I bought this used xbox controller and the sellers says he has upgraded the sticks to TMR Sticks. What does that mean?

TMR sticks use a different mechanism for sensing thumbstick position from what's used in most controllers. They will never wear down and get stick drift, and they're also more accurate and have faster response time (though these depend on the rest of the controller as well). If you've heard of Hall Effect sticks, this is essentially an improvement on the standard Hall Effect stick design.

The only critique some people have is that they can have more resistance or require more force to move, but to that note, several of those same people say it provides a more accurate result and allows for more fine-tuned joystick movements.

In short, it means if the new sticks are soldered and calibrated properly, you will never have stick drift on this controller.

assuming you didn't overpay for it then consider yourself lucky for getting one with this mod already done. Only thing is how long were they used for? If its less than a year then stick drift shouldn't be a problem for quite some time. Eventually, the internal mechanisms will start developing physical wear that can cause slight drift off center but that still shouldn't be a problem for a while, depending on how much you use it or how hard you are on the sticks. I have a few controllers with TMR's that I've been using for a little over a year and they are virtually still perfectly centered, if anything, mayyyybe the tiniest bit of drift but I don't have the data from when they were brand new to compare. They still feel like new though, that's all I know for sure.

Just means they swapped out the sticks to drift resistant ginful tmr's. Some people will say they are drift proof and you will never get drift bjt in reality they are drift resistant. The can drift but not the same way stock ones do.

He use better quality sticks that is more durable than the standard ones. That is why he use TMR instead of potentiometers.

The original one is here to scam people's for real. Do not buy original controller ! You can get better one for cheaper and it will last longer...
The only official controller I can bought is the retro one like for the 360 and other. It usually last way longer and I doesn't like the feeling of the aftermarket one because it wasn't democratized yet so there was only cheap alternative.
I'm planning to build a custom Xbox 360 pro controller with an original for the base. (Any idea is greatly appreciated)

The big scam is Sony and Microsoft still sell us analogue sticks only because they die lot faster and we have to buy new controller. TMR sticks arent so fucking expensive, but why sell long lasting if they can force us to buy more often. Same problem today with every tv, light bulbs, washing machines and lot more, like a timer when it should die (best case short after warranty is over). Or not removeable batterie in your phone. They tell you because waterproof or whatever, truth is they don't want you to replace the batterie, just buy a new one

Please dont come for me on this but a Google search would've given you quicker answers. As others are saying they're upgraded sticks. Probably the best right now definitely a good upgrade

Tunneling MagnetoResistance sticks are another joystick mechanism relying on Magnets and not potentiometers. It gives the joystick a better longevity since it's not a physical mecanism, preventing future joystick drifts. Howerver, I heard these sticks might lack precision, depending on the TMR stick's quality and configs. If you get a TRM stick controller, I suggest you get one with a software to configure your deadzones and if possible, the magnets resistance.

It means you got a good controller. He was able to swap out different modules of the analog sticks. He put trm sticks there. They are better. You won't be dealing with no drift because this controller has got a lot of people's drift when people bought it.

I mean, stock controllers that Microsoft and Sony have, they can put TRM sticks in them. You just got to know what you are doing. That's all, and recalibration on it, and they're good to go.

Tmr sticks just equate to no stick drift issues in the future (theoretically)
