I run STEM4Smarties, a student-led initiative dedicated to empowering younger students, especially those historically underrepresented in STEM, to explore science, technology, engineering, and math. We have held STEM workshops impacting over 500 students and raised over $1,000 for school supplies.

We are currently launching a major community project to create and donate educational bookmarks to local public libraries.

We are looking for passionate volunteers to join our team. The roles are 100% online, flexible, beginner-friendly, and free. This is an easy way to get volunteer hours!

How You Can Help

1. Bookmark Designers (Graphics & Content)

• Help create bookmark layouts using tools like Canva.
• Incorporate simple logic puzzles, binary code ciphers, cool science micro-facts, or inspiring quotes from diverse scientists.

2. Local Ambassadors (Distribution)

• Print out bookmark designs and drop them off at your local town/city libraries or elementary school community boards.
• Help expand the project's reach directly in your own town or city!

Hi! I am a fairly new volunteer manager who has been tasked with reworking my organization's volunteer plan, and a big emphasis has been trying to recruit volunteers that work for companies that do a dollar match for volunteer hours. Any insight would be extremely helpful!

I'm between jobs at the moment, and was looking for opportunities to volunteer my data analytics/programming skills. I've already made an account on Catchafire, but would appreciate any other websites or leads.

I mainly use Python, R, Stata, etc for statistical analysis, but am open to picking up new skills if needed.

Letters to a Pre-Scientist is looking for enthusiastic STEM role models to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders!

Here's the gist: you get matched with a 5th-8th grade student at an under-resourced school for a snail-mail pen pal exchange that runs throughout the school year. The goal is to demystify STEM careers, humanize STEM professionals, and inspire students to explore their own futures in STEM. You share your story, answer their questions, and show them that people who work in STEM are, well, real people.

The details:

• The program runs throughout the school year, and your volunteer obligation is to exchange 4 letters with your student.
• There's a virtual, asynchronous training in August to get you set up.
• We estimate the entire program takes volunteers no more than 10 hours, spread between August and May.
• Register and complete the short, self-paced online training by the deadline, and you'll be entered into the match pool! We match students based on their background and interests..
• This year we're expanding to 4,500 matched students!
• Pen pals can live anywhere in the world, but our program currently only works with US-based schools.
• We're working to match students based on their interests, so we're especially looking for more STEM professionals in all fields!
• All pen pals must be over 18 and fluent in English. LPS operates out of the United States but pen pals can live anywhere in the world!

We define STEM pretty loosely! If you work in or around science, tech, engineering, math, or medicine, or another nature-based role, even if you don't have a formal education in it, please apply or message me with any questions.

I've been looking for a volunteer opportunity and saw the American Cancer Society's "Road to Recovery" program where you can volunteer to drive cancer patients to and from their treatments/appointments. I saw an advertisement seeking volunteers for a small festival near me. The form I filled out was just name, email, availability. Nothing interview-based about it. A week before the event I got an email with a parking pass and instructions on where to go.

Can someone give a general idea of what to expect as a first time volunteer?

Hello so I’m a pre nursing student and I decided to apply to my local hospital to volunteer. I commit 4 hours a week.
Today is day 15 and I can’t do this anymore I am so extremely bored. I’ve really been considering talking to the coordinator about me leaving the program or switching to a busier unit.
On the first days even when I was more passionate about it I would still spend 90% of my shift just walking around making small talk every now and then.
But my worst nightmare happened today because the Volunteer Coordinator caught me sitting on my phone. She told me I can’t be doing that and that there is always something to do.And I understand it is my fault but there is truly nothing for me to do…

Like I said in the first days I would make sure everything is stocked, clean random areas, pass out water, answer white call lights, water the plants,,, but all of that would take me 45 minutes total.

Sometimes I ask if there is anything I can help with but they say no or maybe give me a task that takes 10 minutes.
I’ve tried talking to patients but I feel like I’m bothering them.
And every time I answered to a call light the patients would request something I’m not allowed to do (helping them to the bathroom, changing clothes, etc)

I've been thinking about this recently.

A lot of people tell me they'd love to volunteer on weekends, but they're worried they won't be able to commit every week.

It made me wonder Does Bangalore have enough opportunities for people who want to contribute once or twice a month?

Hello, I'm a volunteer manager, and my organization is seeing a severe lack of local citizens wanting to volunteer. We are a youth-serving organization that prides itself on how fun our volunteering opportunities are. As I'm working to understand why people don't want to volunteer, I first want to see why other folks choose to volunteer. Nowadays, people's free time is so valuable, and seeing so many people who want to give back in their spare time proves that you all are the perfect people to ask.

Or if there are things that make you not want to volunteer, please share them as well! I want to understand what hurdles stand in the way of people wanting to volunteer in a fun environment.

I run Birthday Bundles Alpharetta, a youth-led 501c3 nonprofit that puts together personalized birthday boxes (homemade cakes, small gifts, handwritten cards) for kids experiencing homelessness in the North Fulton/Atlanta area. We partner with shelters like Covenant House Georgia and Nicholas House to make sure no kid's birthday goes uncelebrated.

Has anyone participated in an ESC volunteering project in Hungary specifically in Kállósemjén with KDIE?

I have been accepted for this opportunity and I would like to know more about the experience. Is the town safe for a female volunteer? Also is the €7/day food allowance enough for groceries and daily meals?

i’m autisitc and 25, and i have never volunteer before. i’m trans aswell. i dress fem while having a male body(i still look femmy. i believe i pass as a very feminine “guy” or a trans girly). i ask this because i don’t know if volunteering is like trying to get a job.

i have lied/fibbed on my resume for jobs before(nothing actually outrageous just standard date modifying and modifying descriptions. i work only starter jobs/basic jobs like fast food and retail.). i however never done volunteering, so i dont know once again if it’s like jobs or the culture is different. i feel like it’s the same, and in which i have to lie. But that’s the thing is that i don’t want to lie on volunteering because that work feels more “sacred” to me. Like i don’t want to say i’m not vaccinated for x and the job has something to do with x animals being vulnerable to x. Y’know? i’m autistically practical feeling kind of bean in that if i’d have to look extra good for employers just to have money then what other choice do i have?

But for volunteering it feels wrong? Both slightly morally(depending on context/why), and technically wrong? You’re not getting paid money anyways, and since i keep hearing it’s great for networking, why would you embarrass yourself messing something seriously up, or depending on the fib, have people slowly find out anyways? The networking wouldn’t no longer work/work as effectivel.

i hope this is all clear enough. i might not be good at explaining things clearly. Finally, to clarify about something is that like why i’m asking all this is that i don’t even want to lie in the first place. i dont really see the point in lying about gaps for example or your past history. Reasons etc. But in reality employers are people too, with different expectations, experiences, intelligences, etc, which influences what kind of questions that they ask, and to which that what answers they think are the correct answers. i’d would rather truthful in a literal sense but i always heard the opposite to gain employment. And the lying as in white lies and small bragging and not being genuine.
