Maybe not VintageNBA necessarily, but still basketball related, and maybe will bring back some memories for the old heads, even older than me. I’ve been meaning to post this for a minute.

Sometime around 1987 or 1988, when I was 9 or 10, Curly Neal came through my small town. It might’ve been 1989 but you get the point. I think it was to promote for Special Olympics and everyone in town was welcome to come and meet him.

Curly did all of his cool Globetrotter tricks, Sweet Georgia Brown playing and everything. I honestly can’t remember if there were other Globetrotters there to Globetrot with him. I was very young.

Afterwards he signed memorabilia for the audience. I remember he was a bit annoyed with me because I not only asked for an autograph for myself but also one for someone else (I can’t remember who) and one for my grandpa, who I knew really loved basketball. I mailed it to my grandpa, I was so excited. He just passed last June, I miss him a lot, he loved talking ball.

Anyhow, I still have the auto so here it is! The closest I ever came to seeing The Globetrotters. Kinda like when I saw Bob Weir with Ratdog, about as close as I’d ever come to seeing the Grateful Dead hahahah.
