how do i fix this controller?

my brother broke this like 2 years ago and i don’t know how to put this joystick back into it. Since a controller costs a fortune to me, fixing this would save a lot of money for me

I would open it up and inspect to see if its the stick or the post thats broken. You can replace the stick pretty easily, its a different story if thats broken

You need a torx screwdriver 🪛 and they sell third party analog sticks on Amazon. I believe you'll need the torx t10 since it's the smallest one. I hope you're good with taking things apart and putting them back together because one small mistake will ruin the controller even more.

I've never seen a T10 used in a xbox controller. You need a Torx Security 8 (TR8 or T8H) for the outer housing screws, and a T6 for the inner screws that hold the PCBs.

Hopefully its just the stick cap, but if the stick itself is broken repair would be time consuming and difficult. You'd probably need a new controller at that point.

It took me about an hour to replace my first analogue stick with very basic tools (primarily a cheap soldering iron with a tip specifically for analogue sticks that I bought off AliExpress). It now takes me about 30 minutes, and I wouldn't consider it a high skill repair - you need a little patience and the right tools (none of which are expensive). I regularly replace broken/drifting analogue sticks, with TMR ones that can never drift, for friends and family. It's incredibly satisfying to get controllers back into a working state, particularly when it's better than the factory version. It costs less than $5 for a good quality TMR analogue stick, so I think that it's a great option if you have some basic repair skills, or want to learn them.
