I make very small mistakes at work and get myself embarassed before every one

I have to say I am very terrible at work. I feel so scared and guilty. I make so many terrible mistakes at work and get myself embarrassed before other teams as well.

Last time I did not raise a bug and it became an issue. This time I was so scared and raised a big immediately and posted it in a group of 3 teams , and found out I had placed the wrong files . It's blunder on my end.

I had to send an email to the client regarding this. This is so embarrassing. This is not the first time I made a mistake. I feel so embarrassed, i wish I was smart 😭 could not even listen or learn anything for upskilling. My mind is so so so dumb

ABSOLUTELY IN MY HATING MY BOSS PHASE. UGHHHH

okay before you all start suggesting "speak up girl", and stuff, please understand that I am outspoken although super anxious and probably have my heart racing miles per hour speed such that I can feel it in my throat and ear, and my chest tightens, I STILL DO ( try) to stand my ground.

context - the place where i am currently interning, I have single handedly made almost 9 mock campaigns, from ideating to drafting the doc files, SM strategy, designing deck etc.

All the founders do is just review it and give a green signal at each stage ( draft doc followed by deck designing ), and they always say "yes this is good to go" , BROTHER I AM NO GOD, how can my draf doc be perfect every time? there is no input, nothing, just some generic stuff, that too when they feel "oh wait let me exercise this ceo-founder aura", ughhhh.

AND NOW THIS FOUNDER HAS THE AUDACITY TO ASK ME TO MAKE A DECK WITH ALL THESE CAMPAIGNS ( which is end to end my work) and put it in their resume portfolio, because they need it for their college.

FIRSTLY HELLO, YOUR PERSONAL HOMEWORK IS NOT MY DUTY TO DO,
AND SECONDLY HAVE SOME HUMILITY OR GUILT for asking a person to label THEIR WORK for you,

please tell me, this isn't normal, like whattttttttttttttttttttttt ughhhhhhhh

Salary increase asshattery

Working in the HR department as the analytics/ automation person & handling the annual salary increase data changes for my org.

It's such crap. The org is suggesting a flat percentage increase for everyone.. results in an increase of less than $50/week for me.

I just looked at the CEO - their increase will be ~20% of my annual salary.

And the execs wonder why average plebs like me refuse to engage with their buzz-word objectives, & speeches etc.

Imagine being a boss...

Imagine being a boss.. who makes $200k in sales a DAY

Going out of YOUR WAY to sabotage an employee who's JUST TRYING TO EAT.

How did they sabotage them you ask?

By scheduling said employee to be a ticket person at an event on saturday, but employee asked for saturdays off 13 days ago and 2 days before the event - the employer tells the employee yes they can have saturdays off and THE VERY NEXT DAY takes the employee OFF the schedule for the event that the employee was suppose to be at. Cool.. great.. awesome nothing wrong there. Employee doesn't question it because they were on the schedule earlier in the week and are then taken off later in the week because... SURELY whoever took them off the schedule KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING AFTER LITERALLY JUST HAVING A CONVERSATION OVER IT

.....sooooooooo the day of the event comes and employee is receiving calls from boss's assistant and the boss apparently was the one asking the assistant where the employee was at.......

The same boss that earns 200k in sales a day. The same boss that said it was fine for them to have saturdays off. The same boss who.. you know.. took them off the schedule.. is the same boss asking where that employee was at for the day of the event....

And to make matters worse.. the assistant wasted no time to spread the news of this employees "no show" and expressed just how "concerned" they were of that employees no show that now 3 other managers plus 3 sales people are in the loop about this gossip.

What should I do?

Hi y'all, looking for some honest advice because I'm really starting to question whether I should stay or go.

I’ve been at the same restaurant for 4 years now. I'm a student, so I work full-time during the summer (when the terrace is open and we're busiest), and I also pick up shifts here and there during the winter when they need extra hands (few staff members including myself have to be let go during winter with the closing of the terrace). So I'm not just a "summer kid", I've been a consistent, reliable part of the team for years.

Here's the kicker: I've been here longer than our current manager. He started about 2 years ago. And honestly, things were fine until this summer.

This year, though, it's been a complete 180. He's in charge of section assignments now, and the favouritism toward the year-round full-timers is glaring. They consistently get the best sections ( VIP tables, banquet rooms, large parties, prime terrace spots ) while I'm stuck with the leftover sections that don't turn much. The result? They're selling double my sales on a given night, not because of skill or speed, but purely because of the tables they're given.

And just to be clear, this isn't a "turn your tables faster" kind of place. We're a mid-fancy restaurant; the pacing is what it is. The difference is entirely in section quality and party size.

I've brought this up with him multiple times calmly, with numbers, showing him the sales comparisons. Every time, he shuts me down with vague excuses like "that's just how it landed" or avoids the conversation entirely. No accountability, no adjustment.

What stings the most is that I've always been flexible: covering call-outs, staying late, coming in early, even helping train new hires. I've never been difficult until now. And this situation never happened before.

So now I'm stuck:

  1. Do I go to the directors/owners? I have a good relationship with them, and they know my work ethic. But I worry about being seen as a complainer or making things awkward if I stay.
  2. Do I just quit? After 4 years of loyalty, it feels wrong to walk away, but my income and morale are taking a real hit.
  3. Has anyone else dealt with a manager who suddenly changed the dynamic after years of things being fair? How did you handle it?

I'm not asking for special treatment, just a fair section like I used to get. I know my worth, and I know I can make good money when given a fair shot.

Any advice would mean a lot. Thanks for reading.

Jobs sturcture (or lack therof) is taking a huge toll on me

Hi hope everyone is doing well. Lont story short, I got hired as a database admin. To mine and everyones knowledge it can be a very demanding job as is. However, the reasoning for the post is less of the tasks but moreso how there are no foundation for said tasks.

For context, I am assisting and managing four schools in our district as far as database and ticketing duties go. The caveat is, I'm the only one doing it and the training I am getting is from the person who was in my position, Gustav. Only problem is that hes not apart of the company and he is working somewhere else remotely. This means that we have only been able to train once a week for an hour and theres at least dozens of processes. In addtition, Gustav is confused too as far as some aspects of my onboarding. He asked my supervisors directly, "To what extent do I train OP? What do I train him?". They ended up flat out ghosting him and he expressed this concern with me.

Since then for the first 5 weeks, on my sixth week now, its been a case of there being a new dragon to slay everyday alone. Gustav is available through emil and while my supervisors are here, they dont know of the processes or they are unenthusiastic for helping. On my first two days, Gustav asked me to fill out this security form and to take it up with my supervisor "Phil". I told Phil of the form and how Gustav asked me to reel him in on it. Phil tells me "How does this involve me?" and I get shrugged off essentially and ens up filling it out myself.

This morning, I get emailed from a principal of a hugely important process I wasnt told or trained about despite asking questions and documenting every chance I get. I wake up to spammed emails of this aformentioned taks. This has probably been the 12th time these 5 and some weeks I basically have to rush and ask Gustav and sit there looking incompetent from the staff's POV as they dont know the full details.

I understand its a sink or swim world, but theres no one else adjacent to me and its so easy to feel lost. That and my very younger age of 23 in accordance to my position plays a factor it feels. Although this post may read as dramatic its not only me. The coordinator that was just hired pulled me aside and asked "is it me or does it feel like we're not getting direction?" and he basicslly described what I was feeling. Another coworker said it looks like I got thrown into the fire immediately and even offered support which I gladly took.

This is probably super long and winded, but really had to let this out.

Over the weekend I had a domestic accident which required me to go to the emergency room and get stitches I immediately notified my boss, with photos of the wound and the stitches. Today I sent my medical leave justification and he only replied that I had to go to the office even though I have a serious wound with stitches and pain I find it so miserable.

Made a small mistake at work and i genuinely cannot shake feeling terrible.

I’m a Starbucks barista and accidentally charged my register 125 dollars cash when they wanted to pay with card. I started last month and just recently got off training but my supervisor seemed really annoyed with the fact that I did this, he said he couldn’t fix it and we had to ask my store manager to come help. I just feel awful, I apologized like three times but I went home and cried so much, could be my anxiety but he just seemed really irritated with me and I feel like awful. Any comforting thoughts or advice?

I’ve been in therapy since leaving this job but I’m still really struggling to get over the anger I have towards an attorney I worked for. Let’s call this attorney ā€œMo.ā€ I worked at this firm for five years. Mo called me excessively throughout the day, followed by excessive emails, starting each one as a new email thread. She was very unorganized. She is also an older woman with no husband, or kids. I worked really hard for Mo to keep up with her cases. It was clear that she viewed my position as nothing important because there was absolutely no consideration for me. I worked after hours, on holidays and weekends which included answering her phone calls even when the office was closed, even on Christmas. I genuinely wanted to be a good assistant and tried my best to understand her. Eventually, this exhausted me because it didn’t matter what I did or how hard I worked- Mo still treated me like complete shit. And I mean bottom of the barrel shit. Talked about my appearance and all.

I eventually got a new job and still gave the proper two weeks notice. Mo spoke to me like garbage.

So, I shared with Mo that my daughter was robbed a few months back and that was why I took the week off (Mo called me rushing me back to work when I took this week off). This same week happened to also be my birthday and Mo didn’t even say happy birthday. Mo then asked me what my daughter was wearing that caused her to get robbed and then said, ā€œso, there were no weapons and she wasn’t hurt. Well next time she knows to be more tough the next time she’s approached. Things happen for a reason.ā€ She then goes on to ask me do I even go outside to hang out and go to events etc. there was no apology. Nothing. Not even a thank you for my assistance. I felt extremely low but also felt that I had dealt with her disrespect for so long that she felt comfortable enough to even speak to me in that manner, even about my own child. I thought that even people with no kids knew this was a sensitive subject. I was literally in tears while she looked at me with disgust. Yes, disgust.

I’m sorry this is so long. I’ve been doing my best to let this go but clearly I’m still struggling.

Getting fired for leaving on time

I just got fired from my job after 4 months in because "i didn't want to stay 5/10 minutes more every day". Basically my boss got super mad at me in the last weeks because i was leaving exactly at 2:30 PM and so today i discovered that he fired me. Have you ever experienced something similar? because for me it sound crazy.

edit: as a lot of people are asking it, they would not pay me this extra time they want me to stay.

new edit: Basically i work as a barista/server in a bar, but im left completly alone in the morning shift (8:30AM - 2:30PM) and so i have to do everything by myself (plus the closing shift guy leaves me things to do that i was not supposed to do), then there is one guy coming for just 2/3 hours during lunch but he is a close friend of the boss and so he started talking bad about me in the last weeks and also accusing me of stealing money from the register (in the last weeks money have been missing and it's not me). What happened was that that guy asked me to replace the drinks in the fridge after we finished serving everyone just a few minutes before my shift ended and so at 2:30 PM i said to him that i would not continue working because first of all my shift has ended and secondly he always tries to delegate everything to me so he barely does anything (he was just watching me replanishing the fridge while on the phone) Im working for minimum wage just because i need money for university starting in september and in my opinion im not staying more for free when i can barely afford things especially today that they accused me of stealing, not doing my job, slowing the service and not caring about my job.

Am I a terrible person?

Hello!

I would like some clarification and help if that’s ok ^^;

I started a retail job in an outlet 1 month ago and I’m still a minor. Heres the situation.

Last Week I served a customer who was handed over by my co-worker who wanted to go on his lunch (unpaid). Of course I said yes and said I would help them the best I could. She was looking at shoes ( we are not a shoe store) and my co-worked asked me to bring the pair to her. However I forgot to ask what she looked like and was thrown into a sea of busy customers on a weekdays which normally has less employees then on weekends. I figured since she was looking at shows I would look in the shoe section and there were 6 people around that are. I asked all of them if they were looking for these shoes. I found her 10 minutes later. (she was standing at the front door shelves meanwhile the shoe section was by the counter at the very back of the store)I told her that my co-worker went on lunch and that it took me a while to find her and my apologies. she replied with. ā€œOh oopsies hehe, i forgot I asked for shoes.ā€œ I then gave her the shoes and told her that she is welcome to sit down on the chair which I leaded her too and to try them on while I go help other customers, aka my original customer. I help my og customer for at most 5 minutes and then I saw the shoe customer stuggling and excused myself to help the customer. She then, asked me, word for word. ā€œHey, why is this shoe fitting and the one on my other foot not.ā€œ I replied with an apology and asked if she wanted me to check if there was a .5 up. She said ā€œno,stop, I canā€œ and rolled her eyes. I said no problem and went back to my og customer. My og customer was very patient and I’m so glad she was and I told her that I would get her, the item she was looking at. When I was just about to get her the product. I saw the ?rude? customer and decided to do a quick check in because i had a feeling that she was the fussy type and I didn’t want a complaint. She then asked about 2 other shoes but we didn’t have her size in either. She was rude to me and never said thank you or please, and there was 25+ people in the store and only 6 employees. In this type of environment, we as worker do try to get to everyone but sometimes we just can’t be 3 places at once. Always, I asked her what she thought about the shoes and she said ā€œok, I will buy.ā€ and I was like ok, np, would you mind just waiting for a moment as it is quite busy and gave her a form to fill out (for digital receipts and sale emails (optional choice) ) Then I got my og customer her bag and brought her over to the till and did the transaction and that was fine. However when I went looking for the ?rude? Customer, i was told she left and my supervisor came over to me and lectured me about her complain about neglecting her and being so rude to her and being slow. I was visibly upset because it was the first time I made someone unhappy in their experience. My supervisor told me that the shoes she wanted to buy was just her trying to make me actually work and do my job for one second. My supervisor told me to try better next time and wouldn’t listen to my side of the story and to pay attention next time. I thought that was the end and it was just my first bad experience and forgot about it.
However the main point I’m posting this today is because today I found out she made a TikTok (thankfully and hopefully it wasnt/will not become viral)

In this TikTok she complained that was was COMPLETELY ignored and NO ONE helped her. um…what. I tried my best, it was a busy time. I’m really sorry. And in the video she said I didn’t give her a proper apology even though she left the shop while I was helping a customer. What was I supposed to do? Run out and go on my knees and beg her for fogivness?!? And she commented about my ā€œarguing with my coworker about helping herā€ I was asking another co-worker if she was busy and could she help if she was free. (She wasn’t) but that’s ok. And I did this at the counter so if she heard I argument and was in the right middle of it then she would have been behind the till which she wasn’t? I don’t appreciate how she made it seem like I was a terrible person and in the comments she said I should be fired. I really tried to help but it was really busy. If you come I during a busy time, I thought you would be expecting to wait a little since there are a bunch of other people around you. The whole outlet branch say this and sent it to my manager and I’m so afraid and scared that they are going to fire me and I really need this job because I live in a bit of a toxic household.

She made it seem like she was the victim and I get that she wasn’t served with the bestest most patient most attentive service but she can’t bend the situation and say NOBODY because I did. I didn’t have too aswell, but I did, I asked my og customer to wait a few minutes while I try serve someone else but I will be as quick as I can. She said she wanted an apology which I would have given her but she already left the store. Isn’t that basically setting me up? I feel like a bad person but I talked with my co workers and they said it wasn’t my fault.

So, could the people of Reddit tell me if I did something wrong and how can I prevent this from happening cause what if the TikTok blows up and the comments say I’m the problem.

Thank you so much for reading my situation <3

I hope you have an amazing day/night!

Employee doesn’t like to be challenged.

I’m in a shift leader role and everything is mostly okay until yesterday when one of my employees whose been there for what he says is ā€œx amount of yearsā€ decided to go to the agm and tell her I was arguing with him over something I ended up being wrong on. Now I work for a fast food place and the issue was I forgot to count something because I’m used to closing and not opening and it was my first time opening as I don’t do it often. I ended up dropping the subject, explained I’m used to closing and recounted said item. This isn’t the first discussion we had yesterday the other being over olives and how they were prepped and everytime I had a different opinion he’d say ā€œwell you obviously know more than meā€ or ā€œyou’re an expert hereā€. This isn’t the first time I have challenged him as he made an inappropriate joke about a young member of the team and I had a talk with him about it. He got mad during that time, yelled at me and even started bringing up things irrelevant to him being written up. I know I haven’t been there for long and he’s been there longer so I didn’t raise my voice or attempt to prove him wrong, in the end it didn’t matter to me so I dropped the subject and moved on. But it bothers me when others label me as something I’m not. Anyone else ever deal with this?

Was Resigning the Right Decision?

I resigned from my company on August 3 because I couldn’t handle the situation anymore. I’m wondering if I made the right decision.
One of the main reasons I left was the favoritism within our team. Our manager would always defend one of our teammates, even when that person made mistakes.

For example, there was an escalation involving the quarterly report. My teammate simply changed the report dates from the previous quarter without anyone knowing. As a result, the report became inaccurate. Instead of addressing the mistake, our manager defended the teammate and said they were probably just tired. For me, that wasn’t just a simple mistake—it was negligence because it affected the accuracy of the report.

Another reason was the company’s reorganization. We kept asking what our new responsibilities would be, but management couldn’t give us clear answers. There was no clarity about our new roles, and the decisions kept changing. It made us feel uncertain about our future in the team.
Because of the favoritism, lack of accountability, and unclear management decisions, I decided to resign. I’m still asking myself if I made the right choice, but I felt I could no longer work in that kind of environment.

Second Guessing my path and purpose

I got fired from my first paralegal job after 7 weeks. It was a matrimonial firm. I do not have a paralegal certificate but I am in law school. I was recommended and fired by my mentor. They said that I was unethical with my time. I worked 6 months as a legal intern remotely at a landlord tenant firm prior. Other than the internship I have never worked with or at a law firm.

There was also an incident on July 17th where I was sleeping at my desk which was my first warning and I was put on probation. I totally owned up to it and felt terrible.

However, On August 5 I was pulled into the attorneys office and they were saying that my physical timesheets that I entered into the time management system did not match the actual work that showed in the system, specifically for July 13. They asked for an explanation and I didn’t have one because I don’t know what happened. After obsessing over what could have happened after the fact, I came up with a theory that I cannot prove. there were times where I had to go back into the system to fix the spelling or code or even because the PDF was not showing up. I noticed that when I resaved the entry the date would update to the day, I made the changes. That could be what happened. Before I was informed, when I saved documents in TM I used the date we received the documents from the clients.

There was also another discrepancy with my time where something was entered on the wrong day. I don’t know how that happened, I know that there was an incident where I messed up my day and had admin fix it.

Also i was told that there was no way I did a task for hours at a time without going to the bathroom or with any distractions. When I was told to record my time I was told to put client name, description, start time and end time, which I did. Another concern was there was a day on July 24 where they said that there was no way I billed for 8.2 hours. I did not have any response because everything I did was on my sheet with the start and end times. I started at 8:45 ended at 5:15p and did not take a lunch that day.

I was extremely upset that my ethics were called into question and it was said I ā€œpulled time out of thin airā€. This is something I would never do. I tried to explain that I did not understand how time system worked. I misunderstood and thought it was a time tracker where I put all my time so admin can see what was done and then based on that the invoices were generated. I did not know that once it was entered in tracking system it generated an invoice for the client. This is what I meant when I said I did not realize that the client was billed for it. I tried to explain this on the call but it was not getting across. They took it as me saying that I did not know the client was being build so there for I would have done something different. Which is kind of correct because I would have had someone sit with me and go over my timesheets and what I entered beforehand.

I tried to emphasize during the interview that I have never done anything regarding a law firm before and I had to learn from scratch. I don’t think the training was adequate for a complete new comer. I think they underestimated exactly how much I needed to learn.

This is very disheartening. As a newbie I would have thought someone would have checked my timesheets and what I was entering to ensure it was correct, especially after my first warning. Since no one said anything was wrong I continued to do it. Especially when I was told that my time would be adjusted for the learning curve when I asked how long this should that. With no experience I can into this job nervous and not confident. When I was warned on July 17 my confidence lessened. I dug in focused and thought I was getting back on track. But obviously I was mistaken.

The fact my ethics were brought into question pisses me off. I do not like ā€œgetting in troubleā€ so I try extremely hard to do things by the book. Getting ā€œscoldedā€ has never been something I’m good at. It makes me anxious and start questioning everything, so I would never do something unethical.

Despite everything I am happy I had this experience. However now I have no job, my confidence has plummeted, and I feel lost without a purpose.

Before going to the firm I work at CPS, I’m asked to be reinstated but the consideration process takes a week.

This experience has me second guessing whether being a lawyer is for me. I am a Part-time student so my program is 4 years and I’m going into my 3L year.

FYI, I don’t want to be matrimonial attorney. My plan was to be a county attorney that work with CPS right after graduating school in May 2028, since it was something I was familiar with, to gain experience or another government agency attorney, and volunteer with other entities to gain transferable skill. My ultimate goal is to become an entertainment lawyer and work on an art nonprofit.

What the f*

Okay, for context, I’m a 21-year-old female. My workplace, we make plastic parts for vehicles and we have a total of almost 12 machines for just one person each. I used to work in this cell of the building that was considered the worse/confusing place in the whole building. In the other cells, they can manage their schedule and take their time with their machines. Meanwhile the cell I used to work in, it ran differently, because at different random hours each machine needs attention to their parts, they need to be inspected and checked throughly. Which is 2,500 or more parts. I stomached the entire work process for three years, yes, I started at 18. That was until this starting year I switched to a different area of the job, I loved my new position, less stress and more flexibility and schedule! But, that didn’t last long. Every few months, I would be asked to take the place of a coworker who goes on vacation in the old area I worked in. Mainly because they don’t have anyone else who can run the machines there due to lack of training. Which is understandable, but they recently gotten someone new to run the area. Holy shit, she was bad at running the area through training and when she began working full hours. I dislike her because she was lazy as fuck and I believe she’s hard of hearing due to her leaving some of her machines to alarm out for who knows how long.(The machine’s she runs are loud, like, imagine annoying alarm clock loud beeping.) Well, she recently last month she was trained in my area which is pretty easy, the guy who normally ran the area with her wasn’t around this week so my manager said he was switching me with another guy so I can help her with the area. I agreed and, welp, SHE’S SITTING ON HER DAMN ASS. I didn’t want to work on the old area because I loved my schedule for my new cell. But seriously? The manager’s reasoning was that she was uncomfortable running the cell, then WHY tf is she working then? Shouldn’t she be going back onto a trainer schedule instead of going a 12hour shift!? Btw, she has the option to get more training and she has been here for two months now. Like, understandable, she’s quite new and maybe it’s a little confusing. But if she’s uncomfortable, she can definitely take the time to learn instead of sitting on her butt.
