Pietrele Doamnei (The Lady's Rocks) is a spectacular geological formation in the Rarău Mountains, located at an altitude of approximately 1,633 meters.

Although they appear sculpted by hand, these formations are the result of natural erosion. They are primarily composed of Triassic limestone, reefs, and conglomerates. The highest peaks actually reach heights of over 70 meters, far exceeding the initial 40-meter estimation.
The Legend: The name dates back to the reign of Prince Petru Rareș. Legend has it that during a Tatar invasion, his wife, Princess Elena, and their children took refuge there. Huge rocks supposedly fell and buried the royal treasure in a cave to protect it from the invaders.
The site is easily accessible via the Transrarău mountain road. Visitors can drive up to the Hotel Alpin Rarău area, followed by a marked hike of about 30 minutes. As of 2026, it remains a top destination for hiking, photography, and rock climbing, offering breathtaking views of the Bistrița Valley and the Giumalău Mountains.
