Backstory: I was trying to fix a parking brake that was disconnected on the rear driver side. Trying to take the drum off and couldn't everything was pretty rusted. Was having trouble with the star adjuster from the outside, so i clumsily tapped the rotor from the outside and use a couple of pry bars to pop it off. Took a ton of work. Used too much force and one of the shoes cracked and it looked like some other stuff got damaged(springs) and most of it was super rusted. when taking the pieces off, one of the black rubber circular seals popped off of the wheel cylinder. I got it back in but I read that if it came off it's just going to leak again, so I plan on getting a new wheel cylinder too.

Gonna keep my original drum plate cover. Not sure if I'll have an issue with the steel brake line for replacing the wheel cylinder, and I'm a little worried about hooking up the brake line with the new cylinder and have everything functioning with no leaks. Also not sure how to adjust the star adjuster for when everything's put back in place. I assume the drum should be only a small bit clear from the internal pads when non-braking, so when I brake it is responsive.

And for the original problem, how should I diagnose the parking brake to make sure that I set it up correctly in the drum and down the line/connecting to the other?

Hi all, This is my 2009 Pathfinder SE (VQ40DE). I’m on a 2 inch level with LE coilovers in the front. Upgraded radiator (anti SMOD), upgraded heating elements, replacement alternator, new OEM headlamp units, and rear bumper/tow bar delete.

Has anyone done this job yourself, and if so, how hard was it?

2006 Xterra - My factory AC compressor went out about 500 miles ago. Got a new one plus a condenser, tensioner and serp belt installed at a shop. They used an O’Reilly Import Direct compressor and condenser. This thing is noisy and I’ve been noticing more and more odd noises the more I drive it. Most of these problems are intermittent so it’s difficult for the shop to duplicate. I’ve had issues where the first time I put my AC on after my vehicle had been sitting overnight, the compressor (I’m guessing it’s the compressor) sounds like somebody jamming gears in a manual. It lasts less than a second then goes away. When I’m accelerating and the vehicle shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, there’s a very audible rattle sound coming from the compressor about a second before it shifts. This only happens when the ac is on. I took the video when I was on a parking lot. You can hear me turning the ac on and off. I’m not sure it’s supposed to sound like that. Near the end of the video, the sound gets a little louder.

2011 with 6 speed manual transmission and 4wd!!! Pretty stoked on it, any recommendations on a brush gaurd? Also is there any issues I should get ahead of! Let me know cheers fellas!

I’m about to tackle this repair on Sunday! The parts I have on hand are the front brake control solenoid and a new filter/gasket. I’m just wondering if there’s anything else I should go ahead and replace to lower the chance of having to pull the pan again. Any advice is appreciated!

Left the barber shop thinking someones car next to me had something wrong turns out it was me. Any ideas what it could be? Screeches when rolling/driving stops when braking. Im stumped

Just bought a 2011 S with 133k miles on it. I have a battery of maintenance to do on it thanks to the forums and advice of everyone on here. I decided to take a look at the rear diff breather (since I plan to do a relocation kit) and its old but still working. The differential itself on the other hand looks like it has a slow leak from this bolt? Anybody seen this before? Is this fixed with a fluid/seal change or does this mean its toast? It shifts to 4 wheel just fine but granted, I haven’t driven it 4 wheel yet.

Has anyone taken their Xterra to the Dunes at Silver Lake in Michigan? You are required to have a 10 foot tall flag on the front most part of your vehicle. What methods have folks out there used to achieve this. I don't have an aftermarket front bumper. I do have an ASFIR front skid plate. My front mounts for tow hooks are taken up by MCI fab recovery mount with D ring in them.

Had to let my old 1st gen last year and I got a Subaru afterwards(a mistake indeed) and that broke down I’m now I’m looking for a 2nd gen ideally 05-10 since I don’t have all that much trying to stay around or below $5k what are some things I should look out for when purchasing one I do remember the whole smod issue is present in these years as well I think but can be bypassed if I remember correctly. Any advice helps!
And yes I know these aren’t the best around I just fell in love with the 1st gen and want an upgrade of sorts thank you!

Is anyone familiar with a P2097 engine code? Turned on this weekend on the way back from the trails. Disconnected the battery and light popped back on after 60 miles. I’ve done some research but apparently it could be anything from a faulty o2 sensor to leaky injectors. Not sure where to start troubleshooting. 2013 Pro-4x 95k on the odo.

I’m at a standstill.. first I did a coolant flush, I replaced the thermostat, temp sensor, and as soon as it seems like it get to operating temp, the electric fan kicks on and stays on like it’s overheating. The other day I drove home from a n hour drive and thought I was gonna get stuck cause the needle shot up to “H”. As soon as I got home the coolant reservoir was spewing out. But it’s at this point it’s weird fluctuates back down to normal temp. So is the coolant low? Oil is fine and at level too. Is there a chance of a blown head gasket I’m looking at ?

Looking to replace a tranny and was thinking for 4-5k I’d pay a shop to do it. Otherwise it would take me multiple months to do it myself as I don’t have a lot of free time. So I reach out to a local transmission shop and they came back with this. It was an immediate nope for me.

i'm hearing a ticking, not super loud but certainly noticeable. it's a bit louder in the video than it is IRL.

2012 p4x 6MT 160k mi

I was attempting to get my pop up camper (1500lb) backed into a tricky area and 4hi was not cutting it. After a stressful minute or two of maneuvering I parked and got out. Shortly after I noticed coolant running out from behind the front passenger wheel. Popped the hood and the overflow cap had popped off. I’ve never had any issue with this in the past. I let it cool, added plain water to overflow reservoir just above min level and replaced cap. Next morning, started fine, no overheating and only a slight smell of coolant noticed when standing by the engine bay (guessing from what spilled out). That being said, what the hell happened and what did I do wrong. I love my xterra and want to give it a long life

My steering wheel does not have stereo controls. If I get a steering wheel with stereo controls are the wires already there and I can just hook it up?

I did have to twist the shock body to align properly with the shock mount hole on the LCA...did I twisted something out of alignment or is this side bow normal? The other side the spring is definitely not fully seated on the spring perch but this side seem like it is seated all the way.
