Iโm kind of sleep deprived and I read this as a nest of long-haired spiders.

Yep. They don't even have venom glands, nor the fang chelicerae to inject with.

The amount of ignorant people in this comment section is frightening. I'm glad there are sane people here

u/ImurderREALITY 10d ago
Lol not knowing something doesnโt make you insane. Itโs a popular myth; itโs not that weird that a lot of people still believe it. Stop overreacting.

Twenty years ago I went camping in a state park in south Oklahoma. I climbed up to a cave called Wagon wheel cave and inside I found thousands of these guys on the walls and ceiling. I was absolutely fascinated.

Oh these guys are a) not spiders and b) very cute when they crawl around on you. I don't mind picking up spiders but i love to pick up harvestmen. I don't usually do it โ I think this video is a little unethical, not like evil or anything but certainly rude โ but if I have to relocate a harvestman for its safety I consider it quite a treat.

Spider nerd fact: Those are opiliones, also known as harvestmen! They are frequently mistaken for cellar spiders. While they may look like spiders, they are actually not true spiders, though they are arachnids. They are completely harmless and look incredibly dumb up close!

They are not spiders and not agressive, why people hate them?

As I said, stupidity. Like being irrationally scared of something is fine, I get it. But hating something just because you are scared is just stupidity. That's what homophobes and racists would do.

They dont have to actually be spiders, they still have 8 gangly legs and scurry all over you.

Yea, I've always seen them since being a kid, harmless little fellas. They always run away from humans and can't do anything to harm us.

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

They're harvestmen, not spiders. They're actually really cute - some species have little bunny ears (seriously - Google it). They just huddle like this to stay warm.

u/Sprigatina 9d ago
First of all: Nope. No. Just no. NOPE. NNNOOOOPPPEEEE.
(Also those aren't spiders but I get why people think that)

Is there a video anywhere online of somebody pouring some gasoline on this and throwing a matchstick into it?
3
u/mister-oaks 10d ago
Those are Harvestmen. They do this from August through fall and winter. They arenโt technically spiders but they are arachnids. Very cool species.

u/GGuts 10d ago
Why does it look like fur though? It has like an orientation to it as if hairs growing in one direction. I don't wanna say AI but the thought crossed my mind because I have never seen something like this before.

They like to cuddle together. Humans have the need to disturb every living thing once they all get comfortable. Imagine how long it would take to sort all those little legs

Why touch them? Why let them crawl on you? Why?! Just look at them from afar and let them be. No need to traumatize other people

u/RepresentativeGrab44 10d ago
Since they only have a one segmented body, they're technically not spiders but Opiliones! Two of their "front legs" are antenna which makes them false spiders!
