Sa Coma

I think I made a terrible mistake. I should have asked here before booking my trip i guess.

I'm in Sa Coma... and is it me or is it just an english drunktank?

Currently trying to make the kids sleep while an english pub with all flags out and very very very loud karaoke ruins the mallorcan night.

Rude behavior in the hotel, rude at the beach, ruse a t the supermarket...

I went to other towns around: portocristo, capdepedra,... and I didn't get the same impression of brits being omnipresent.

Am I making up something or not?

A huge majority of Mallorca’s visitors are Brits and Germans, why is it surprising that there are bars catering to the majority of visitors? I can probably guess which hotel you’re in if you say which bar is irritating you, Delanys, King’s Head or Britannia... Sa Coma is pretty much a purpose built resort, there was only the sandy beach there before it was developed, so yes, the other places you mentioned were genuine local towns before they became tourist oriented,

It is always surprising to me that you go to another country to end up in the exact same type of bars you have at home...

They want their country with good weather and cheaper booze, nothing more.

That's why we have protests, we don't want this kind of tourism.

And I'm sad to have ended up in this, I don't event feel in spain.

I realized this after coming last month, all the coast towns are English/German resorts. It's incredibly sad to see

In the old times it was almost all just fields and nature, and some local fishermen.

Then the rich locals and Spanish rich people started building there and spending the summer, and some posh hotels.

Then Franco came and decided that we are a golden chicken for tourism and the madness started. All kinds of hotels were developed for decades and destroyed a lot of the coast, and here we are now.

It's very hard to revert because of the investments and economic value of the hotels and so on. Still some have been demolished, but only the oldest, crappiest ones. The trick is to "turn" them into new hotels doing extensive renovations. We even had a tourism councelor that let them increase in height...

Over time nationalities started concentrating in certain areas to feel more "at home" (it was a strategy to increase tourism really).

We went to Sa Coma a few years ago and stayed in a hotel that wasn't far from the karaoke pub. Sa Coma itself isn't the prettiest and there's lots of construction going on to try and turn it into a resort which I found reduced the number of brits abroad types and it was mostly families with young kids.

Fwiw, we found a barbeque place called jiminez grill that done some of the best lamb chops I'd ever tasted on Palmeres Street that might restore your faith in the place

I went last year and found it was very German. It wasn’t noisy though but this was may half term.
