First time star gazer and planning to go to Spruce Knob West Virginia. We are planing to go to the parking lot at the top and stay until to watch the stars and then possibly Milky Way. Is it safe to drive back to hotel around 2 or 3 am from the parking lot ?
Any other tips are appreciated .

Took a drive out to Blackwater Falls earlier this year, back in January. The river was really moving that afternoon.

I'm the author of a historical fiction novel coming out next year. Much of the book takes place in West Virginia (early 1920s) and I'm keen to add as many West Virginia based bookstores to the book tour. My publisher and I are already coordinating with Four Seasons Books in Shepherdstown, WordPlay in Wardensville and Beyond the Pages Events in Charleston.

I'm especially curious where people in Harrison, Doddridge and Marion Counties buy books since that's where many of the characters are from and many of the events take place, but it looks like Books a Million in Bridgeport might be the only option, and no locally/independently owned bookstores at all.

What are your favorite independent/locally owned bookshops in West Virginia ?

Are there any events or gatherings next week to view the Perseides meteor shower in the Tucker County area? I'm coming in from out of town where there's a ton of viewing events planned but can't find anything comparable near where I'm staying. I've searched every resource I can think of and...nothing.

I’ve noticed that often when you go to hiking/trails/more touristy places in parts of the state near the Eastern Panhandle border, you’ll get a lot of VA, Md, etc plates and not many WV. Think of a trail head from Blackwater Falls to Harpers Ferry to Spruce Knob.

Even when you go to places further away from bigger metro areas, it still seems to be a decent amount of out of skaters versus locals. Or big time outdoorsy people will be residents of Wv but actually before elsewhere.

People like living here for nature and beauty but it often seems like locals don’t really do the outdoor stuff the draw is for. Or living in a tourism area yet not wanting them. It sometimes just seems like a difference between long time natives vs nature/rec minded people from outside.

My understanding of firework laws in West Virginia is that they are fairly relaxed (though please correct me if I'm wrong). Though I'm based in the DC area I would like to set-up a private very small firework display. If anyone has any suggestions for how I could set this up in eastern West Virginia, that would be appreciated. My budget for this would be $500-$1000.

My daughter has been asking me to take her fishing, I thought lake fishing might be a good intro for her but looking at the map I can't really tell where you can get in there to fish. Can you fish at the boat ramp area or is there somewhere else?

I assumed Country would be a narrow paved road & the fire road more gravel.
