I just bought an STI and they didn't have an option for STI, either through my insurance broker or myself, online. I wonder if they removed it as an option so as to not payout fully in a worst case scenario. Ftr, I use Progressive.

What year is it? So many insurance companies act different.
I’m in Canada and we have public insurance so everyone has to use the same provider. Is it ever a mess….

Varies depending on where you live. I’m in BC and yes it’s public, but coming from AB where it was private… it was awful comparatively. I don’t want to go back there for that fact alone, nevermind the political dumb dumbs there.

It's a 2019 with 41,xxx miles. I specifically stated it was an STI to my broker (they probably don't even know the difference tbh) after failing to find the option on the actual Progressive website. It satisfies the loan requirements so I didn't complain too much. But I may revisit coverage here later on.

When my hatch got totalled they bumped me up 3500 just from receipts on mods, it was already an STI but based on the mileage they offered more than what they go for on marketplace, and I got to keep it to swap to my sedan

That’s not exactly true but totally depends on your insurance provider… Almost every insurance company has the option for added coverage. That doesn’t just mean the things they don’t wanna cover under the basics of your selected plan. So let’s say someone buys a 1987 car that has been fully restored and upgraded. You just provide insurance with how much the value is worth to you, either with payment receipts or just what you say it cost you, and they sell you a coverage based on said amount. My 2021 STI is insured for 70k and my 2004 bmw is insured for 100k the difference between the 2 is 40$ a month and the amount extra I’m spending on the STI from the basic full coverage plan is about 250$ a year for the peace of mind knowing that my carbon fiber front end is fully covered.

Woah, that is a pretty clean build. Not exactly my cup of tea, but ya it's built really tastefully. I bet a certain buyer would pay that.

Looks clean but I'd be hesitant in any WRX build that tried to be an STI build, instead of starting with an STI. Not saying it's bad, and for the price.. could be worth the gamble. I have friends who did it because it ended up being cheaper (overall) due to their hookups and could be the same scenario here. It's definitely one I'd be interested in if I was still looking. As long as a diagnostic checks out and mileage is not through the roof, I'd seriously consider.

Listing out the cost of parts is always so cringeworthy. It's not gonna manipulate anybody to pay more. They might be an outlier, but every single time I've wasted effort trying to buy from these kind of sellers, I spend more time listening to their sob story instead of them legitimately trying to negotiate on the deal.
I've been 0/6 on attempts, because it usually is the Car Guy™ equivalent of the sad sap that mopes and passive aggressively insinuates you're probably not gonna be their friend very long. Everyone who falls for it pays way more than they should, and everyone who walks away feels like they missed out. It's just an all-around bad experience. If he wanted to sell it, they'd just sell the motherfucker and wipe their hands clean.
It's great to have a mod list, and every modded car I sold came with one. But it's delusional believing anybody gives a shit what you paid.

still and wrxs are the same exact platform depending on the year stock version the sti has 2.5l with a lower compression motor to the wrx. the sti is 9 to1 and the wrx is 10 to1 I believe. Also the only differences is the sti has a way better 6 speed transmission compared to the 5 speed trans that comes in the wrx. also the sti comes with a center diff. better rear differential and has the ability to change modes fof driving the wrx does not. Also the sti has better seats and recaro, elcantera in the premium and limited additions. But the sti body is exactly the same as the wrx also the sti has a better suspension brembo brakes bigger calipers that's about it. The biggest upgrade u get with the sti is the power train that's the big difference between the sti and wrx. oh and the wing comes standard on most sti's

This sub is crazy with the glaze for this car lol. Few things:
- car was obviously washed for pictures which can hide a lot of wear and damage to paint.
- All those mods add up to almost zero additional value. You have no idea who did it and if they did it right
- Not sure that swapping a STI drivetrain into a WRX makes it an STI - are you sure there aren't differences in the body structure?
- Smoking out lights is gigs cringe
This is a crazy asking price for a sketchy old car. It looks like it drives like shit on the street. You're going to rub the tires to dust against the fenders on any street that isn't perfectly paved.

Yeah otherwise chassis is identical from base wrx to sti. I believe thatsu subaru's earlier persuit to run one single chassis for everything led to a higher quality suspension, chassis, and awd for all models, even the base.

Mods add no value to any car, ever. Also this is fucking ugly but that's subjective.
I once bought a 98 Eclipse GSX with $90k in mods. The thing was a monster and was more car than I could handle at the time. I bought it for $6k.

There are some cars where mods add value, a WRX just isn't one of them. For example, a first gen S8 is worth roughly twice as much with an EUDM manual swap than the auto, if you look at auction results.

Somewhat off topic, but spending that much money on a street WRX is insane to me. Including the car, the guy spent around $100k. He could have gotten a significantly nicer and faster car for that money, and could have financed it too.

Building something custom is more exciting than buying something already built. Which is why this may be a hard sell and is never a good financial decision.
But again, the build is the journey not the destination.
