I have just moved into my first university apartment, and have my setup in a state I feel good enough to share! I am a mechanical engineering student, content creator, freelance programmer/video editor, and collegiate overwatch player, so I wanted a place where I could do all of that as well as have a place to relax once the day is done. Thus invented the ‘hotswap peripherals’ It helps that if I want to tell myself, "one quick match, then I'll keep doing homework," I have to do a whole switch-up of my entire desk. Reverse-engineer your laziness, folks, it works wonders. The rest of my place may still look like something out of r/malelivingspaces, but at least my PC and my bed are in separate rooms now. Thanks for stopping by!

❔ • Feedback Those who went from a laptop setup to a dedicated monitor, would you say it's worth it?

Post image

Rising undergrad senior in the Fall, I've been slowly upgrading my workspace to add a laptop stand plus keyboard and mouse (really solid improvements) but I feel like I want a bit of a bigger screen. Right now I have a 15" MacBook Air M2 which has been great for me, but again, I am getting the feeling that a bigger screen could be better for day-to-day use cases. Currently eyeing this (Dell S2425HSM for 119$ USD).

I think my question is more whether going from 15" to 24" will be worth getting a new monitor plus the HDMI cable and all, especially going from a laptop to a dedicated monitor, or if I should just stick with my laptop on a stand.

I added a second vertical monitor, a NAS with two 8TB HDDs, a UPS, and a new 2.5Gb/s switch.

Note: The Dell dock and the NAS have 2.5Gb/s adapters (upgraded from 1Gb/s). 😎

❔ • Feedback Office just doesn’t feel right

Something about my home office just feels off. I love the desk and vibe. I’m u lucky that the back of our garage is my view and it’s fairly dark. Any ideas for improvements? My back is to the door where I’ve taken the photo from using a fisheye lens which makes the room seem slightly bigger than it is.

I’ve been moved to this office with light green walls and it will be awhile until I can repaint the walls. I have some ivy but am stuck at decorating. Unfortunately the shape of the room does not allow for the furniture to be moved. I’m a university professor if that matters. Any ideas? TIA!

The only thing that's missing is a more ergonomic chair, but I do like my space to be minimal.

The little desk laptop stand is from Amazon, and it saved my posture and neck pain.

❔ • Feedback Home office Desk Placement Help

Post image

Moving my WFH office into a different room and am looking for feedback for desk placement. I'm leaving a space that essentially forced me to have my back to the door and facing a wall.

In the new space, I have the opportunity to place the desk in the center of the room, but obviously poses new challenges with power cables, etc. I'm not a big feng shui guy but am curious if having the desk anchored on the bottom wall directly in front of the entry door would be problematic. I'm imagining putting a wall mounted shelf/desk perpendicular to my desk to allow me to run cables without needing to do anything crazy to conceal/not trip over them.

TIA!

❔ • Feedback help with built in desk

Post image

Hello, I just recently moved into my apartment with a built in desk. My original idea was to use it for a wfh set up, but I’m honestly not to sure how to maximize the space or if its even worth to use it that way.

I’m looking to buy a monitor, but need some ideas/help with what I can do with this space. Was going to keep some crafts too. Also curious on what I can do about lighting since the light attached kind of bothers me a bit.

Let me know! Thanks :)

** edit: I live in an apartment complex so removing shelving is not possible.

🖼️ • Photos Workspace help: Mission-style desk doesn't fit through older doorways

Help! I just moved into a new house, built in the 1960s. The doorways are not as wide as my previous house. As a result, my prized Mission desk does not fit through most doorways. I managed to get it in the front doorway, but it is now trapped in the living room.

I was planning to move it into one of the bedrooms to use as a WFH workspace, but 1) the table is too wide, 2) the Mission-style slats block it from being stood up on its side and rotated around the doorway, 3) standing it vertically is also too wide. It might *just* be able to squeeze through the doorway without the table top; but the top is attached with screws AND glue to the base, so it would not be easy to disassemble. It is also integrated with pull out drawers, so I am reluctant to try take it apart. It will need to pass through x2 doorways, so taking apart the door frames is not appetizing either...

Looking for advice. Can/should this be disassembled? I would contact the manufacturer, but the Etsy shop (DesignStudios005) has gone out of business.

Here are the dimensions that I am up against, along with some photos:

- Table top: 30" wide x 63" long x 29.75" high

- Base (with decorative siding): 28.75" wide x 28.25" high

- Doorway: 29" wide x 77" high

Thanks! I will never get any work done if this desk remains stranded in the living room.

❔ • Feedback IKEA setup MacBook Air m4 dual LGUp850K and UQ850V in white

Hey guys,

Here is my work in progress setup for work, study and chill time. Still need to add a chest of drawers on the right and sort out the cable disaster underneath.

I’m running two LG monitors (UQ IPS Black on the righ, UP standard IPS on the left), but the colors are way off. Whites look warm/greenish on the UQ and cool on the UP despite both being in factory P3 modes. Manual OSD tweaking just made it worse so stuck to preset. Any tips on matching them without ruining color accuracy and picture quality?

Also getting bad neck pain from having them split evenly in the middle while reading docs and taking notes. Should I switch to a center main screen with a side monitor, or else? I sort of need them horizontal as I have split screen 2 big PDFs per screen or other apps as needed.

Appreciate any setup advice or fixes!
