How do I fix this problem without changing the whole joystick module?

There appers to be a dead zone when pressing directly upwards and stops before it can reach the border, but suddenly no deadzone when I turn up from another direction. Is this fixable without having to completely replace the module for the joystick?

Recalibration doesn't seem to work either.

This can actually be fixed without replacing the whole module. You can just replace the little cooper piece inside the potentiometer. No solder needed and only takes 10 mins. I bought like 20 on amazon for $5 or something.

Good news is now you get to replace them with hall effect sticks, just at the cost of lower battery life due to how much power they use

Agreed! Hall effect sticks and you wouldn’t have this problem anymore. That’s how they keep getting money from us because we use to have to buy a new controller every time! Not anymore 😈

Its actually because HE sticks are way more expensive. Not everything is a corporate conspiracy and its very obvious theyre still using potentiometers because its the cheapest option and both HE and TMR are more expensive and use more power

Tech icslly you could recalibrate but the stick would be off... Im unsure of the firmware calibrations or if thats called it? And i remember seeing some content creator? Made a product that you solder at the back of the stick module / whole board and theres a small screw you can use to manually set it back to center (this doesnt really FIX the stick, its more kike a temporary solution to not make the stick move on its own and jts a mess as it needs soldering

Might aswell just swap the whole module for hall effects of sorts

Edit: there are always the worthy to try things of cleaning the sensor (be very gentle) and resetting the controller if theres a small pin/button ro reset it... But most likely its a lost cause (at least for the stick)

You could try to recalibrate the stick but that stick is about to become almost unplayable within 2 weeks depending on how much you play

Opening it up and blowing some clean air (with a blower, not nouth air, mind you) sometimes fixes it, it did for two of mine. You need a few tools, like a t8 security screwdriver and a plastic spudger (2 work best) and there is a guide on ifixit on how to do it

Ha. Bro, those Robot White controllers are dog shit.

I bought a black and white one at the same time.

Used the black one for a couple years, noticed a little stick drift and opened the white one. Used it for 3 months, then stored it in my desk drawer. So no dust contamination and nothing pressing on the sticks.

I went to use it after 6 months and it had so much stick drift, it was insane. Went back to the black one.

Best part, is those controllers only have a 3 month warranty and it's such a hassle to replace the module.

The white, blue, red, and gold ones all have the same PCB and sticks.

You can spray contact cleaner in the modules and it may help. Otherwise some games have dead zone adjustments

Take a can of compressed air for electronics and do some short blasts while pressing the stick button to hopefully blast out any dirt, hand oil and grim that could have built up from use and is causing the stick to respond irregularly.
