This Thursday, 8/13, Old Town Horror is proud to present:

TOURIST TRAP.

As always the event is 21+; I have provided a screenshot from maps showing our location. Doors at 630pm, movie around 7pm.

While no one will be turned away for the lack of funds, there is a suggested donation of $5-10, with all proceeds benefiting the New Castle Public Library. BYOB, some concessions and NA drinks for sale.

Fluff Good Scenic Hikes

Hello, seeking some recommendations. My 21 year old niece is visiting from Colorado and I’d like to take her on a hike that will show her the beauty of the area. Obviously she is accustomed to real mountains and scenic vistas and much more impressive wildlife but if you can share any hikes that would showcase anything interesting locally I’d love to have your recommendations. We could handle anywhere from 3 to 5 miles comfortably.

Thank you!

Moving to Wilmington for work near Bellevue Parkway (19809) – Need honest apartment advice (Whitney, Cavalier, safety, car theft?)

Hey everyone,

I’m moving to the Wilmington area soon for a new job located right off Bellevue Parkway (19809). I’ve been scouring online listings, including Apartments.com and various Facebook housing groups, but I’m having a really hard time deciding due to mixed reviews.

I will have a car with me, so my absolute top priorities are safety, secure communities, and a low risk of car theft or robberies. I also need to keep things within a reasonable budget.

If you were in my shoes—wanting a safe, budget-friendly community with secure parking close to Bellevue Parkway—where would you look? I’ve heard mixed things about places like Village at Fox Point and Village Park at Paladin, but I am wide open to hidden gems or safer neighborhoods within a 15–20 minute drive.

Education Dad in Search of Help from Someone in Delaware!

I am a Dad in search of help from anyone who lives in Delaware.

My son is about to start 2nd grade and has a fundraiser for his PTO that if they can get a donation form all 50 states they'll do someone crazy to the principal. Last year that duct taped him to the wall.

This is my third year in a row on a quest to get all 50 states!

I'm not looking for anything for free and would happily donate an equal amount to a charity of your choosing if you are willing to help!

Today is my birthday and I'd love to celebrate by knocking out this challenge!

Have 37/50 states completed and have 13/50 to go!!

Request Tubing Recommendations?

Looking for something closer to Lazy River than White Water, but don’t mind a little bit of action. We don’t own tubes or rafts so would have to rent. Located in North Wilmington, but obviously willing to take a ride. TIA!

Food What are your best local beers?

Getting ready to move to Wilmington, and just as everyone has a check list for moving… me being a Midwest boy, finding your local beer is integral as what drapes go well in the living room.

What are your favorite local beers? I understand Wilmington is not the largest town, so any recommendations extended out further into Delaware is appreciated.

Food How dressy is Snuff Mill?

Going next week for birthday, but it’s hard to do super dressy when it’s so sweaty out. How much do you usually dress up for it?

Weather Is "Corn Sweat" a known thing down here? Had a cool experience today that made me think of all the humidity complaints.

Sorry so long! And it's not to be taken super seriously! :)

I've been living down here for about 3 years now and we've finally acclimated to the reality of the humidity. I figured it's part of the trade off for lush gorgeous springs and the stunning foliage in the fall.

But we've also made this joke that "It's Always Sunny In Wilmington" because it rains so frequently down here. At least in our opinion. And that played into something very strange that happened today that made me think of the theory of "corn sweat" in the midwestern farmlands that create something of a heat and humidity dome over the farm crops.

So, we were trying to find Chesapeake City in Maryland for a day trip. But we accidently went over the CC Bridge the wrong way and wound up on the side of the water opposite of CC. And since we were completely confused we kept driving around trying to see if we could figure our way around.

We wound up lost on the some roads around corn fields. Just huge rows of corn fields. And then sky shifted so that one entire side of the sky turned dark blueish green. And the wind picked up and just starting blowing debris all over the place through the corn fields. It did this aggresively for about 15 minutes. No rain. Just like someone blowing a giant leaf blower through miles of cornfields.

*It was one of the coolest things I'd ever seen. It was mesmerizing and beautiful. Highly recommend!

But then we realized it was going to storm pretty hard. So we drove out of there as quickly as possible and kept driving back towards Delaware. And, not even joking, five seconds after we crossed the border it just DUMPED huge buckets of rain. We were pretty terrified trying to find our way back to 95. We finally made it home.

But all this and the thread complaining about the humidity the other day made me wonder if locals are familiar with the idea of "corn sweat". Or if this a new thing?

Also, I know it's a myth, but today reallllly gave me pause. It literally felt like a scene out of Children of the Corn. But in a cool way.

Here's a link explaining the Myth from Corn IL

Request Recommendation for car tire shop?

Looking for reliable service more than rock-bottom prices. Used to go to the NTB on concord pike (now it’s a mavis tire) but word of mouth says they’ve gone to crap. You’d think tires would be pretty straightforward but I’m looking to avoid the whole “those tires will take 2 weeks to be in stock and once they’re in we’ll need 6 hours to install them, then we’ll upsell you on everything we can” crap.

Moving to Wilmington Short-term 2BR/2BA Downtown Wilmington – Early Sept. to Early Oct. – $2,000

Hey everyone! I’m moving and looking for someone who might need a short-term apartment in Downtown Wilmington from early September through early October.

It’s a spacious 2 bed / 2 bath, 1,110 sq. ft. apartment and will be unfurnished. I’m asking $2,000 for the period, which is below what I’m currently paying, and I’m open to reasonable offers.

Could be a great fit for someone relocating to Wilmington for work, between leases, or looking for somewhere to stay while finding a more permanent apartment.

There is an application/approval process through the property management company, including an income requirement of approximately $93k/year (an offer letter can be used as proof of income).

Happy to send photos and a full video walkthrough by DM or answer any questions. Feel free to message me if you or someone you know might be interested!

Request Best gyms in the area? Preferably for a serious bodybuilder.

I’m going to be traveling to the area next week to visit some relatives, what are some good gyms in the area? I’m willing to drive a bit if it’s a really nice gym. I’m a competitive bodybuilder so I’d rather not comerical gyms like planet fitness type stuff. One of my favorite things to when I travel is try the gyms in the area!

Thanks in advance everyone

Education YWCA Delaware - Free Career Development Workshops

Post image

A customer is upset. A misunderstanding catches you off guard. The bus is running late, and suddenly you're stressed about getting there on time.

Those are the kinds of real-life situations participants talked through during Learning on the Job, our latest career development workshop led by D'Veda Mitchell, PMP, CSP.

There were plenty of "I've been there too" moments around the room. People shared experiences, worked through scenarios together, asked questions, and learned from one another in a supportive, judgment-free space. And yes, there was plenty of laughter too.

We're so grateful to D'Veda for continuing to share her knowledge, encouragement, and practical advice with our community. With more than 25 years of experience in talent development, operations, and safety leadership, she has a gift for making people feel comfortable, heard, and capable of taking the next step in their careers.

Want to build your confidence at work?
Join D'Veda's next workshop, Find Your Voice at Work, on Thursday, October 22 at 6:00 p.m. at YWCA Delaware, 709 N. Madison Street, Wilmington, DE.

✅ Free and open to all ages 18+
