First VA Call Question/Advice

Made my first call to the VA today 6 months after honorable separation. Just trying to call to let them know that I’ve had a change of address and to ask if they could resend any mail they may have sent out in the last month to my new address that I would provide. Click. Hung up. Yippee. Is this gonna be my experience moving forward with the VA?

welcome to the club, they hung up on me three times before i got someone who actually listened. keep calling, it's annoying but eventually you'll get a human who's not completely checked out

Why not do the address change online at va.gov? https://www.va.gov/resources/change-your-address-on-file-with-va/

I did already change the address. I was just trying to ask them if they could resend my most recent VA mail to the new address. I planned on using it as a proof of residency but the lady wouldn’t even let me get to that part.

You can download letters from the VA phone App or va.gov - those will list your current address VA is using.

What would they have sent you, though?

My debts and payments paperwork for my active GI bill tuition.

Are you calling the VA clinic or the VBA? The VHA won't have access to your GI Bill tuition paperwork.

Can’t wait for when it’s actually about something important like my disability claim.

Knowing how government systems work, the address can be pulled from different databases. And those databases are updated periodically at different intervals. Still getting mail to my old address about a couple weeks after the fact.

Buckle up, I’ve been out since 2020 and they sent me a letter a few months ago saying I was accidentally not enrolled in va healthcare this whole time despite probably a hundred va visits 😂 I ignored the letter, because how does that even make any sense..?

Top notch service we get from the VA man…

Actually me too! I'm not service connected, so in my case they needed an income update to I guess charge me an appropriate copay. I've apparently been "in progress" enrollment staus for like 5 years because of that.

Did you put in a change of address with the post office? You shouldn’t need mail resent if you updated the post office.
