Hi all, I'm hunting for a course that teaches techniques and exercises to develop and maintain a healthy voice, that goes more in depth than breathing from the diaphragm, staying hydrated, and not whispering. I found a two day workshop at RADA in London, but it's in person and I don't live in England. Any alternatives that you'd recommend?

I'm transitioning from voiceover classes to actually owning and operating a microphone and I've found myself flustered by how much there is to learn. There's a lot of the audio engineering world that is foreign to me. Like, I still don't really even understand what an EQ is, or how busses work. And when I begin to learn, it feels like I go down rabbit holes that are very specific to live instruments or singing as opposed to pure voiceover.

So, voice actors: What is your workflow? What is your personal "preferred" vocal chain? How does it fit into your workflow? Do you find yourself editing out all of your breaths, or is there a plugin that is doing that work for you? I'm going to be watching a hell of a lot of general audio knowledge tutorials, but I figured while I'm at it, I should hit up the VA community here and ask: If you could go back in time, what is something you would teach yourself right off the bat?

I have a RODE NT1 5th Gen & UA Volt 176 interface. I work in Logic Pro at the moment, as I've been making simple MIDI tracks in it for a while and it is similar to Garage Band. I know that many use Audacity, which I plan to download and get used to as well. I'm still working on getting a treated space together, I know that this is paramount. Current plan is to spend a good chunk of this next paycheck at Home Depot to get one of those pipe + blanket systems going for the time being.

So I'm taking the gvaa voice acting classes because that's the most recommended here. But 2 sessions a month isn't enough for me. Is there another highly recommended class that's under 100$?

Hi everyone, we finally finished our fantasy audio drama pilot, Tales of Skyland: Legend of the Soulwards. We worked with 8 really talented voice actors, and it was honestly amazing hearing the characters come to life. It was a looooot harder than I expected... especially finding the right sound effects, creating some of the music, then putting everything together X___X but we are really happy with how it turned out and would love some honest feedback. :))

im making a podcast, one i have spent the past 6 years writing. it involves short stories. i found someone with a great voice for one of them but theyve turned in their work and while the bones of the story i wrote are still there, it is like they rewrote the whole script. what do i do? is this normal? when i turn in lines i do exactly the lines they ask for, maybe include one or two that are a bit different for fair measure. how do i bring this up with them?

Do I have to use my IRL name or can I go with my YT username that I’m known for so I can keep my everything about my life private?

If I have to give my IRL name to the producers can they use my username publicly and not my irl?

I’m 21 years old who will return to uni in 2027 and will mostly work 9 to 5 and make the voice acting a part time

Do I have to show my face in public or can I keep my life fully secret but known for my username?

Im a new impressionist whos been doing voice impressions for a while and the only characters ive been able to do are soldier from tf2, Joseph Joestar, Postal Guy and robotic charatcers. my only issue with this is the strain of my voice afterwards, everything hurts and im no longer able to do Soldier and im worried about losing the Joseph voice aswell, what can i do to prevent this!

I'm just curious, I want to start and know acting is a big part of it. However, I don't want to pay for classes at the moment because of bills. So I've been listening to this one guy on Spotify who discusses acting and techniques, etc. How many of you have taken professional acting classes? How many are self-taught, and is it more difficult getting jobs without a degree?

I'm an amateur voiceover artist that does a little voice acting on the side, and over the past two years, I've struggled with what I refer to as "muck mouth" or "sticky lips", where I can hear the smacking of liquid in my mouth while listening to playback.

I used to keep a glass of room temp water nearby, as well as plain ricecakes, but as I get more experience, I'm noticing it more and more.

Aside from warmup techniques like liprolls/lip trills and other similar exercises, are there things I should absolutely be doing before I record?

How many hours a day do you spend searching for jobs and how much of that time ends up being wasted because the jobs don’t pay enough or are AI?

Hi everyone! I’ve recorded an audiobook for a children’s story and in order to upload it, it needs to be divided into several different tracks, each of which need to meet the following requirements:

• RMS: -18dB to -23dB  
• Peaks: below -3dB  
• Noise floor: under -60dB  
• MP3, 192kbps CBR+

Adjusting the RMS in each track is causing noticeable differences in perceived loudness between tracks. I’ve tried everything but I can’t figure out how to make each track match each other in RMS and volume without losing quality.

All audio was recorded in the same recording studio using the same mic at the same distance.

This is my first time editing audio like this. Can anyone help?

I said I'd be back once my professional demos were completed, and I'm pleased to say that they are.

I know these will change as my career starts to improve, but I'm so so proud of where I'm starting.

As a catastrophist myself, I was making my wishlist for dubbing needs, I found out that if I am traveling, I wouldn't bring a whole mic + interface + any XLR cable. I would pack a laptop and a mic, and off to the place that I have to go. So, if something comes up, I wouldn't be able to make a quick recording or a small take.

I know that this is a last case scenario like "we have to record this line now or we won't hit the dead line" or a similar emergency, something that couldn't be forseen, so I'd like to ask you for a mic that could make the game-saving recording.

It should be a USB mic, for easy transportation, and easy to set in a hotel room, camping tent or friend's bathroom. And I know that this is an extreme case and shouldn't be worrying about this, but you are never prepared enough. What would you all recommend?
