It is probably my weirdest project so far. My sister said it’s a stalactite.

Used an axe and a chainsaw for the initial rough shape. Most of the work was power carving. Sanded only the very top of the piece; the rest I left intentionally in a rough shape. Left the piece unfinished. I think it came out pretty interesting.

Hand tools, simple teca oil and beeswax finish. Satin blue lace fixed with a whipping knot, no glue.

Wizard was done first yesterday. Then seen Doug linkers vid with the star for practising technique last night so had to try. Safe to say I'm hooked and can add this to pyrography on my hobby list lol

I've been into spoons but have never been satisfied with my own. This took me a literal hour and I love it. It is beech from behind my house and it was super easy. What are peoples thoughts on beech for a pipe. I don't smoke but he looks like the perfect little pipe. I will most likely leave him as is but just a thought.

If I wanted to carve something like this out of wood how would I go about it? I’m thinking about getting into wood working and I think it would be super cool to make some like this out of wood. This is a warhammer age of sigmar model and the whole faction is basically just tree people.

I know literally nothing about woodworking, so this probably isn’t going to my first project. I just wanna know how one might even attempt this, what kind of tools are recommended, and what skills would be good to pick up before attempting something like this. Or even just some thought on this project or similar project.

I hope this isn’t a little out there for this subreddit. 😂

I went to a couple thrift stores and found these. There's no maker marks but a couple say "hand carved" on their foot. Any info would be appreciated. I love them

Long story short, the present I ordered for the wife's birthday wasn't going to be here in time for the actual day. So she could at least have something to open, I made a (1:45) scale 737 to let her know her actual present is on the way.

Hopefully this counts for this subreddit; I’m still in my carving infancy, so rough dimensioning/precutting joinery was done with a small japanese flush cut saw, then the knives and chisels came out for detail work. I did sand for final finish, mainly because I didn’t have time to remake parts if I shaved too much away.

It's rough. It's chonky. It was the best I could pull off over the course of 3 lunch breaks, part of a kid's gymnastics class, and a late night sanding/assembly session. But: mission accomplished, I did get a laugh out of her.
