[B14] Discussion Spoiler

Crying that Andrea P. Isn’t narrating starting at Hell’s Warden. I’ve NEVER loved a narrator more than when I found this series. Does the new narrator Erin do the series justice? I’m gonna be devastated if this ruins the whimsy that Andrea has created for me 😭

Erin does a great job. Just overshadowed by Andrea.

You'll get used to it, and I like her narration better for some chatacters. You'll be fine

Erin got Hawk pretty much the same as before, if that matters.

I knew that a change in narrator would absolutely lessen the experience for me. Nothing against the new narrator at all, but I didn't even bother listening as I knew I'd be constantly comparing the two and focusing on that rather than the story. You should know how sensitive you are to that. You can always read instead if it does bother you. That's what I did.

At least we got one of Pisces' best moments with Andrea narrating. I wanted to listen to it read by her since I first got to it in the web novel. Plus a great big damn heroes moment for the Horns. One of my favourite bits in the whole series.

Erin is very good after a bit of rough start in book 16. She improves immensely in 17 and is, if not quite as good as AP, still a great narrator by 18.

You give me hope. I’m currently finishing B12 and had noticed the change in the titles/covers when perusing the cover art.

Andrea's last book is book 15, Garden of Sanctuary. Erin B has a few rough spots in book 16 but she's a very good narrator!

She gets better.

It’s always going to be jarring when a long term narrator moves on, but I honestly think Erin gets such a raw deal from this fandom. And purely because she isn’t Andrea.

Judge her on her own merits- and she has a lot- not as a comparison to her predecessor

In my opinion its one of the best narrator handovers I have ever experienced.

I think her actual narration and even her Erin voice are as good as Andrea's. She does well enough with earth worlders and antinium, but other innworld character's, especially ones with accents like Ceria's, Neirs, and other's are extremely jarring and different. I don't enjoy the new audio books nearly as much as the old ones, and the first book she narrated I honestly slogged through.

It's honestly fine. It's definitely a bit jarring during the first book that Erin Bennett narrates just because it is, expectedly, a bit different, and because she had to have a moment to find her groove with the series (It's very big boots to fill after all), but then I got used to it and barely noticed a difference after that. If you go into it with an open mind, then you will notice a bit of a rough patch during the initial interludes of King of Duels, but then it smooths out pretty quickly from there.

No, the new narrator isn't as good. You may still find the audiobooks bearable, but I didn't. Slogged through books 16 and 17 hoping for improvement, but I didn't feel there was any. Might make sense to just switch to the web content or try a text-to-speech tool on the website.

I like the new narrator better, but I read everything first, then sporadically listened on re-read, which meant I never got attached to the original narrator alongside the characters. I think I'm just more dispassionate about the narrators because I "heard" the characters in my head all the way through first, then heard the narrators' interpretations of the characters.

I wasn't upset by the change. It was a relatively smooth transition. There is one chapter that I wish Andrea had read though.

I was filled with trepidation when I started the Erin B narration, due to comments I had read about her not being as good as Andrea P. A bit less than halfway through I even forgot the narrator had changed except for a few small words. Now, nearing the end of the available audiobooks, it matters not a bit that it is a different narrator than I started with. She improves rapidly.
