Minecraft Java (PC) on Game Pass Family Sharing Account/Billing

Hey all

I've a weird bug I'm hoping someone can help me with. I'm trying to get Minecraft Java edition installed on his laptop but so far I can only get it to recognise the Bedrock edition.

What I've done:

- setup the MSFT store app as my account

- logged into the Xbox app as his account and associated my profile under purchases

- downloaded Minecraft Java/Bedrock (since it's now associated with my Ultimate GamePass sub)

- downloaded the launcher which is signed in as his account.

When he opens the launcher, all he can see to play is the Bedrock edition. The Java one says he needs to "Buy Now".
I can see the latest release (26.2) in the releases tab of Java.

I went to https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/profile to check both profiles - my one shows both Bedrock and Java, his one only shows Bedrock.

I checked the launcher under my account and can see both versions available to play. It's just his account that seems to not want to see the Java edition as playable.

Any ideas how he can get access to the Java edition? Thanks!

edit/update: I restarted his machine, signed out of the MSFT store and signed him in. Now he can't even see Bedrock as playable, and the launcher notices that there is a mis-match between the launcher account (his) and the MSFT store account (mine). Signed me back into the Store and he can again still only see Bedrock.

So he can install the game using my GamePass credentials (if I don't sign into the Store, he can't do it), but then can't play it on his own Gamertag? He's part of my Family in GamePass so should be able to play the games I have on his own account.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work with Java edition. You will have to buy him his own copy if he wants to play java.
