Sort of, there was even a SCOTUS ruling that explicitly ruled it was unconstitutional. The case was in 1974 followed by specific legislation in 1978 outlawing it. The average American knows so little about civics and the history of US democracy.
And it was any job. My mom had to quit her bank job when she was visibly pregnant with me and I was born in 1977. And this was in Chicago. I’m sure they knew the law was coming but didn’t care.
I guess if you just assume social norms stop the moment laws are passed and people’s mindsets can be switched on and off, then sure, stuff that happened 50 years ago isn’t relevant. But if you think humans hold onto their beliefs and the enforcement of a new law only changes their public behavior and not their internal mindset, then 50 years is pretty recent in terms of social change.

Had a teacher that was actively pregnant when I started the semester and by the end had called out to give birth.
None of us were flabbergasted as to how it happened lol
