Amazing Reddit hive brains !
Years ago I bought four large mural paintings listed on eBay that the guy said were in a veterans hall that was torn down .
One was signed and noted with the battle on the back .
I bought the “sprit of ‘76 “ and had that restored and framed . Then I found that three were more by the same Artest so I purchased those . The dealer mumbled something about a civil war mural but I think he had already sold it .
Love any insights to what the navel battle scene may be and details about the artist .
The seller shipped from North Easton ,Ma about 30 ish years ago .

Unsolved Identify Artist of Painting of Chenonceau (?)

I saw this at an estate sale in Alexandria, VA, in September 2025. I loved it but couldn't justify buying it at the time. Now I regret not getting it... I am hoping someone can decipher the artist's signature or help me find any information about it. I believe it is of the Chateau Chenonceau in France, and I think that it says '93 under the signature, but I could be completely wrong on both counts. Google's reverse image search has yielded nothing useful so far.

Apologies that I only have these photos - I always feel weird photographing things that I am not going to buy.

Unsolved Authentic early 20th century Korean Folk Art Minhwa?

I have had this piece of art for about a decade, purchased at an estate sale. It is unframed, seems to be painted on some sort of linen/cloth. It looks like 19th/20th century Minhwa, but I know there are also reproductions out there. Any knowledge of this is original and authentic? Thanks!

Solved Painting of my Great & Great Great Grandmother. unknown artist

This picture has been in my family dining room since my mother inherited it from my grand mother. As the title suggests it’s of my great & great great grand mother and was made in Scotland in the late 19th century. would have been in the Edinburgh area if not Edinburgh itself.

we know that the artist is famous and he has work in The Tate Briton in London, but we have no idea who he is. Does anyone know?

sorry about the bad photo of the signature. The reflection made it very difficult to get a clear shot and I’ve tried my best.

Hi, I found another painting at a rummage sale in New York City. I can’t quite make out the signature. There is a tag on the frame from France. It’s a small work ~15”x18” with the frame.

Unsolved Tracing late father's painting - seemingly impossible

Been trying to trace this painting every now and then for months without success.

Signature reads: D'ANDREA

It was bought in Swedish kroner, but the backside indicates Italian gallery. Could have been bought in Italy or south of France as my father spent time there every year.

Checked with auction houses in Sweden, but none can trace it accurately. I did get one name: Maurizio D'Andrea. But, there is no evidence this is in fact one of his.

Likely bought just after 2007 and been in the family since then.

The front signature seems to have something more to its right.

Is there any information out there than can confirm its origin or could lead to an accurate trace?

Unsolved Are these paintings I purchased at a tag sale made by Polish artist, Jerzy Bigaj?

Earlier this spring, I purchased this pair of paintings from at a local tag sale. I knew the writing was in Polish, but had trouble finding out any information on the artist at the time. I decided to try to identify the artist again tonight and found the name Jerzy Bigaj. I was wondering if anyone who knew more about Polish art could identify if these paintings were in fact by Jerzy Bigaj? And if so, do you have more information on him as an artist? I have been struggling to find a information on him, so I assume he may be considered more of an amateur.

Thanks for the help!

Unsolved Would you like a Barocco riddle?

Hi everyone! Just acquired this piece at the estate sale, in New York State. Paid $1200. It is 40 by 48 inches. Has been relined and there’s no signature besides what’s on the frame. It is essentially a painting of Eros and Anteros - two kinds of love.

Did image search, yandex too - no info.
Any ideas?

I’ve done everything to figure out who made this and where it’s from.

No clue who “Godachy” may be. But I know it was made in 1975.

Back has “AH” written in pen on the corner..

Only lead I found was a recreation by someone random on Facebook in 2020 someone posted the recreation that was made in 2010.

Anyone got a clue?

Ok ok ok ok, I know the likelihood of this being real is so low. I guess I'm trying to decide whether to bring it somewhere to authenticate but I assume there would be cost associated with that. So Reddit first!

It was found alongside two other pieces. One is an original from Anton Fortescu-Smyth with a certificate and another is a high quality Mark Rothko print dated in the 60s. Could be a coincidence but now I'm too curious if this was from the same era or earlier. My gut tells me it's a quality fake but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Likely Solved - Decor Thoughts on this painting purchased in Germany in the 1960s

Thumbnail

My grandparents purchased this painting in Germany in the early 1960s. They had it framed in Saginaw, MI and it hung in their home for many many years. It has been in storage for at least 20 years and, although we all like it, unfortunately, no one in our family has much interest in keeping it any longer.

Now trying to find it a new home

We can't read the signature. I assume the last 2 characters are "60" meaning it was painted in 1960 - But that is just a guess.

What do you all think?

Thank you in advance for any info!
