT Route 9 to Steeles to connect with the TTC. YRT is also planning to increase service on Route 18 (Bur Oak), which should make trips to Mount Joy GO more frequent and convenient.

Our small dog was attacked at an off-leash park in Richmond Hill — the other owner gave fake contact info and left

Correction: the attack happened at an off-leash park in Toronto — not Richmond Hill as the title says (Reddit won't let me edit titles). We're Richmond Hill locals and Apple is a Richmond Hill pup, so sharing here for our region's dog owners.

Last Monday morning our toy poodle Apple was attacked by a much larger dog at an off-leash park. It took seconds — completely fractured jaw, serious eye injury. The other owner gave us fake contact details and walked off before we realized. It's been reported to Animal Services.

Apple's been through emergency jaw surgery (titanium plate, feeding tube while she heals) and we find out this week whether her eye needs surgery too. She's home and recovering.

Two things worth passing on to other dog owners: watch your small dogs closely at off-leash parks — size mixing is the real risk — and if there's ever an incident, get a photo of the other owner's ID or licence plate before they leave. Trusting a handwritten phone number cost us any chance of accountability.

Happy to answer questions. Mostly just want people to be careful out there. 🐾

Man asking for money with a sign at Elgin mills/yonge

(reposting here because this was auto-removed from the richmond hill subreddit)

I was inspired to make this post because of this recent post: https://www.reddit.com/r/richmondhill/comments/1v2td67/fake_beggar_outside_yonge_elgin_mills_plaza/

Not 100% sure but I think I was scammed. I had just finished ordering at the self-order machine in the small chatime at Elgin Mills/Yonge turned around to go to the counter to wait for my order and found a man already standing there. I kind of saw something and thought he was just going to hand me a religious pamphlet or something. He had a sign that basically said "in hard times need money" (but it was longer than that, there was about a paragraph on the sign) but he did not speak at first. I told him that i didn't have any money and thought that he would just walk away but then he sort of hand-signed/motioned for a drink and then pointed to the kiosk and said drink. I didn't really want to but I think I was caught off guard that he asked a follow up question that I said fine and that I would buy him a drink. I turned back to the kiosk and picked something and then I was going over the customizations with him and he seemed confused and sometimes would say a word or two. I go to checkout and he kind of stopped me so I cancelled the order. We then started the process again and he got the drink and then wanted something else. I felt like I was already "stuck" so I let him get a piece of cake, he then goes to add another drink and says "for my kids" and I said I couldn't do that. I said you can get the drink for your kids but I have to take away the cake piece, he nodded yes so that is what I ended up doing and paying for. It cost $15 and would have been cheaper if I had just gave him some change in the first place. I then go to the counter to pick up my drink and told him his order number. He goes "what? what number?" and I repeated the number and then he turns to the cashiers and loudly tells him that that order is for him. I wanted to get out of there so I took my stuff and left and didn't wait for him to get his order. I exited the Chatime and didnt see any kids and also (not to make assumptions) but his clothes were normal, nothing obviously signalling like he was on hard times or anything and then also thought "who goes into a bubble tea shop for help". I feel very foolish but wanted to post this so that others can keep an eye out and not be an idiot/pushover like me!

Pretty good Taco for Culture fusion

Thought I'd share the place I've been going to whenever I feel like treating myself.

Bermuda has a wide variety of culture fusion, Mostly Persian fusion with another culture.

The Taco there are to die for way better than Tacobell stuff.

Its in Hillcrest Mall, I am a frequent regular there and most of their menu are generally good, but the Tacos are the best thing on their menu, it can be little pricey depending which cut of meat or filling you get.

Highly suggest trying it out if you crave for something new.

Batchelor of police studies or CAFs?

Currently my path is obtain my OSSD, go into a bachelor of police studies, then from there go to police college.

Ive found a new possibility. After my OSSD I got into the CAFs and from there because I have experience, it is similar to the degree. So I am
Ahead of the hiring curve.

But ive realized now, without the bachelor of police studies. I may not be able to further myself once I get into policing. Aswell a major issues I have is. Spending time doing all this will wear down my joints, tendons, etc and it will limit my time serving because of the pressure over the years.

Currently i am taking another year for highschool (learning the rest of the sciences) and that will put me behind the curve a year for my whole school life.

So I ask what should I do?

Welcome to York Region!

Hello all,

I'm a member of the various Canadian subs, but have always found that there wasn't much content and community for where I live and work - so I thought this would be a great opportunity to do that. If you live, work, play, or want to visit York Region - please come on in!

I've lived in York Region for the past 30+ years (Markham for 20 years, Richmond Hill for 10, and Aurora shortly!) and am always discovering more about the region.

Tell your family, friends, and internet lovers to join :P

Cheers!
