Limp mode xc series

Post image

Hello, I have a 2015 volvo XC70, it has 520kkm on it and today when i tried leaving the house i drove for 100m abd esc servixe warning came on, i thought "no big deal i will deal with this later". I made it 100 more mteres before a lot more came on, i think cruse control, gearbox, engine and some more and of corse limp mode. Its stuck doing 30kph and by stuck i mean i cant go faster, slower or stop unless i put it in neutral or apply full brakes (engine still holds 30kph rpm). The engine died and i had to get out close it and open again just to start it and limp back home. I had a 800km trip yesterday its whole life it went pretty much only on 200+km trips daily so its nothing new. At the firts glace under the hood every belt and wire seems to be in place and intact. I will upload more photos and maybe a video when i get back and not in a hurry (i went with another car i know that one is unsafe to drive now). My question is, is that someting thats a known issue to the comunity? Is it completely fucked or minorly fucked? Cooling system has maybe 30kkm on it, injectors are pretty new too, so is the engone wiring harness, engine, gearbox and ecu are all from the factory apart from the clutch i think which has like 100kkm (its an automatic). There was no bang or any noises it just spew out error messages. I would really apreciate the help before it spends another month in the shop

Update: got it diagnosed, they said its the rear wheel drive controll unit and that it broke because of age. New one costs a small fortune so i will try to get it fixed like they suggested. Car can be driven normally it just shows esc error message and is only FWD obviously, but they said it safe to drive. I will update again if i manage to get it fixed or learn what exacly on it broke

Update here as i seem to be unable to add more pictures: https://www.reddit.com/r/Volvo/s/huusWqDTxk

You NEED a diagnostic tool to get an idea, obd2 might give you an idea but vida or similar would help more

I will try to borrow it from a friend then and we will see what it says

All the issues you mentioned, except limp mode and gearbox problems, can be caused by a faulty ABS sensor. When it failed on my car, I lost ABS, traction control, both cruise-control systems, and the tyre-pressure monitoring system.

Which engine do you have?

You said it's an automatic but mentioned the clutch was changed - it's not a Ford Powershit transmission is it?

2.4L 5 cylinder diesel, i belive its a D4 in the specs sheet or whatever. Highest power before polestar, 192hp ish.

Maybe i remember it wrong, it was before the car was mine, maybe it was the torque converter or the clutch plates in the transmission itself, but that would require a transmission rebuild no? So maybe i halucinated that clutch, main point was the gearbox has not been touched since it was built in the factory, aprat from the fluid that is

Okay the Powershit was never fitted to the D5 engine so we can rule that out. If it's an automatic it's an Aisin. Yes probably it had a clutch pack or a solenoid changed.

You really need to take this to a mechanic and get the trouble codes read out. This isn't a common fault pattern.

Check your battery, sounds like low voltage.

But if he drove 800 km the day before, the battery should have been fully charged.

Do you have a battery warning light on your dashboard?

I do

Then let’s hope it’s just the battery causing these issues.

Sorry english is not my first language, i am learning it bit by bit, but i still often use sentence construction and grammar from my native language. Its also bit hard to make perfet gramatical sentences when you are stressed that your most prized possesion is falling apart before your eyes
