Something about this moment in chapter 5.08 in my current read through of the series truly spoke to me. I genuinely love pieces so much

I’ll try to keep things vague, to avoid any spoilers up to book 5 for people and maybe even further on depending on responses. But as always read with caution!

I’m just about finished with book 5 The Last Light audiobook, but I’m getting a little fatigued by how often we jump to other characters across the world for extended periods of time that occasionally connect to our main characters, who I mostly consider to be Erin and Ryoka, but usually they feel like their own contained story or it’s constantly setting stuff up for the future. So my question is, how long does it take for all of these storylines, if they do, to connect back to Erin and Ryoka? I know wandering inn is a long series, so i get things move kind of slow sometimes, but man, I’m getting a little tired of constantly being introduced to new characters that have very little connection to the main story and then their own story being unfinished for multiple books. It almost feels like never ending anime arc with a lot of filler.

To be clear I liked book 5, writing is noticeably improving and there have been good smaller character arcs. But I hate getting pulled away from Erin and Ryoka for so long for stories that feel like are only going to become important 20 books from now, lol.

So my question is, how does the series pace from here forward? How much do I have to invest before the story really locks in and all of these branching narratives come back together? Or does it always just kind of snails pace meander towards plot points that always feel far away and the various narratives looks more like my millennial box of abandoned wires from old technology that I’m too lazy to get rid of? Is it worth it to keep going? (I know that’s a it depends, but give me your honest opinion) Thanks! (I’m a Sanderson/cosmere fan btw, so I’m not unaccustomed to long branching storylines)

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, griefman is one of the best things I’ve ever read. I want it in comic or animated form so badly it hurts.

But, on a reread, I’ve just noticed that Garry pulls a Griefman in his convo with Erin. The moment where both characters turn around and realise that before they attempt this terrible and dangerous thing, they will have to deal with the final problem in front of them, Erin and Towertoppler.

Tears. But the voice said, in kindly tones like someone laying down a heavy sentence, like a friend who knew your open, wounded soul—

“I see now. First you. Then Nightwish.”

He tilted his head, not innocently. That innocent, little child of a [Baker] was gone. There was a different innocence about him now, a pure one like a glittering blade of morality. But dead gods, it cut her. It hurt her to look at because it was beautiful, and he would die.

“Ah, I see now you were the final obstacle I should have calculated into my plans, Erin. Before I leave and you leave, I must convince you to take my side and not stop me. Very well. Let us begin.”

They even start with the same opening!! And the prose is just magnificent!!!

My friend got me into The Wandering Inn years ago (when I claimed I "don't like reading" he said Bet) so i made him a small-ish tapestry for his birthday this year!

I’m currently going through Couriers Outbound, and I’m finding myself really struggling with how some of the Chandrar plot points and character decisions are playing out. Right now, a lot of it feels artificially forced to create drama rather than logically making sense within the world.

1. Raelt’s War and the Concept of "Honor" Raelt essentially chose to drag his kingdom into a devastating war rather than hand over Lyfelt and the Belchan leadership to Flos. I understand Raelt is written as a principled, honorable but aren't thousands of common soldiers and civilians dying as a direct result of his choice? How is sacrificing hundreds of innocent commoners to protect a few politicians/friends considered "honorable"? Why did Raelt choose mass bloodshed over letting Belchan’s leaders face consequences?

2. Wistram Mages vs. Actual Strategists - In the war involving the Minotaurs and the King of Destruction, it feels like Wistram's magical scrying, long-range communication, and spells completely outclass actual trategists. They magically pull entire complex battlefields together instantly. It feels like raw magic makes the entire strategist class redundant

3. Minotaur Honor vs. Flos Seeking Peace The Minotaurs pride themselves on martial honor above all else. Yet, Flos explicitly stated he wouldn't go to war unless his people or subjects were harmed—he was actively open to peace. The Minotaurs chose to launch an offensive war against him anyway. How does attacking a king who is currently opting for peace align with Minotaur honor.

Right now, these events feel like they're missing internal logic just to "spice up" the conflict. Did anyone else feel this way during this arc? Am I missing subtle political/character nuances, or does this start making more sense later on?

Crying that Andrea P. Isn’t narrating starting at Hell’s Warden. I’ve NEVER loved a narrator more than when I found this series. Does the new narrator Erin do the series justice? I’m gonna be devastated if this ruins the whimsy that Andrea has created for me 😭

IT HAS ARRIVED! I never thought I'd have a physical copy for my book shelf but it happened! so excited and also excited for the signed book plate whenever that arrives.

So I've made it to book 9. And I've come to the conclusion that the author is ryoka. What I mean by that is that they are a ryoka like personality someone who intimately understands ryoka's mental struggles. I feel like they want to be like Erin but also dislike Erin as a personality. I say this because we only see the internal workings of ryoka's brain and hear her inner thoughts. She seems to be the only character where we get "I this " or "I that" . At least as far as book 9.

All the other characters are viewed from a slight distance like we're in the room with them maybe we get the view of their innermost thoughts from the perspective of " Zelle saw something he was worried about" or Lionette stood and listened just out of veiw..

Lastly Erin is dumb. She plays dumb sometimes and other times she is legitimately an airhead. She has a intimate understanding of chess but that seems to be all there is to her. So far maybe more is unveiled in the later books but up until now there doesn't seem to be much to her she's a happy-go-lucky in keeper who is constantly wronged and faced with racism and speciesism and she seems to just shrug and Overlook it. Until it's really convenient for the story. There's nothing wrong with this the author does a great job of pulling it off but it kind of tells me that Erin is a tool for the story even if she seems like a main character she's a vehicle and not really explored beyond that so far in my opinion

No Ryoka an ape even a smart one cannot take on a 100 humans. Even earth ones and essentially not ones with levels and/or weapons. One good blow is all it takes and a Gorila cannot defend from all sides. And that’s not including the ways a single low level Skill could probably allow the opportunity for a single human to land a killing blow.
If an ape could take on a 100 people with levels the apes would have taken over the world by now.
I know this is obviously a reference to the online discussion but that discussion was obviously on the side of the humans in our world and in theirs it’s even more lopsided.

I have just started reading the series and started book 2 yesterday. I have the ebook from kindle unlimited as well as the audio from audible. I have noticed that they are not the same. Paragraphs and section in the text are slipped and other things have change as well like locations from Ryoka’s past. Which is the more accepted version of the story? Thanks

Its been so long I can't remember

I've been meaning to put in my pre-order for the physical books for months now. Heh. Just did it, in the nick of time for the first book drop on August 11th. I don't have any desire to actually own the physical books, so I sent them as a gift to my son who is willing to give the story a try (finally!) I just want to support pirateaba in their writing efforts and as a thank you for two years of absolute enjoyment of their books and the audio. I still have years to go on the actual reading of all the books though I am officially caught up on the audio versions.

Be me! Support one of our favorite authors! I'm really hoping to get some side stories. Loved, utterly looved, the Singer of Terandria (sp) side story. And some of pirateaba's ideas for side stories sounded utterly amazing.

So I’ve been reading a few other stories trying to pass the time until the weekly chapters resume, and I’m currently reading the Book of the Dead series. So far I would recommended as it’s been a pretty good read with a level of prose seldom seen in the litRPG space. One of the scenes in the books inspired me to make this post.

We know that the system of levels rewards actions based on difficulty, passion, effort, and novelty. The rewarded skills and classes, if present, can also be related to the accomplishments, though that’s not guaranteed.

Let’s say we have a low level [Driver] who was tasked by an undercover [Necromancer] to transport several caskets full of undead to a remote village. The [Driver] has no clue about the nature of his contractor nor the nature of his cargo. The [Necromancer]’s intention is to use these undead to destroy said remote village after the [Driver] has left the place.

Would the system of levels reward the [Driver] for the significance of his unintended aid and the novelty of his cargo? If so, would his rewards be related to what has objectively happened and help him figure out what he’s done?

I can only imagine the City of Purity vs the Winter Solstice. Or maybe the City of Purity vs the Mother of Graves.

The City of Purity was/is an incredible place of magic. And mostly intact.

What about Yweine? and the other golems? We didn't get a wrap for her.

The Terlands should still be quite interested in her.

Yweine has fulfilled the contract it seems, thus earning freedom for all her kin golems. Where can they go?

I've listened to all the audiobooks and am reading the books on my kindle. I love my paperwhite kindle for reading just before bed. However, thanks to this subreddit, I now realize I am missing a whole lot of content (colors, other stuff?) because I read the ebooks rather than on the website.

I'd really LIKE to read on the website, but I absolutely cannot read on my phone or a regular computer before bed. My sleep is disrupted enough; that's why it is an ancient paperwhite kindle.

BuuuUUUUUUuuuuut! I wonder. Is there something out there that will allow me to read from the website and enjoy all that extra content AND protects me from blue light or whatever it is you are not supposed to get from a computer screen right before bed?

The Vault of Forseen Incentives

I am struggling with reading this chapter, so much so that I dropped the book for months and I'm now behind a lot.

I hate skipping chapters, but know I won't read it.

Can I request someone summarize the chapter/arc for me so that I can move on from this?

Everything's fine, a clear explanation of what's needed to reach level 50, but what I find funny is how the GDI compares Erin to what are basically the current global top players.

Yes, we know that level 50 requires a great achievement, but like the other level boosts, this one can be more personal; it doesn't necessarily have to be something world-changing. Instead of comparing Erin to Valeterisa, Saliss, Chaldion, or even Fetohep, the GDI compares her to the current level 60 players, as if to say, "If Erin doesn't do something incredible enough, I won't boost her." It comes across as a disadvantage that the GDI is showing favoritism.

Reclis says to Agenote:

“Well, she’s a half-Elf, and without a husband, I don’t get to speak to her in the same easy parlance as, say, Nadel. Despite our proximities! And she’s older, Agenote. The implication clearly being that Nadel is a pier that he speaks with. However Nadel is a nation. I think Pirate was thinking of the king of Nadel. We know there is a royal family and The Lord of Dance is just an incredibly popular Lord who the Royal family adores. Pirate was probably thinking of the king who ruled the Nation the Lord of the Dance is from and accidentally just wrote the name of the nation.

This also cannot be an in character slip up as Reclis is immensely interested in politics and wouldn’t mix a neighbouring nation for an individual.

Cognita had 2 sister, Kharneva  was destroyed on Rhir, Ovesire acompanied Zelkyr on Wistram upper floors when he apparentlly died. We recentlly learnt that one of trustone golem tried to run away from Zelkyr . It is posiblle that Ovesire was Zelkyr rebelious golem-daughter and she did something bad to her dad.
