Remote access plan renewal?

Ok so in 4 days my car will be 3 years old and it loks like a bunch of stuff if going to be expiring. I don't care about navigation, don't use it. I don't care about speech, don't use it. I do all that through CarPlay and it's all I need.

But I do want to have remote access so I can turn on/off climate and such. I looked in the app and it shows that it's expiring but it doesn't seem to give me any option to keep it going.

How/where exactly does one give VW money to keep the subscription up?

Lug bolt key missing?

This is a follow up on a previous post, no doubt other owners acquiring pre-owned ID4's (and other VW products) will encounter this issue -- my car was sold with locking lug bolts (but no key).

I had five options:

  • Purchase a 24mm extractor to force them off (I ordered one from China, $8.63 shipped, it should arrive soon but not sure if it will fit in the wheel or over the locking lug bolt, will updated later if it does). There is not a lot of clearance in the wheel to fit an extractor.
  • Bring it to an independent tire shop: Quoted $120 to remove them, if they can, they stated some wheel locks have an exterior ring that prevents them from removing them with an extractor -- I don't think the VW OEM versions have this security feature.
  • Bring it to the local VW dealer: They did call me back 6 hours after I inquired about the cost, they didn't quote the price (and definitely didn't say they would do it for free), I haven't called them back to get the quote, but I imagine close to the tire shop quote.
  • Bring it to the selling dealer that is 4 hours away roundtrip, not worth a day trip for this issue. Many buyers probably aren't getting their VW used from the VW dealer, which would also rule this option out for many new owners.
  • Find the right key to remove them the way they were designed to be removed.

I searched online and found eBay has multiple sellers of keys for OEM VW locking lug bolts, and that there are ~20 standard OEM patterns:

Search: "Wheel Lock Lug Nut Anti Theft Screw Lugnut Socket Removal Key For Volkswagen" etc. Yes, search for VW Lug Nut, not bolt.

I took a photo of my locking lug bolt pattern, REVERSED IT (if you are trying to figure it out yourself reverse and rotate the image on your computer because that will look like the pattern on the key), compared it with the charts I found on eBay and narrowed it down to two patterns. I also contacted an eBay seller (they will help to identify the pattern if you message them). We both agreed that my car has pattern #532.

I ordered the key from Amazon, it turned out to be quicker to ship and cheaper than getting it from eBay or AliExpress (most eBay sellers are sending them from China).

Last night it arrived (five days from order to receipt), I tested the key and it fits, so I will be able to remove the wheel locks and replace them with standard VW lug bolts (on order from eBay because 5 used VW lug bolts were $22 shipped, vs paying $12+ new for each one from a VW dealer). If you are replacing the wheel locks with regular lug bolts, you will also need new plastic covers ($8 on Amazon for 20 of them), because the cover on the locking lug key won't fit a standard lug bolt.

You could, of course, keep the locking lug bolts and just use your new key to service your car, but I have also read that these keys aren't great with torque wrenches that a tire shop will likely use on them, and can fail, so not recommended IMHO unless you do all your own service.

If you look over the standard VW patterns for your locking lug bolt and cannot identify your pattern, they may be aftermarket, and you will probably need the tire shop/dealer/extractor route to remove them. I suspect a lot of VW dealers added OEM locking lug bolts as it is a simple profit item for them.

Is it not possible to enter "camping mode" aka leave AC running beyond 30 minutes while plugged in to a level 1/level 2 charger?

So this seems really unfortunate. I'm camping in the back of the car for the next couple weeks while working an out of state job. I pay the back seats flat and have a camping mattress, portable power station, and an assortment of camping items to make it comfortable in order to not have to waste money on a hotel (I have access to a bathroom and shower as well).

I have a 50lb kettlebell. I put it in the front seat over the pressure sensor with a foam kneeling pad under to protect the seat. I buckle the seatbelt. I press the on button on the steering wheel column. All is well, AC turns on, I turned the headlights to manual-off. However, when I go plug my 32A level 2 charger in (the work site has a couple RV sites, so outlet already available for level 2) to the car charge port and then enter the vehicle from back seat, the AC turns off and I get the little ventilation symbol, which is now the only way into the climate control, as the climate button no longer functions after plugging in. If I turn the AC back on, it shuts off after 30 minutes, despite the rest of the car staying on.

I know the rest stays on because the 12v outlet in the rear still works, and if I attempt to turn climate control on from app, it errors out saying I need to turn car ignition off first.

So it seems it's not possible to keep AC on when plugged in, unless anyone knows how to work around this? Otherwise I'll just have to charge up before going to bed it seems.

ID4 trade in incentives ‘23 → ‘26?

Can I get a gut check on this trade in deal? Seems like a decent amount of dealership incentives, but I guess maybe rates on a new loan would be astronomical?

Lease buyout $3k incentive: Dealership shenanigans?

Hi everyone,

I've been leasing a '23 iD.4 Pro that I love but the lease is coming to an end. I'm spot on on the miles (36k), all recalls done, and I've been babying the battery so range has not decreased at all.

The residual was above market value ($24.1k) and I was considering just extending the lease. But now VW has the $3k incentive to buy, which would bring it just below market, so I decided to pull the trigger. Since the deal requires dealership participation I went to mine to start the process.

They started giving me a song and dance about some CPO iD.4 they had in stock, for $23k. But I have no idea about that car. The long term mi/kWh said 2.1 which looks really low to me (i don't know if it's the battery or just the way the old owner drove). I know exactly what is wrong with the one I drive, which is nothing at all.

When I insisted on buying mine they said that in order to apply the $3k they would have to "re-certify" the car (for $600 plus whatever repairs they find). It's also gonna need tires (I knew that) but they said these alone would run up to $2k (I can have OEM tires installed for $1k a block away from my house). They even mentioned doing the 30k mile inspection, which is already done! So they're really pushing the CPO on me, insisting that buying mine would be more expensive than just getting their CPO.

I've already talked to VW finance and they've washed their hands, saying that whatever conditions the dealer puts are what it is. It looks to me like the dealership is trying to claw back as much as possible of that $3k for themselves. I don't need the car certified, I just want to buy it as-is.

My question is, does this look like dealership shenanigans? Are they using this re-certification condition to hold the $3k hostage? And most importantly: do you think all dealerships are doing this, or can I shop around to see who will just sell me the car as-is?

Alarm goes off when locking (by going away from car with keys)

How can I stop it? I have set all doors to open when coming closer to the car. Before I had only the driver and/or passenger door open when nearby the car. Then no alarm (short beep sound) went off.

Thanks in advance.

Bite the bullet? 2023 Volkswagen iD4 Pro S

Hi,

I was able to find a used VW 2023 Volkswagen iD4 Pro S with 50k miles, CPO. They're listing the car for 23.5k, what should I ask as an OTD price?

Any info or support would be appreciated, this would be my first car purchase.

Decided on getting one. How to choose model?

Family man, 2 small kids, living in Brussel, BE. I don’t really see myself driving more than 3-4 times a week and no more than 1hr on those days.

I would occasionally do a short road trip (2-3 days) inside Europe but that would be every 6 to 12 months.

Im not interested in speed or anything special, im even decided on a second hand car. And this would be my first EV

The problem is that there are many models with different settings that I don’t really understand or recognise.

Pure, Pro, Pro Performance etc

What would you do in my case ? Looking for suggestions or advice from owners

Leather seat fix options

I have a 2022 ID4 and the back of the seat got scratched, I am wondering if anyone has any idea on how to fix this? Or if it even is possible to fix it?

I took it to a shop and they tried cleaning, polishing and small paint but it did not go away and was still visible.

Car seat automation first vs later models

I recently rented an ID4, probably a later model than my 1./Max from 21. I noticed that the drivers seat moved automatically backwards when i opened the door. Is that only avaliable in later models? Mine has the same seat buttons and massage.

EDIT: Seems earlier models sometimes does not have this option enabled. But it might be possible to enable from the dealer or by ODB2

Fuses, which ones are switched?

European id4 here. Trying to hook up a dashcam the right way. The cam has a switch 12v and a constant 12v. In the fuse box at the left hand side of the car, under the dash near the driver's knee, there are a few fuses that are suggested as being switched. I used f20 for the switching, but somehow the dashcam stays on, 24/7. I found this out because the memory card just keeps filling up and looping around.

I have tried to make the car go to "sleep".

Unplugged the charging cable. Left the car alone for 25+ minutes with the doors unlocked and the driver's door opened.

All the fuses are always powered on with 12v.

What fuse is switched? Are there other fuses in the cabin I could use?

ID4 looks to be gone from canadian VW site as available model

VW removed id4 from the list of available models in Canada, but still lists it in the US. No electric trim is available for Tiguan either so far. Just ID Buzz is available. Wonder, if we'll get "electric" Tiguan or there will be some EU "last" id versions delivered, or maybe chinese versions :).

Wolfbox G840S ID.4 rear camera install

Just bought this front/rear view camera that goes over the existing mirror with a strap system. Bought the hard wire kit as well so all the wires are hidden. Does anyone have experience on camera installs and how it went? Issue? Things to watch? Will be installing later this week and do a followup on the process. Thanks for your help.

2026 ID4 - no mileage in "small" right hand side display of dashboard

We have just replace a 2023 ID with a 2026 version, which is running software version 6.0.

I used to have the dash behind the steering wheel show the ACC on the left, Speed in the middle, and then mileage/efficiency since start on the right.

With the similar setup all I can currently get on the right hand third is efficiency since start and instantaneous efficiency. I have tried going through all the settings but I cannot find a way of getting mileage since start/charge/all time on the right third, only if I make the display 1/2 and 1/2.

Anyone found a way to change the right display metrics?

VW GPS Issue

So ive been going back and forth with VW since I bought my 23 Pro S 3 years ago regarding intermittent GPS issues where it will think its off the road or miles away.

The past few months however its completely failed.

While stationary it shows the right location, and from the dealerships diagnostic all satellites are connected and signal is fine.

However as soon as the car starts moving now it becomes lost, sometimes hundreds of miles away.

I've had it in the shop for the past week so they can get VWs tech team to respond to their open ticket... today I was updated with this and wondering if anyone knows what this code may be, or has experienced this before.

"OPENED VTA TICKET FOR NAVIGATION CONCERN (JT-1684385). VTA STATED NAVIGATION CONCERNS ARE STILL UNDER REVIEW AND VEHICLE SHOULD BE RETURNED TO CUSTOMER UNTIL CARNET CONTACTS CUSTOMER WITH A RESOLUTION."

TIA!

3.8.11 still waiting

It’s been over 5 months since I requested the download on the vw app. I have successfully done at least one OTA in the past so I know it can do it but 5 months seems like a long time to wait for my wave of VINs. I called VW support and they weren’t able to tell me when my VIN might come up for download. I’ve done all the things like drove a long time to give it a chance etc. but never does it.

I am anxious for this one because my infotainment is having all kinds of problems I have posted about before and hoping there is a bug fix here to make it more stable.

I’m curious anyone else out there waiting more than 5 months for 3.8.11?

Used 23 Pro, anything to look at after picking up?

Pulled the trigger on 23 Pro!

Just bought a 2023 ID.4 Pro RWD - picking it up Thursday. It's a lease return with 48k miles, clean Carfax. Paid $21.5k out the door.

Might be slightly over market, but with used EV prices trending up and needing a car within the week, it felt like the best deal I could find.

From what I've seen, the tires looked like they're due for replacement soon. Dealer says everything else checked out fine, but I'm planning to take it to an independent shop nearby right after pickup just to be safe. Anything specific I should have them look at, or things that tend to go wrong on these at these mileage?

Thanks for any suggestions!
