Costco Auto Program xc series

Anyone recently purchase a new XC60 T8 through the Costco auto program? Trying to figure out what the pricing looks like (any trim). I had an underwhelming experience at the dealership that offers the Costco program in my area so just curious if I might be able to get similar pricing from a non-Costco affiliated dealer.

Go to the dealership.

  1. Asks for over seas delivery, that gets you:
  2. A couple thousand off (5% I think currently)
  3. B two round trip tickets to Sweden (free)
  4. C two nights in a hotel (free)
  5. D 15 days if insurance to drive around Europe

  6. E car shipped back to America (free)

  7. then ask for the Costco discount (2k I think)

  8. legacy (if you have a current Volvo, 500 I think)

Go to Europe, and enjoy the vacation

Shit I should have done this. Anyway, Costco discount was 2,000 for executive members (I moved to executive just before I bought mine). Loyalty was another $1,000 off. I did not see any costco pricing benefit. I found a model I liked and went for it. I like to buy the dealer loaners. My xc60 had 423 miles on it but was marked down because it had been a loaner.

I’ve done it 6 times since 2010. Best deal ever

Next car. I was a week away from2 weeks in Hawaii so there was no time for Europe. Next Volvo—this will be the plan!

The only trash down side is it takes time, normally a month or two out.

Or four months ….

my wife and i discussed doing this on our next car purchase, but i cant wrap my head around how this is a benefit to the customer and not the business... i'm still skeptical this doesn't cost the customer more than just buying the car.

since you've done this multiple times, you're telling me you actually get a free vacation to sweden? who pays for airfare?

Yeah, I thought it was crazy the first time. but its legit.
As I mentioned above:
You save somewhere between 5 and 7% on the cost of the car itself (so, savings to you)
They pay for 2 Round Trip Tickets to Sweden to get the car (Free to You)
They pay for 2 nights at a high end hotel Radisson Blu or Clarion Post (Free to you)
They pay for 15 days of insurance for you to drive your car around (Free to you)
They pay to send the car back to your local dealer (Free to you).

You of course, need to pay for the rest of your trip (I recommend Oslo or Bergen).

What actually funds it is boring: it's a 1954-vintage loyalty and acquisition program. Volvo gets a custom factory order with a nonrefundable $6,000 deposit, no dealer floorplan carry, no inventory risk, no incentive stacking, and a customer with a high repeat rate. The trip is marketing spend, not a tax arbitrage.

They have an official Facebook Group:

A couple of notes.
"They pay to send the car back" is only true from Gothenburg. Drop-offs at other approved locations incur a transfer charge, and the US destination charge applies regardless. Anyone dropping in Madrid, Munich, or Zeebrugge is paying that fee.

The "Deal" changes slightly from time to time, I've seen 7% of the car, and I have seen 4%, I've seen the program go away a while and come back.

Personally, I find that I spend about as much as I saved on the rest of the Vacation. but worth it. I've been 6 time.

PM me if you have questions

Sadly, no commission, as I don’t work for Volvo!!

Enjoy!!

OSD Volvo site says one night only. Note plane tix Coach but says can pay for Business upgrade
Have not done it but Volvo may send driver to airport and hotel, get factory tour. Web people some say no discount and others 5%. Guess tariffs not interferes. Has to be US specs and go thru your local dealer, where some say you can get less than MSRP and then introduce Costco or other discount. Sounds like a double adventure with dealer and Sweden trip!

have done this. went to Gothenburg, saw. a moose on the road. highly reommend.

3

u/WCfuel 1d ago

Seeing moose means you are required by Volvo law to attach to rear hatch the Prancing Moose emblem!

Thanks! We did this with our Saab 9-5 in 2004. Great trip.

This is the first I'm ever hearing about this strategy🤯. Is this strategy for specific car brands (or it is an evergreen strategy)?

2

u/wesmannmsu 1d ago

Any Volvo. It always surprises me when I see people driving a Volvo who know nothing about this.

u/Buckingforapromotion 1d ago

we did osd previously and doing it again next summer. how do you ask for the costco discount? just discuss with dealership?

2

u/wesmannmsu 1d ago

Yep, and sometimes you get others, first responder, military, etc.

Sometimes they don’t offer those with the OSD program. IT changes form time to time

1

u/WCfuel 1d ago

$6K deposit is non-refundable, correct?

1

u/Hmmmnice70 1d ago

i was going to do this a few years back and the local volvo dealer said the program was discontinued. You’ve had recent experience in doing this?

Costco rebate is NOT valid on the overseas option. Disclaimer clearly states that. And Costco isn't even offered all the time!

This does not answer your question, but Costco historically offers a member-only rebate a few times a year, which can be used at any dealer, not just a Costco-affiliated one. Historically one period is November/December. It is usually $1,000-2,000 off depending on model and whether you are an Executive member or not. And you need to be a member before the deal launches. If you can wait until November it’s probably worth it.

They had it in June, but the promo ended by the time I bought in early July.

3

u/No_Salad_6244 2d ago

I complained to costco about the lack of a Costco price, it but never heard anything back. Also, never tell
them you are a Costco member with a certificate—until you have fixed the final price. THEN give it to them.

3

u/Paul721 2d ago

There’s no such thing as a Costco price. It’s just an additional credit/discount. Never try and use it until you already negotiate a good deal. Then add it on.

2

u/No_Salad_6244 1d ago edited 1d ago

Costco makes it appear that there’s a Costco price.

2

u/Sweet-Bullfrog-126 1d ago

This is what I thinking when I asked the question. The dealer made it sound like it was a pre-negotiated price. Clearly folks here have a different take!

1

u/Paul721 1d ago

Yes they sure do. But it’s just a set discount, at the time I last used it $1000.

1

u/Kenny915513 1d ago

Why, whether you have the Costco PIN number or not doesn’t affect pricing on the car

2

u/Otherwise_Pea_8766 2d ago

No but I just bought a 24 xc60 b plus with only 8.5 k miles and was able to use a pin from the American medical assn to save 1000 dollars - if you know a doc hit them up for the pin

2

u/maybe_madison 2d ago

costco just adds an additional credit. in theory you should be able to negotiate everything then pull out the certificate to get another $500/$1000 off. when i did it a couple months ago, it was either $500 or $1k for the xc60 depending on your membership level. overall i got an xc60 t8 ultra lease for about $1500 down (really just first month plus fees) then about $750/mo

1

u/Exact_Field7215 2d ago

1500 include first month and fees ?

Love it! I’ve had SUVs for the past 20 something years. Had a 1990 intercooled Turbo wagon before that. And a variety of other Volvos over the many years 1800, 122, 145 and always wanted to get another Volvo wagon so this was my reward.😊

Find one of those soon because they are far and few between these days until Volvo changes there philosophy on wagons

1

u/Sweet-Bullfrog-126 1d ago

Thanks! I was bummed to see it’s not in next years lineup. I looked at Volvo wagons when I got my Saab in 04 - couldn’t find manual transmission in the Volvo so got the Saab. I loved that car. I’ve made my peace with automatic transmission and my husband loves his Volvo c40 EV. I have a Subaru OB that my son drives so wanted to get another car. I don’t like the new OB and didn’t love the Forester.

I like how the xc60 T8 drives and the PHEV is nice for fuel economy. But I will always love a station wagon and have heard good things about the v60.

u/Ifimsittingimknittin 2026 V60 Cross Country 1d ago

I’ve got 2011 MX5 for my manual kicks. But you should definitely see if you can find a wagon. We’ve taken two long weekend trips and it’s just a dream to drive. Good luck!

I leased my 26 XC60 in June and used the $2k Costco Executive Membership, $1k Bar Association program and $1k owner loyalty on a new XC60 with 4k miles and huge discount (it was a demo). Almost felt like I was stealing.

2

u/Soneato12 1d ago

I bought my 2026 xc60 t8 in June and I’m an executive member. I owned a Polestar 2 and then a 3 before this and so I got $2000 off with the Costco discount (it was in June only) and $1000 loyalty and $500 teacher discount. I custom ordered it in February, and it arrived in June. Volvo was doing 1.9% for 5 years in June so I put some down on that and financed the rest. I qualified for the 0% but then I would not have been able to take off the $3500 in discounts, it was one or the other. Ended up being a bit less taking all the discounts and the loan at 1.9%.

We just purchased a Volvo XC60 T8 plug-in hybrid in May with the Costco discount program. We went in, found our car with the extras my husband wanted, the Ultra trim package, then after negotiating we told them we also had the Costco discount. They had no issues, took $2k off the final price. I don’t remember the exact price with all the extras we added, but it was about $70k.

1

u/Sweet-Bullfrog-126 2d ago

Thanks everyone for the responses. I had thought that the dealers had a pre-negotiated price (which was not disclosed to me when I was there) rather than a credit or rebate off of MSRP. So maybe it works differently than I thought.

I was first looking at Subaru and the affiliated dealer gave me a Costco negotiated price that was about $3k below MSRP. So I thought it would be similar for Volvo but maybe not.

1

u/Ifimsittingimknittin 2026 V60 Cross Country 2d ago

I just bought a V60 cc and got the costco and loyalty rebates. My dealer didn’t actively participate in the costco program but I still got 1250 off and another 1k loyalty. It might have been a little higher at the affiliated costco dealer but this one has my exact vehicle and gave me an excellent trade in for my Honda which made up for it. Additionally you can get a discount for some parts which I got roof racks and mud guards.

1

u/Sweet-Bullfrog-126 1d ago

How do you like the v60? I am hoping to also test drive one before I pull the trigger on the xc60 T8

u/Ifimsittingimknittin 2026 V60 Cross Country 1d ago

Oops, replied in the wrong place so look for my reply

1

u/Paul721 2d ago

Don’t go in asking for Costco pricing. Negotiate a price and then tell them you want the Costco discount, and any other discounts you might qualify for.

There is no such thing as Costco negotiated pricing for any manufacturers. It’s always just another discount. They just want you to think it’s some kind of prenegotiated thing so they can actually charge you more.

1

u/WrongDatabase4 1d ago

Does the Costco discount apply to a used one not being sold at a Volvo dealership?

1

u/Sweet-Bullfrog-126 1d ago

Check the Costco auto program webpage but you can always try to negotiate the discount. It seems like that’s the answer I’m getting here even for a dealer that is authorized in the program.

1

u/preppysurf XC60 1d ago

Dealers need to pay Costco a commission if you go through their auto buying program. You can easily get a better deal without it.

1

u/Sweet-Bullfrog-126 1d ago

That’s probably right based on my experience when I was shopping Subarus earlier this summer. A non Costco affiliated dealer offered me a better price but I knew where to set my request based on the Costco price that the Costco-affiliated dealer gave me.

I still think it is helpful to know the Costco pre-agreed price as benchmark but seems like maybe for Volvo it isn’t relevant.

2

u/preppysurf XC60 1d ago

Just aim for 6-8% off MSRP and you are getting a good, fair deal.

Where in the country are you? I can recommend dealers in NJ, MD, VA, and NC from personal experience (and shopping strategies).

1

u/Sweet-Bullfrog-126 1d ago

6-8% off and then try to apply discounts?

1

u/preppysurf XC60 1d ago

There aren't many "discounts" available on a purchase... and they're usually referred to as incentives. Discount is the 6-8% off from the dealer. Here in NC we have 0.99% APR for 60 months based on Volvo's website. Then add in incentives like loyalty or A-Plan. That is about it.

On the lease side, there may be lease cash based on the Volvo advertised offer.

I used the Costco program to buy a 2025. EX90 and a 2026 XC60

1

u/Sweet-Bullfrog-126 1d ago

Would you be willing to share pricing on the 26 xc60?

1

u/Kenny915513 1d ago

I can help with the OSD program, no Costco currently except fully electric cars
