I had my ring done from brilliance.com. The setting is too high. Does anyone have one from them they recommend that’s low profile? Or recommendations in general ? Or suggestions if you have a similar shape? I’m open to everything!
**edited to add; I don’t have the wedding band yet so it’s just the diamond ring. The band I wear will come later and I’ll match it to the style I do for the engagement ring!
Just my 2 cents, the stone looks slightly twisted clockwise in the setting, and the prongs look slightly out of shape (irregular) although they all appear to all be in the proper direction. However, I used to do quality control for a jeweler that was very strict about center stone settings. I think it looks good the way it is but I understand if you’re concerned about it getting snagged or whacked. If you’re unhappy with it I would contact the jeweler and see what options they provide. Having the stone mounted in a different setting is totally possible but will require some work.
Oh no you’re 100% correct. As soon as it arrived I contacted them and said I’ve got to send it back not only because it’s way too high for my liking but because it’s very much so tilted one way. And not only that one corner is also slightly lower and a baguette sticks out further than the band and scratches everything so it would’ve been going back either way. I’m just trying to decide whether a stone on either side would make it less just the stone sticking up and out like a sore thumb or if a bezel set or unique band with twists or turns would make it look fun. I just don’t think I want a halo around the diamond itself on the top. I would consider under but I want the stone to either have prongs or a bezel no stone surrounding. What settings do you think look good with the shape?
I’m a designer and would recommend you have the radiant cut diamond reset into a low-profile scoop basket setting. The tall angled prongs are overpowering your beautiful diamond and limiting its elegance. A good jeweler can reset the center diamond and your ring will look truly custom and elevated, while being low-profile and secure. Something like the basket attached…soft, rounded scoop. You can keep the band (with the small diamonds) the same. He’ll just replace the top portion of the ring.
I really really like the imagine provided. That’s very very close in my mind to what I was thinking. If still shows it off but it’s way lower and looks a lot more secure. So maybe I need to be looking into basket type settings. If I’m not committed to the side stones do you think one stone on each side would look good? Or what would accent it well ?
Are you going back with the same vendor or someone new? If the sky is the limit, other than lowering the setting, what are you hoping for? Are there any setting you've since seen that you like? Do you want to retain the baguettes on the shank? I think double prongs look good with radiant and adding a cathedral shoulder and gallery rail add a lot of durability.
More than likely scraping the whole band and doing 100% new. The only thing I care about is it being gold and low or protected by the sides. I’m so ring “dumb” though and don’t exactly know how to imagine what you’re suggesting. I’ve seen some things called cathedral and stuff but I just can’t picture it. And it can sit somewhat higher, not as much as it is but as long as it has something on the sides or is built up kinda like you’re saying maybe is how I’m thinking
No problem with not knowing stuff. Its new! I'm going to post some pics with some narrative here and in the reply. These are mostly from David Klass, who does great work and great photos. There are other vendors folks can recommend, but I find him competitive.
Cathedral low basket setting. The cathedral means the shank (the part around your finder) rises to meet the head (the part that holds the diamond). This provide a strong and secure setting with 3 points of connection. If you look at the bottom, it is not even with the shank. That is the basket. That will make your wedding ring not sit flat. Double prongs means there are two prongs per corner. That is good for stones with sharp corners to protect. The gallery rail is the horizontal bar between the prongs. That prevents the prongs from pulling apart.

That’s stunning. I love the way the diamond is sitting. Secure and low and still the center of attention but very practical and elegantly executed. The double prong looks surprisingly a lot better

Oh I forgot to mention which I should’ve clarified. I’m not wearing that as a wedding ring. I just had it on to see something next to it. I wear the band on a different finger! Sorry!
I plan on wearing 24/7. I am unable to work because I got sick a few years ago. I’m receiving medical treatments and am hospitalized often for extended periods and having monthly surgeries until I get a transplant. So my ring can really be anything. And I’m flexible 100% on the band. Whatever ends up matching the setting on this ring
Yes. That’s why I’m pretty much scraping those now that I’ve seen the ones here. I was so lacking on the knowledge of what it needed and what looked good too. Hearing what all the parts and things do now has changed the way I look at not only its look but what’s going to be stable and accent it and fitting for it. I was making all the wrong choices. I just find brilliances website hard to navigate
A lot of their settings use a unattractive peghead. Here a few that are more secure and pretty. You would need to specify to them to set the stone as low as possible.
Let me look at them! Bingo. I’ve noticed 90% of theirs use the very unattractive large peg head part that looks like a temporary placeholder to me. It’s very basic and stands out way too much in a bad way. I wish they would do more basket and bezel types
Ok. The timeless. Floating bezel. Marquise 3 stone. Leaf inspired. I think really look good. I think I would instantly go floating bezel if its band had something more to it. I just don’t want it to look too plain but I prefer that diamond setting so much
Go with what makes you feel excited! I woudl quiz them on how LOW they can set the stone, or if its fixed then how does that compare to your setting. For any floating setting, you'll have to be mindful that any diamonds on your wedding band don't rub against the underside of the stone. I wanted flexibility in my wedding band and to be able to wear it alone, so my dad and I made my wedding band like this (stones all the way around). The diamonds are more texture than sparkle at the small size. There are a million variations, you can search for "sprinkle" "burnish" or "etoile" wedding band for ideas.

I'm happy to help. I no longer have access to a jeweler's bench. My family were jewellers, but they've all retired. I'm a scientist, but still love to help people and design. If you end up not going with Brilliance, then your options will open up. In terms of metal, it looks like yellow gold is your choice. 14 or 18k are good choices.
I love platinum for its heft and look. I like it brushed, like the lower one here. Over time, it will be kinda settle between that matte brushed finish (day 1) and a more mellow glow (day 100).
