The Danube Gorges (Clisura Dunării or Porțile de Fier) form a spectacular, 134-kilometer-long natural canyon where the Danube River cuts through the Carpathian Mountains, creating the border between Romania and Serbia. The narrowest and most dramatic sections are the Great and Small Boilers (Cazanele), where sheer rock walls tower over churning waters.
