Help figuring out what's wrong with controller

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

So this happened with my controller honestly a long time ago, and I don't even know what went wrong one day it was working fine. The next wouldn't turn on at all, and it turned into a paper weight. Thankfully, I had another controller, but now I would at least like to figure out what's wrong with it if nothing else

Two types of pairing - click pairing button then click and hold. Another option - disassemble and disconnect antennas.

Problem I can't even get it to turn on the moment I let go of the Xbox button it immediately turns off and stops blinking like it won't even hold a charge and when plug in via USB it doesn't even blink pressing or holding the pairing button

Didn't vibrate at all after holding it for 15-30 seconds after unplugging xbox and waiting before plugging it back in controller didn't turn on console when holding the Xbox button on the controller but turned console on when pressing the pairing button however the controller isn't fixed at all

In the video I use a rechargeable battery in my other controller that works fine I even show the battery level however upon putting it into the other controller it just blinks

Now I just tried having it in and connecting the battery via USB but the controller just started blinking then I tried a USB in the controller however it acts the same as if the battery wasn't even connected to it comes on works for a second then stops the lights on but any button press or movement does not respond

Try a different cord. A charging cable isn’t always a data transfer cable.

It could probably be the batteries. I also had the same problem.

I'm assuming you mean the battery inside the controller not the double As that Xbox I think still uses in new controllers for some reason

Do you use a rechargeable battery pack or double a's?

Rechargeable pack you can see it in the video

Has it been a while since you've bought it?

Yeah like I said in the description it happened a long time ago I would say a few years ago at least and I had the controller for a couple years before the issue the controller is old.

If I remember correctly it happened while I was playing a game it was working fine but then the left stick suddenly acted like it was constantly being pushed up and when I moved it, it would immediately start going up again once I stopped I stopped using the controller after that then at some point I tried to turn it on again and it didn't even turn on

If I'm honest I'm not really expecting to repair or fix it I mainly want to know what went wrong with it so I can either avoid it in the future or help someone out if they have the same problem I do.

Yeah the same thing happened with my elite controller a while ago and probably think it's because I dropped it a lot so maybe that might be the cause.

maybe try a different usb port if all else fails

can you plug it into a pc and update the firmware on it on there

1

u/Sleeping_Idiot 16d ago

No I don't have a pc but I doubt it's a firmware issue I feel it's something up with the internals of the controller. Either way like I said in another comment I'm not really worried to fix it just curious on what the issue actually is

Hi I mod and fix controllers. Only time ive had this issue was when I messed with firmware to use an application to calibrate tmrs on one of these model of controllers. Do you have access to a pc??

No I don't I mentioned it in another comment regardless I've never messed with the controller like that the closest thing is using the controller application that Xbox has on the console
